  •  I treat this comment from Cliff as... (none / 0)

a way to excuse some of the shenanigans that will ultimately exist despite the reworked netcode.  When your game doesn't have a peer-to-peer setup or dedicated servers, it's always going to be prone to latentcy.  Cliff is essentially "warning" us that there will be situations when people are going to consider throwing their controllers down in frustration and yell out an expletive or two.  Oh, but remember when Cliff said that there would be some randomness in Gears 2?  You remember, right?  This is supposed to be Epic's "don't hold us completely accountable" card.  To go out on a limb and declare that a game will be 100% perfect is irresponsible and you'll only be setting yourselves up for outcry from your consumers.

Let's not fool ourselves, many of us have stuck with Gears 1 being the broke-ass game that it is because we simply love its rich universe and gameplay.  Shenanigans will still exist.  There's no doubt about it.  Let's not let the flaws of the game ruin our experience, but rather our love for it to bring us the enjoyment. laughter, camaraderie, and good times.  It's always easier to be negative than positive.  This community has always prided itself on being quick to implement "House Rules" to mitigate bugs or unbalanced play.  Gears 2 will not be the "be all and end all" of games.  As far as I'm concerned, I'm sticking by Gears 2 even if it's only a 30% reduction in host advantage.  Gears is MY Star Wars!  Epic seems like they've truly worked hard at focusing on the MP experience.  I'm a Gears fanatic through and through.  As consumers, we should demand that the game functions as well as it can possibly be.  However, nothing created by mortal man is absolutely perfect.  Plain and simple.  That's why it's ultimately left to our community to come to terms with game issues and bring about a solution as a whole.

If it is how Zos described it as rolling a 20 on a 20-sided die, then that's more acceptable imo.  Is it a good excuse for losing a battle that you should have won?  We'll find out in 27 days.

I agree with your "Gears is MY Star Wars" sentiment. Although really, Star Wars is still my Star Wars...;)

My the idea remains that we all have a certain passion for this game. I'm less forgiving in terms of defending the issues Gears has online but play a game of Gears with me and you won't hear too much complaining. I've accepted it and while I may trash the game on the boards, I'll still play it on Live.
