I sit somewhere between you papi in the "It's really really good, but what's the big deal" and the rest of the site ready to buy GTA 4 swim-wear.

    ;)

I've played the game close to 23 hours and I really love it. However I share some criticisms that you have Tyler.

    Here are some of mine:

-Controls. It takes several hours to get use to the driving controls, and I'm STILL trying to get the normal user controls and 'taking cover' controls down. Quite frankly I think the controls suck. (Again I'm 23 hours in so there's no more room to get use to it)

-Strip Clubs and Prostitutes. Really? Do we really need this in our games. They don't play any major role in the game and do wonders for those wanting to criticize gaming. As Jeff Greene said on the 1UP Show these are pointless features in GTA4. IMO it is stupid to put them in.

-Then there are about a thousands nuances...
-Walking out of a building and it looking like its night, then suddenly the lighting corrects itself and it's day.
-Flying past a cop smashing every car other than him and him just sitting there. (As well as accidentally barely touching him and having him freak)
-Friendly AI. On a particular mission I'm running from dozens of cop cars and my AI buddies aren't even shooting out of the window even though I'm getting pummeled. WTF?

So there are some of my complaints about the game. However as I said I've played almost 23 hours so I'm not saying it's bad...just flawed.

    Positives:

+Dialogue:  Niko is hilarious as is his interactions with other characters.
+Integration: From awesome Radio to cool internet features this game criss crosses features in truly awesome ways.
+Physics. Crashing through the city and police chases are freakin' epic.
+Size. Just walking around the city is both fun and funny making you feel like you are actually in "Liberty City".

So there's my 2 cents...The game is amazing and epic but because of that, the flaws shine like diamonds. Once more I've played almost a day's worth so I love the game, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let it's flaws pass.

    •  Are you really (none / 0)

that far in the game? I thought you only played a little bit so far... Anyway, wait until you get a gun papi. There is one major cut scene towards the beginning of the game that really grabs your sack and makes you call Niko a badass. He is hands down my favorite video game character of all time now.
Also SweetTea, you have to take the flaws with a grain of salt. The game is not going to be perfect due simply to its sheer size. You really have to look at this game in the ways that it pushes the boundaries of gaming. I have never felt this much emotion in a game. When I make certain choices in story mode, I really do feel bad. Before passing judgment, I really think you guys should wait until you've gotten at least a third of the way through the campaign. I guarantee you that your perspective will change.
      •  I'm really not sure how far I am exactly.... (none / 0)

It says 36% game progress but I'm not sure if that is the story or just everything in general. That said I'm really far in the story and you are definitely right.
The story in this game really grabs you and I'm hoping papi will be pulled into that despite the crappy controls.

        And like I said...23 hours doesn't lie ;)

        •  As for taknig the flaws with a grain of salt (none / 0)

because of the sheer size of the game I have a slightly different view of it...I'd rather they take out an island and fix the controls, AI, etc then go for the hugeness. Just my opinion though
          •  That (none / 0)

is definitely understandable. I guess there comes a point where you have to decide quantity vs. quality. I think they found a pretty good mix, but I agree that the friendly AI could be a little better (then again, what friendly AI couldn't be better?).
        •  Wow, (none / 0)

I must have played ALOT then because I'm further than you :). I did play 12 hours straight last Tuesday... Also, what controls are crappy to you specifically? I have had a few problems, but nothing too bad.
          •  Just walking around....Character controls. (none / 0)

Trying to take cover and getting thrown somewhere you don't want to go, trying to climb something and having to repetedly push the button over and over, trying to walk around in general just feels distant....

Also the animation: Walking up to a door to see if you can go through it and having Niko just run into the door, Also-
Niko walking to the door of a car even though your getting shot at...I mean come on! I want Niko to recognize I'm in danger run and slide over the freakin' hood!

I actually think the controls in Assassins Creed were better....
