  •  I feel you, Suns. (none / 0)

We all know that Cliff has been a consistent presence on forums ever since the UT-days although his frequency of posts has diminished drastically since Gears was birthed.  I got the slight twinge of pain when I discovered that he had dropped this bombshell on the NeGAF forums rather than here.  It was mixed with jubilation for no instant-down on the AR snipe & after that joy dissipated a bit, I started thinking about where Cliff chose to drop this info.

Cliff is absolutely free to do whatever he wants to, regardless of the fact that Tyler is his brother.  However, we have tons of intelligent conversations and debates about all of the facets of this game that we so love.

This community isn't filled with haters like other forums out there which are huge.  I won't name them, but you guys know which ones that I'm talking about.  I'd like to think that we have some undue influence through Papi which will enhance Gears 2 for the better.

Here's a bit of a disturbing fact, Cliff didn't even drop this news on the offical Epic Gears forum which speaks volumes.

Their community forum is in such disarray that it's chock full of people slamming each other.  There's been no civility there at all & it just seems like the animals all have the keys to the zoo.

My suggestion for Dan "Shoe" Hsu as the community lead might have been wishful thinking, but there needs to be someone instantly credible to take this up.  Come on!

We're only six months away from the sequel's release, and from what we've seen so far; there's been no move to shore up this gapping hole.  Take a page from Bungie and Infinity Ward, Epic.  Community matters a great deal, in order to disseminate info, talk about the pros and cons to make the game better, and create a lasting rapport with the community.

Talk is cheap, let's see some action.  Until then, GearheadsofWar.com will be its' loudest supporter.

    •  Blank, thanks for the background (none / 0)

      and good points.

I never spent more than a couple of minutes over at the official Gears forums, and only came here after I heard about one of the interviews papi got. I really appreciated papi's interview style and his intelligent questions, and so I hung around, lurking for a couple of months.  Then, as I noticed the quality of posts and the fact that it was a small community, I decided to start posting myself.

Actually, what I am talking about doesn't even have anything to do with any personal connections to Epic.  We are not so fancy, nor are we a huge community, but there are lots of good discussions here, with regular scheduled playing of the target game. We are objectively a great community with lots going on, and connections to all sorts of people and other sites (so we can get the word around, if anyone wants the news spread).

Chris, you make a good point about being deserving and I know exactly what you are talking about. However, more than deserving, I would say worthy.  I don't feel like Epic owes me anything, nor do I owe them anything - no matter how hard they work.  So, I would word it this way.  As regards Gears of War, we are AT LEAST as worthy as any other site out there. So, why are they tossin' candy all around us, and none to us?

If I were a house builder, and I had a chance to talk about the houses I built, which would be the better venue, to invite some potential customers to a dive cafeteria in some shopping center where there is pop and gum on the floor and screaming babies in the background, OR, should I take those potential customers to one of the beautiful homes that are already built, and give them a look-see in a quiet, clean, peaceful atmosphere?  Which do you think would give me a better chance of selling the house?

      It vexes me.  I'm vexed.
