  •  Economy (none / 0)

isn't helping PC gaming either. The only downside of console gaming that I can think of is the difficulty of replacing hardware. Console gaming allows you to enjoy 3-4 years of gaming without having to upgrade and that makes buying another 400 console completely worth it.

IMO I don't think that PC Gaming will ever be dead if Blizzard keeps churning out the WOW expansion packs. That is a drug in itself.

PC gaming does not fit in with me because a majority of my friends play console games. I really like playing coop games with friends and right now PC gaming is not where I will find that.

I have to say, i am still willing to play pc games, but i have to say, the next pc i buy if i need to is not going to be to play games, i just cant keep up with replacing videocards and adding memory it just seems like they want to milk money out of you and maybe its just bc im older and wiser but why cant i play GOW and COD4 and UT3 on my PC with Dual Proc, 2GB ram, 128mb video card and its not good enough, thats where i started getting upset, it seems like they are in cahoots with the video card companies.

I dont know, maybe im not on the fence. I just cant support the cost of a video card that costs as much as a ps3 and that i can play it easily on a huge tv.

PC games are a TON cheaper then 360. Look PC is better than counsels MOST of the time. There great for really hard core people who love mods and are able to spend time learning about all the technical stuff. I love my 360 because i never have to update it or worry if i can run the games i want to play. The thing to think about is eventually all game counsel will be PC's eventually. So pc gaming is not dead but its not exactly thriving. A lot of my friends are pc gamers and they all say GTA 4 will be way  better when it comes to PC because of mods and such. I really don't know how to respond to that

Also i would love to try and be on the podcast next week

    Just to be controversial ;).
  •  I don't think it's dead (none / 0)

but the huge efforts and big budget games aren't going to be focused on the PC any more.  When traditional PC companies like Epic and Valve moves towards putting the majority of their efforts on the console versions of their products, you just know you're going to see different type of games on the PC.

Games like WoW and even other flash-based games and whatnot are the hotness on PC.

The other huge problem is piracy on the PC.  Because it's an open system, people can easily just steal the game they want, so you're not going to see sales numbers being the same on the PC side.  Piracy is a lot more difficult on the console side.

I don't think PC gaming is dead, I just think it's not going to be the major focus of a company that wants to make huge, big budget games any more.  At least anything exclusive to the PC.  Crysis is an exception and from what I read, it was a sales disappointment.

  •  i dont think its dead (none / 0)

but i think many people do because its so hard to keep up with the technology in PC gaming financially.

  •  I say nay. (none / 0)

You have to remember that with a console, you buy it soley to play games. A gaming PC on the other hand, has the capabilities to do anything that a regular PC can PLUS gaming. So in reality, the price of PC gaming really isn't that high. If you want to buy a good new computer (for work, school, etc.), you are going to have to drop a good $500. To make it a gaming PC (plus a better overall PC) all you need to do is add say $500 in upgrades. If you look at it this way, you are basically buying a new computer along with a PS3 and having it all in one place. I think I just confused myself and everyone else more than I meant to...
  •  Funny, I heard that console gaming was dying. (none / 0)

More than a few articles online have referred to some gaming execs pontificating that the console may die out in five to ten more years.  That being said, I say that I can't see consoles dying out just yet, nor can I see the PC dying out either.  Right now it is easier to see the future of computers continuing to rise and be in every facet of our lives, but it is too early to say what the next gen of consoles will look like or cotain.  We want to play games and will do it where it makes us feel like it is worth it.  What I think is possible is that there will always be some kind of game platform to be marketed, physical or software based.  It is all about capturing a market, be it on a console or PC.  PC's are widespread and range in price.  Consoles are usually lower in cost to capture an attentive (feverish) base of gamers that DEMAND they continue to have access to a stable flock of games.  There will be a game for every kind of PC, but is it the game you want to play?  Sony, Nintendo, and MS have identified our need for games and attempt to corner our market share by providing the console with the best capability to provide the best possible games.  Exclusivity.  We just saw the first war in HD between HD and Blueray.  Blueray gathered up the studios to pull the customers.  Rolling the blueray into a gaming console didn't hurt either.  From the starting block consoles have pulled the best studios to produce the exclusive games.  Sony gambled with blueray in the PS3 and may still win out on MS, but that just shows that consoles may be evolving into a more specifically tuned entertainment system.  Maybe a PC will always be a PC that we alwyas use for work, sometimes use for fun, and will take on trips (if it is portable enough).  However, consoles may still evolve into something we always go to for pure entertainment.

And that's the scoop as I see it.

gaming is not dead, and not close to being dead, people are getting this idea from the whole console crave that is going on, and its not the mods that are keeping pc games alive, its the games themselves, the pc online is the best EVER, its just that we never hear from it too much now, and well it will never die
