Our own Gears of War soundtracks

Tue Nov 28, 2006 at 11:42:25 PM EST

So the creative junkie in me is constantly looking to add creativity in whatever I do.  Playing Gears of War is obviously not left out of my ritualistic musings.  One thing I like to do is when I watch footage of something, play a game, or create a scene in my head, is to add a soundtrack to it.  I always wanted to be in the video music business 'cause I feel like I got a good connection between visuals and music.  As a creative person though I like to think I can delve into anything creative, so I pretty much end up thinking I'm a film director/video music director/writer/poet/illustrator and everything in-between :P  The plethora remixes the GoW trailer inspired is a good testament to how fun this can be.

Anyway the music video director in me thought recently about applying music to Gears of War scenarios.  I came up with a few I'd like to share, and I encourage you guys to do so as well.  The plethora of remixes the GoW trailer inspired is a good testament to how fun this can be.

--- When I'm sniping with the Longshot I can just always hear Tool - Vicarious playing in the background seamlessly.  The song's content matches this action so well.  "'Cause I need to watch things die, from a good safe distance.  Vicariously I live while the whole world dies."

You know those moments where you feel like you're unstoppable in the game?  Something clicks and you just go on a rampage with your Gnasher.  At least I do, being that the Gnasher is my weapon of choice.  You're the only one left, and your opposing team has 3 left, and you just feel it click and you just go poppin' fools left and right like a waterballoon with your Gnasher.  God I love that.  A few songs come to mind when this happens to me:
-------
The Quentin Tarantino in me hears the perpetual surfer rock: Reverend Horton Heat - Psychobilly Freakout or even the other side of the Tarantino in me hears the old Sinatra song like High Hopes.  "Next time you're found with your chin on the ground, there's a lot to be learned so look around[can you see the curbstomp reference here?].....Oops! there goes another rubber tree plant."
---
Then there are the surreal moments for me when I play the game.  This is usually in those rare times I've decided to smoke out and at times I hear the Radiohead songs like Optimistic or Knives out as I play in a haze.  "This one's optimistic" "So knives out...squash his head, put it in the pot."  Yeah kids, I have a dark side too.
---
Then of course when I play with papi blez, I can't help but think of Primus - Too Many Puppies.  The way Les Claypool says 'puppies' actually sounds likes 'papi's' and I couldn't help but think of those lyrics when I was playin with papi blez last week lol.  "Too many ppaaaappiii's, with guns in their hands.  Too many paaaapii's, from foreign lands.  Too many paaaapii's, i'm gettin' shot in the dark..."

Anyway...lol.  Now that you all see I'm a total weirdo, I encourage you to reveal your weird/geeky/creative sides in this post as well.  Thanks for your time folks.

no one thinks this topic is interesting? :(

I can dig on soundtracks while gaming.  The only thing, is your knowledge of the music is a little better than my own memory.  If you added links with a bit of the track you were thinking of, your diary would come to life.

Me, I digged the video clip on gametrailers, that showed Gears gameplay with the roadie run done to the doobie brothers.  It sounded great, but really seemed out of sink with what you expect.

I listen to a little techno/industrial from time to time, and I kind of like basement jaxx,"where's your head at!" when I'm rolling with the Sniper, any Act will do.

Then there is the bezerker, when I have to deal with her, I like to have "Atom Bomb" by fluke in my head.  She's heavy and laying it out, but I got to bring the Hammer to deal it out, kind of like an Atom Bomb.

I have to admit, I wish the descent into the underground had been longer and on a fast track elevator, then it could have been accompanied to "Highway to Hell", AC/DC, but then that would have been too obvious and metal.

I need the Gorillaz in there somewhere, but I'd like to save that for the next installement when we board a Brumaak and lay wast to the Locust to the toons of "19-2000", ya know.

In multiplayer, I'd actually like to jam out to "Weapon of Choice" by Fatboy Slim, so I'd feel a bit like the old man roll'n on the youngsters, only I get my head handed to me.

Then, if we get down to tunes, I think every character needs to have a theme song, right.  So, here are my takes, but I'll leave it open for other recommendations.  Remember these suggestions are limited by my own taste in music.

Marcus - Since "Mad World" I can't think of a theme, cause I think about what I want to play the game to with Marcus.  I'll just wait for some good suggestions....
Dom - I can't really place him.  He's got a sad undertone, but the man fights and has a sane core despite everything.  I'll go with "Six Blade Knife" Dire Straits, even though you can't play the game to it.
Gus - I love this guy, but I just kept hearing, "Love Rollercoaster" Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Cause the Train is always a smooth ride.  Bet you didn't see that one coming.
Baird - I don't know that this is considered a song, but "I'm an asshole" Dennis Leary.  I just don't like this guy, but I think I hear'm knocking and he's coming in.
Carmine - You know he was a punk, so I'll give'm "Shoot to Kill" AC/DC
Locusts - "Seizure of Power" Marylin Manson. You'd recognize it from Resident Evil, the movie.

when I think of Marcus, I think of "Hilf Mir" by Rammstein

Cole, well, he sounds like "My Toy Soldier" by fiddy cent simply because it seems that he beleives it all to be a game.

When Kim and RAAM look into each others eyes at the end of Act 1, I think of "Blind Man" by Aerosmith. Odd, eh?

Dom, well, he kind of gives me a "Soldier Side" by system of a down's feeling.

Carmine, well, I dunno. kind of like "Spanish Bombs" or "Rudie Can't Fail" by the Clash

When I roadie run, "Big Man With a Gun" by Nine Inch Nails is there.

The Locust seem like another Nine Inch song, "The Wretched".

Baird? well, he's hard. But offhand, I would probably say "The Crusher" by the Ramones.

Some other songs, just over diffrent places in the game, are "Shadow of a Man", by Oysterhead, O Fortuna, written by Carl Orff, and off the "Carmina Burana" piece, "The Boogie Monster" by Gnarls Barkley, "Straight out Of Line", by Godsmack, and "Links 234" by Rammstein

wow, I'm a real geek. By the way, no offense Boris
