So I have been playing gears online for about a week.I have been in about a dozen matches or so. And almost ever time I play I get crushed. I think once I had seven kills. So what kind of tips can you give a noob like me, so I will not embarass my self and end up being lancer fodder. Also thanks again to Master Pre for the invite last night. Your friends where probably like dont invite that dude again

  •  I'm sort of a noob myself, (none / 0)

usually I let the other people run for the power weapons; you need to find a good spot and chill with the lancer. When you see the other team, fire a few bursts just to let them see you. They'll probably charge up to some cover (I'm going on the assumption that this is a player match) and get behind some more cover. If they have line of sight to each other then you should probably call in the rest of your team; if they're isolated then I would flank to the right (personal choice, sometimes it's better from the left) and chainsaw. I'm not a huge fan of the shotgun (no blade, slow ROF). Should they open fire on you and you've flanked well, they're probably kind of shocked. If you don't have an oppurtunity to saw them, then just pop a few rounds into them. They'll go down pretty reliably.

  •  If it bleeds we can kill it! (none / 0)

I took a different tactic, I dont know if you have completed the game itself or not, i had before going online, it taught me two things, AI can be great but it's not real, and if you hang back long enough you will be the only one left with a lot of Opponents.

Online everything seemed to move just too damn quickly at first, but it soon clicks in! Lets look at a real time boot camp environment:

    Know your Enemy
    Know your area of engagement
    know your Weaknesses
    Know your Strengths

Having completed the game i knew a few things, I cannot get along with a shotgun, i struggle hitting moving targets with a sniper rifle, I am great at flanking and outsmarting, I can hit active reload on my lancer 99% of the time.

My enemy online will think the same way I do, so my mistakes would be made by other players, and if i see them make a mistake i need to make sure i remember not to do the same thing.

Start by playing the same map over and over until you know every inch of it. Then when you have noobs or varying players come in you have a huge advantage.

Working in team is great, but try to find online matches where there are no glory seekers, sorry to say it mate but usually your are on your own

Dont get angry get even!! and by the way i usually am in first or second place on the majority of ranked matches i now play, 95% of all my kills will be by the SAW!! I know my strenghts and i play to them.

I could run into all the usual tips about dodge rolling with the shotgun, but you can find that in loads of different online guides, and to be honest they just produce average players with a standard level of moves, do the unexpected and they dont have a clue.

I played through the game again the other day, all of a sudden it was a lot easier than i remembered!!.

  •  yes (none / 0)

I have completed the game on casual and half way threw the game on hardcore. It seems like I am shooting people and nothing happens and then, bam one shot from them and I am history. Keep them coming guys....
  •  It's all about the weapon! (none / 0)

Every weapon in this game holds value, some may not be as apparent as others, but they still bring something to the plate.

The key is to patiently use each weapon in whatever manner you are proficient at.  For instance, I will begin almost every map in the game using my pistol.  It has great range, and the melee on it is incredible.

If the combat is close quartered I'll take out my shotgun and start banging away.

Some of the other specialty weapons I will use if my teammates are planning on setting themselves up strategically throughout the board.  For instance, I will grab the longshot on Fuel Depot to help cover my teammates that are going in with the shotgun.

The other key aspect to multiplayer is to NEVER stop moving when you are in intense combat.  Never give your opponent a completely clean shot.  Jump, juke, dive and strafe your way around him, constantly trying to line up the killing shot.

  •  Yep (none / 0)

I think you guys got it about covered, I especially like the idea of playing one map over and over again, until you know it like Act 1.
Another awesome point is weapon skills.  Find out what piece fits your puzzle (so to speak) and hone it.  Alot of people prefer the shotie, and use it all the time, and now it's a one shot kill wonder.  I recently discovered how versitile the Lancer can really be in MP.

Good luck dude we'll see you again next Friday!!

    •  One more thing!! (none / 0)

This took me forever to realize, whatever you do: DO NOT try to use your chainsaw all the time, use it when your are 100% sure they cannot see you.  Be from directly behind or mostly behind.  And it's safe if there is only 1 enemy in the area and he is in the middle of curbstomping or chainsawing a teammate.

        Chainsaw=addicting.
      Resist the urge.

Oh yeah and don't do what someone does to me once a week.  Grenade tagging with smoke......I can still see just fine......as long as I'm running.

  •  what to do when by yourself (none / 0)

well when i'm the only 1 left say against 4 people, i would try and "lure" one by himself to me then massacre him :P, after that if he has the longshot i would use it to pick the rest of, oh and when using the longshot always move after 1 shot, (this reduces the risk of being found alot easier just be careful), or there's the other way grenade tagging, i like this way but it don't always work, i would follow 1 guy tag him turn around and roadie run the opposite way then same again to the next guy, sometimes if your lucky you may kill all 4 with 1 grenade (that's funny when it happens) hope it helps :)
  •  Game types (none / 0)

Another tip is on certain types of game type you have the ability to pump A and get back up, the tip is even if they are standing over you or preparing something nasty, hold a direcion away from them. If you manage to get back up you instantly roll out of harms way. My funniest use of this was playing a ranked match, first to 7 rounds, both teams on 6, it was me against three and I got downed, while they were pretending to gang bang me i got up rolled and started firing wildly with the shotgun, they ran for cover, 2 made it!. Flushed them out with a frag and dropped both with an active reload on my lancer, a couple of shotty blasts, Job Done. Lucky yes! but if you dont try youll never know.
