Hey zoso or to anyone who may know, i have a question for ya. i will be getting a new pc for christmas this year. I will also be putting a new graphics card in the pc as well. I was wondering if you guys would reccomend Vista or XP in terms of games.

somebody started a computer diary, i have a question to those who know computer better, im thinking of getting RE4 for the pc, and i have a
pentium(r) 4 CPU 2.80GHz 2.83 GHz, 512 MB of RAM with a Geforce Fx 5500 graphics card
and these are RE4's requirements
1 GHz Pentium® III or AMD Athlon" (or better)
RAM: 256 MB
Video Card: 128 MB DirectX® 9.0c-compliant AGP or PCI Express graphics card (256 or higher for High Graphics Detail support) (see supported list*)
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compliant (or better)
would i be able to run it at its medium or high settings?

  BUT USE THE 360 CONTROLLER.
  The game is uncontrollable with mouse and keyboard... You have to aim with keyboard.
  I will give you a link to the mod which adds 360 keys to the game (the game shows correct 360 buttons) and support for the controller.
  Wireless receiver is cheap too!

Go with XP.
I use vista, and XP gives you better preformance. Also, games like Crysis that only promote DX10 in Vista are lies. You can crack it and run it dx10 in xp... even on a solid dx9 card setup.
You can always upgrade to Vista.

  thats what i was gonna do.
  One other thing, my computer specs are a 2.3 gghz processor, 2 gigs of ram, and a 300W power supply. Any specific graphics card you would suggest in the 100-200 dollar price range?

      but i have heard sketchy things about the 8600. In terms of working well with a lot of games. But the 8600 has better HD movie playback and media functionality than the card i listed before.

        run bad though? A common complaint i hear is that slightly older games run pretty sketchy on 8600. Proper drivers might have fixed this by now though

    A great GPU for dx9... probably the best. Will run games like Bioshock on very high settings. (your CPU will be what holds you back if anything).
    VERY good price on the card though. What i would do for that price range easily.

ill keep both in mind for now. first i gotta get my pc (ordering tomorrow) and then i will get the graphics card. thanks for the help finding the other card and the advice.

spend the extra cash and get the 8800GT. I have it and it's an absolute beast. It compares to the 8800GTX in almost every instance and is just slightly less powerful. For the money, it's the way to go:

on the card that you suggested what power supply does it need? Will it run on my system? Also, it only has directx9 dont you need 10 to play most games now like LoTR: BFME2? Thats the game i want to play on my new pc anyway, so do you think that card will run it?

  I suggested was fully dx10. You can still run pretty much any game out there right now (including Crysis) in dx9 with great performance, it just won't be quite as pretty.
