Papi Blez: I've got a question for you and the other Gearheads

Tue Feb 06, 2007 at 03:19:06 PM EST

In light of the recent talks of changing how we approach the organizing of Friday Night Frag Fest, I would like to ask you some design questions.

  1. What is the practicality of adding another section to the website solely dedicated to the coordination of games?

  2.  If an addition is possible, what kind of mechanics could you add?  (ie.  Random team generator, Captain and Co Captain responsibilities, a ranking system, etc)

  3.  Would a tournament style fragest be possible?  Just to give you an idea, once per month we hold a tourney that would declare a Player/Team "King of the FragFest!".

And now for questions on a different note.

     4.  It would be nice if we could possibly personalize our profiles, ie. the addition of avatars, and a more streamlined messaging system between other users.

This is just my attempt at continuing the discussions, I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel or "dip in on your Kool-Aid".  I like this website and the community aspect of it, and I feel like if improvements are made, it would really help a lot of the players get to know eachother.  There is a large portion of us, myself included that have not played with what I would consider the your crew, but would like to contribute and help the site and the overall cause of having a good time.

  •  Honestly (none / 0)

I'd probably have to raise some money in order to be able to implement some system of organizing games.  Basically a coworker helped me by putting this site up on his own time, but I'd feel awkward going back to him and asking for more tech help without at least some payment for it, even if it's only a couple hundred bucks.
    •  I completely understand (none / 0)

I was really just trying to fully appreciate the situation.  I didn't know any of the background for the site, so this was just my attempt to try and figure things out.

What do you think about turning a profit off of the potential T-Shirt sales into further development?  I personally would have no qualms with that approach whatsoever.

  •  What about adding sponsors? (none / 0)

Have you considered adding a "sponsor" tier to the website?

I'm sure you've seen countless sites do the same thing.  Would this be an option that we could put to vote to see who'd be interested and what kind of financial commitment would be involved.

    •  That'd be freaking' awesome... (none / 0)

I think a Gearheads of War poster would freaking rock.  I would definately be interested.

Like I said before, it's nice to see some professionals out there.

Papi, what do you think about posters????

  •  hmm just a suggestion... (none / 0)

This has nothing to do with a way to make money, but an alternative to upgrading the site.

I don't know if anyones familiar with www.Gamebattles.com, you can pretty much sign your clan up on there (from what I know, I haven't used it yet. If someone has please poke a hole in my idea)

I don't know if you can make a private league on there for just Gearheads but, if you're down for taking on other clans that website seems to be the way to go.

P.S. I haven't used this website, but heard some people on RB6:Vegas mention it. I decided to look it up and it looks like a pretty fleshed out league for pretty much any game I can think of.

This will bring you right to the Gears of War league page

  •  There aren't many cool Gears shirts out there..... (none / 0)

I think you could make more money on the t-shirts. This depends on who your audience is; because if you made one specific GearHeads shirt and then one just involving Gears (both with the url to the site, of course) you can potentially sell these to anyone who wants to buy them...including the 5th Quarter. We're holding a huge Gears of War tournament and if I get all the pieces in place I could buy 5 or 6 for the 5th Quarter alone. Your profits obviously depend on the cost to make the shirt, but, either way-there's potential to make some money.
