What is your favorite weapon?

Wed Feb 07, 2007 at 02:01:31 PM EST

With Papi Blez's latest post, an interview with his brother has led to some discussion over weapons and their current balancing.

With the grenade issue fixed, I think most agree that the weapons are now well balanced, each with it's advantages and disadvantages.

Now onto the point of this diary post, here is the question(s) I pose:

What is your favorite weapon to use and why?

Is your favorite weapon to use also your most effective?

  •  Pistol (none / 0)

My favorite weapon is the pistol.

It is also my most effective weapon, with my frag grenade lobbing probably taking a close second.

when I am playing online I am getting a feel for the shotgun. now remember I am not the greatest player in the world. But I was trying the lancer and it just seem like I could not kill anybody with it. When I am playing through the campaign I like the sniper rifle. I am starting to play around with the Torgue bow but will see how that goes when I play with people who can shot back.
    •  The boomshot (none / 0)

is definitely my favorite weapon. It's hard to get used to, but once you get a few triple kills with it, you'll be hooked. And as far as im concered, any weapon that i have killed a team of four people with in one shot is definitely my best weapon as well. I'm starting to like the torque bow more and more, but the fact that sometimes you stick people and not kill them, always brings me back to boomshot. If you hit someone (not in the feet), they are dead. No questions about it.
  •  Torque Bow (none / 0)

Even though I LOVE the shotgun, I like the T-Bow the most. Explosive arrows FTW!
  •  Definitely the Lancer (none / 0)

But I also love the Longshot and the Boomshot.  I like the torque bow, but I always seem to get killed when trying to use it.  I wish the torque bow had a melee where if someone was right on top of you you could basically jam an arrow into their chest and roll away while they blow to pieces.  If that was the case, the torque bow would automatically be my fave.

I'm best with the Lancer though.  The shotgun is waaaaaaay too inconsistent when I try to use it and my opponent almost always blows me to jibs before I can get them so it's probably my least favorite.  I like Hammer of Dawn, but that makes you too vulnerable to snipers, especially in Fuel Depot.  Not as much in Rooftops, but you're vulnerable to the torque bow instead there.

As you can tell, I've given this a lot of thought ;-)

  •  Lancer (none / 0)

By far my favorite, When I first started the shotgun would have been my top pick, but as my targeting gets better I slowly started using the Lancer , with the rounds concentrated on the opponent I have dragged them down to there knees right as they were running towards me with their shotty blasting away. And then a nice chainsaw finish. (love it!) The pistol is a sweet one as well, and I like to hide with the torque bow.
  •  If there were in game stats (none / 0)

The truth be told, most kills are going to be done with the shotty.  I'm surprised more of you didn't go with shotty.

  •  whenever I try to (none / 0)

use a torque bow I get blasted. Whenever I see someone start it up I know all I have to do is stay behind cover for the next 8 or so seconds and he'll launch it anyway. And that happens to me too. So I got nothing on you t-bow people.

The Gnasher is too inconsistent for me too, so when I use it it's generally for suppresion fire into smoke or something.

The pistol is a little too inaccurate over long range with the "walk" upwards, and too slow of a ROF at close range.

Hammer of Dawn is too imprecise. I can barely keep it on a Seeder, much less the guy charging me with the shotgun.

Boomshot doesn't have a big enough ammo cap, and again, a little too imprecise.

Boltok is too slow ROF, and I don't care to really practice with it.

Longshot is a lot of fun, but I usually die before I can use it.

Frags need to be more like proximity bombs, methinks.

That leaves the Lancer. I feel like if people really used it stop and pop style then they would realize it's potential. Great for supppresing fire, a fairly accurate blind fire (no one ever talks about blind fire) and of course, the chainsaw. A good ammo cap, good ROF, and if everyone is firing at the same time, it creates a wall of lead that no one will even try to get through. So, it might piss off Master Pre (haha), but I'm afraid I rather have to go with the proletariat on this one.
