Friday Frag Fest, 9 Feb '07

Gearheads,

Papi is on the road today, so I'm setting up the sign up for Friday.  Until we get something more official, here is my attempt to organize.  We will begin the FFF at 8:30 PM (PST).  Of course, earlier birds are welcome to get things going early as you see Gearheads log on.  In the case of the planned group, I will begin it as host and eliminate any host advantage issues.  We're keeping an eye on MDK and Zoso with their magical Lancer and Shotty, respectively.  

Papi's only other request is to be left the 8th position in the sign up.  We all want a chance to kibble Papi, so I'm sure everyone is cool with that.  Therefore, the next 6 signees that reply to this will be on the priority invite.

Now, as FFF grows we dont want to leave others, so if the First group is signed up, we will need another Gearhead to volunteer as 2nd Host.  When that person recognizes themselves, the 2nd wave of GH's can reply under his/her message.  

Also, last time we did attempt to establish a rotation based on the last two point earners stepping out for a bit.  We may try this again, or attempt a volunteer rotation so that everyone gets a chace to wack on Papi or whomever it is your gunning for.

    BTW, I have a fiber optic connection for: 3Mbps UP and 26Mbps DOWN (ping is a little high, but I haven't had any complaints).  If we need another host, we are welcome to try mine.

    Now, what are the game settings that is usually used so that I can get them ready ahead of time?

    Also, Zoso Fan, you must be like all Friended up, eh?  I have sent several requests and they always just disappear without even going to the request pending thingy.  Feel free to dump some of the dead wood off your list  ;)  I'll send you a crate full of Doenuts for your VP garden.  lol

      But, there is a certain amount of glee that is experienced when we know it is you.  Must be the celbrity status, or it could be the fact you do tend to have a knack at being the last man standing when your squad is eliminated.  At that point you do miraculous, mostly comical, last stands.  Almost like a cornered chiuahuaha, caught in some other cat's in a litter box.

    Some of you may have received an invite from yours truly, DamnBoris.  I hope you all accepted, as I will need to be able to send ya'll the invite for tonight.  If everyone who signed up joins in tonight, then we will definitely have two or more groups rolling.  We'll try and synch it so that there is some kind of rotation.  After we get the first group assembled, we will nominate a 2nd host, unless one of you establishes that early.

    Looking forward to frag'n it up with everyone.  Oh, and don't mind my explicatives and catterwhaling.  Its all reflexive, I'm really having a great time, and not in the least bit angry.  Heaven help you if I get a frag, cause I loves a good bragging.

      I'm going with my future father in law, and we'ere going to bust drunks all night! He's a cop and they have an anti-DUI program and we both get credit for it.  He busts people, and I get to watch, or get it on tape like COPS. So I'll let you guys know if anything cool happens.

    and sending out invites.  I usually just start inviting every gearhead I see, things get a bit crazy later in the evening because the online friends list gets huge.  

    As prodigyreborn said, I suck ;).  So if you see a random guy running at you with pistol, don't even worry, I can't hit the broadside of a barn.

    3Sun, it looks like we could possibly have enough people playing tonight for 3 games.  I'll talk with you and zoso later about coordinating swaps of personnel to keep the games lively.

    For the books

    it was good time and some surprises were dropped on us during the matches like...

    1. 3 chainsaw kills in a row for Chantal
    2. Double kill with the boomshot for papi
    3. Massive headshots with the sniper for MDK
    4. Massive headshots with the shotgun for Zoso
    5. alot of team killing because friendly fire was on

    all in all it was fun had by all.

      was having to hunt down ESuns not once, but twice in a one-on-one situation.  Dude can hide really well.  You think these maps are small, but I just couldn't find him.

    •  A great time, def! (none / 0)

      Highlights:  
      *Square dancing with the chainsaw (near the Longshot spawn on Clocktower) and getting three kills in a row, literally one animation following the other.  Chantal wasn't the only one.
      *Sniping Zoso, if memory serves, on Rooftops.
      *Going one-on-one with papi (until I bled, that is) - and hey, I wasn't hiding, I was hunting.  
      *Having only been sniped two times, three at the very most, in the whole evening!
      *Watching two of my teammates (Zoso and SweetTea?), running together in their priestly Locust robes, owning everything in site.  I haven't seen that kind of close teamwork since Cruise and Kilmer took the MiGs out of the sky in the Top Gun.
      *Similarly, watching through MDK's eyes and getting a feel for how the game SHOULD be played.  I love that you can switch perspectives after you die; it is an incredible opportunity to learn.
      *Getting apologized to several times after my friendly-fire demise, which happened on at least three occasions.  I never get tired of good sportsmanship.

      Things I didn't know:  
      When all your teammates are dead, everything goes silent.  The first couple of times, I thought it was my headset. Later, I realized that indeed, I was the only one left on my team.  It is an interesting design choice that there is no indication as to who is left standing, friend or enemy.  Either watch the kills as they get listed or be out of the loop!

      Things I learned:
      *Patience: when down to one-on-one, don't run to papi, let papi come to me!
      *Don't always let the players with skillz go for the power weapons.  Next time, if I spawn in the front, especially on Fuel Depot, I will be running my ass off to get the Longshot first.  

      Things I learned about myself:  
      *I'm I fame junkie.  I love it when I get final kill and my name is up on the screen for all to see!
      *My favorite gameplay style is ....wait,...I'm not telling you guys.  I'm not givin' away all my secrets.  ;)  I will tell you this much.  If I am last man standing on my team, be prepared for a drawn out finish, because I am no longer going to rush the end.  I would rather the round end in a draw than meet my fate at the chain of papi's saw.

      Most Embarrassing Moment:  
      *Realizing that everyone was watching through my eyes when I started doing the Fred Astaire on the lower level of Mansion, all the while unbeknownst to me, it wasn't papi upstairs running pillar to post with the chainsaw, but Zoso with the Longshot.  Needless to say, I didn't dance long.  ...I heard what everyone was saying after the fact.  I can just image what they were saying during the fact!
      *At one point in the evening, captains, and then teams, were chosen. I sh!t you not, I haven have not done that since elementary school.  And I have to say, it felt just the same.  Frickin' Charlie Brown here.

      Regrets:
      *Getting hustled by Dark Karma76. ;)   I played one-on-one with him for about half an hour before everyone gathered and I did quite well.  I was almost feeling like I better not play too well, or I will scare him off.  Then, after everyone started showing up, thinkin' he was soft, I got owned by his shottie time and again.
      *Not playing with Master Pre.  We kept missing each other.  
      *Likewise, I would have loved to play with all the other Gearheads as well.  It would be cool if Epic gave us some sort of giant lobby thingy where a group of 30 or more players could seemlessly rotate in and out of games, dragging friends along with you.

    Was just being able to play with some of you guys last night!  It was the most fun I have had yet playing GOW!  I pretty much sucked it up most of the night but I had my moments, especially on the Rooftops with the boomshot!  Isn't that right Master Pre!?  By the way Pre, what was all that crap the other day about not being able to hit the braod side of a barn with the pistol!?  Every time I came at you with the shotty you pistol whipped my ass and put a few rounds in my head!  Can't wait for next Friday though!

    Thx again Damn Boris, I had a great time and was doing pretty good then when Zoso joined our team it seemed like there was no one to kill (lol) so I just tried to stay alive at that point. It was nice to meet the gearheads I had a chance to play with, and hope to have a chance to kill- I mean meet more of you next week. And I later ran into naveeda in some other matches and had a great time fragin some folks with him - Great matches naveeda and nice to finally meet you.
