Missing Weapons?

Sun Mar 18, 2007 at 07:57:44 PM EST

I was looking through some old Gears screenshots and I noticed a battle rifle looking gun that wasn't included in the final version of the game... Do you think this might come back at some point as downloadable content? Or did it just not fit the style of the game? I think it would work great as a scoped-machinegun type!

Could this be that plasma gun we've heard about? Or maybe a battle rifle? It is definately not a sniper or anything included in the final game, but I was thinking that it may have been the early lancer minus the chainsaw...

Any way you could pull some strings and get some official info on this Papi? Its got my really curious now, because I don't believe this has been brought up before!

    have just reminded me.
i saw a trailer on google.com before GoW was released, the locust (single player campaign)
their was some sort of plasma shots. The color of the shots we're like red balls.
so im guessing they took it out and just decided to bring it back.

    when is the update coming?
i get my 360 fix in 5-8 days.

    locust was using the weapon***
    forgot to mention that.

so that must be the plasma weapon.

  •  It's definitely not the Lancer (none / 0)

Because there is a later screenshot that shows Dom and Marcus sneaking up on a pair of Locust around the corner. Dom and Marcus have Lancers, and the Locust have the "mystery" gun you linked to. Whatever it was, they took it out of the game pretty late it seems, especially for it being a weapon that was in almost every early screenshot of the game.

seeing the second photo. Never really thought anything of it.
A plasma gun certainly does seem like a 'Halo' pose.

  •  so... (none / 0)

This plasma gun could have been hiding right under our noses the entire time... haha
    •  Let's not call it plasma (none / 0)

Instead, let's assume it is a weapon powered by "imulsion".  You know, it is funny how such a huge concept in the game, "imulsion", really wasn't exploited in the game, nor was it really explained well.  We got to see all that juice, but we didn't see how it was used or what it could do, other than boil a bug.

I would hope that Epic has tons of weapon designs ready to be unleashed, only, they probably have to go thru some retooling and consideration so that aren't just regurgetated Halo mods or a faint copy of something in Unreal Tournament.  They have two franchise that have to feel different, so I'm sure there is some nail biting going on over there before putting a weapon in circulation.

haha Nice find! Its always cool to see what may or may not have been apart of a game that we all love

awhile ago, before gears came out, they said this was just an early build of a gun. I am pretty sure they took it out awhile ago. Also, i think the lasers you guys saw were how the bullets looked in the very early stages of the game. I really doubt that they would put the gun back in, but i guess it could happen.

Adding a gun into a game seems like a tricky thing to do, unless it was also only available on new maps.

  •  Yea (none / 0)

Just looks like older model/prototype. Guarantee there will be no new weapons for update.

I'm feeling California and looking Minnesota.

It could work well with the other weapons. Think of something that has scope with less zoom than the sniper, but better than a lancer, that has a burst shot just like in Halo. It could be great.
