What are your favorite games that nobody played?

Tue Jun 12, 2007 at 08:30:59 PM EST

Well, i recently posted this diary about my favorite game series most people haven't played. But what i want to know is the classic games you all know and love that other might not. Together, we will build each other's classic game libraries!

Well, on top of Shenmue, i would also say that Midnight Club 3 DUB edition might be one of the most badass games ever. The good ole' days of playing with my friends and puting hours and hours into racing while blasting Johnny Winter and FOGHOT's wonderful cover of "Maybelline".

Also, as amato18 posted, Jet Set Radio Future is also a great game. I mean, jet powered rollerblades with infite grinding on a rollercoaster level? SOLD!

Post your thoughts my fellow gearheads!

  •  Hmmm.... (none / 0)

The Chronicles of Riddick is still my favorite single player game, and I don't really know too many other people who have played it.  To go older than that I would probably say Battle Tanks!  I would be the little tank and lay down turrets all over, that was a pretty awesome game, fully destructable environments too! haha

I'm feeling California and looking Minnesota.

that game is popular proably ninja gaiden is very underrated game and that was one of my favorites.

def a game everybody needs to check out is barbie wild rescue must buy IMO

  •  I dont know about this one (none / 0)

but has anyone ever played Chrono Trigger? this was by far the best game I have ever played. the characters were so awesome and the story was great. the fact that you could end the game with multiple endings was cool too. I still want to play this and if anyone has the site to a working emulator and the game please tell me!

really liked chrono trigger the original perfect dark was great
  •  mine (none / 0)

would be Pride fighting championship for the PS2. unless you are into mixed martial arts then you probably havent played this game.
  •  Goldeneye! (none / 0)

I have my very best every gaming memories playing Goldeneye multiplayer, planting bombs on the ceiling and then screen watching and using the button press combo to active the bomb when the other players would run under it.

I even took it to my bon enkai (Year End Party) and played it with a bunch of Japanese school teachers.  The James Bond setting was instantly accessible and the gameplay was captivating.  After one of the teachers died for the gazillionth time, he threw down the controller and shouted out, "All I do is touch a door and explode."  I never laughed so hard playing any game before or since!

My next favorite classic would have to be Perfect Dark multiplayer with 8 simulants, programming Peace sim to daze everyone and steal their weapons and Kaze sim aka "Wueenie" running around in high heels avenging himself on his latest killer.

After that, it has been all down hill, though I have to say, Gears has come the closest since.  Still, nothing like a real couch as opposed to a virtual couch.

For that matter, even Mario Kart 64 was a hoot!

Hip hip hooray for the 4 player split-screen classics!  I am a social gamer all the way.

But AMEN to 4-player splitscreen goodness!  And to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, two of the best 4 player splitscreen games to ever be.

    •  if you wouldnt have mentioned golden eye, i (none / 0)

would have.  this year before basketball games (varsity waits for jv to play) me and three of my team mates would sit in the locker room and play golden eye on the tv that we watched film on.  it was a blast even though i came to the realization how shitty the graphics are.  despite the graphics, there is nothing better that slaying james bond with a throwing knife when you are natalia, my favorite character ;)

my other memory of golden eye was back in like 4th grade when it was still the best game on the market and my mom wouldnt let me have it for my 64 because it was too violent. i used to have to sneak over to my friends house to play it.  we had some great times with that game

Blaster Master, god I love Blaster Master... And Bubble Bobble, those are probably my two favorite games ever.
    •  man (none / 0)

I love blaster master wish they had made a sequal.
      •  FDSA (none / 0)

They made 2 of them.... There's a reason you don't know about them.
        •  please tell (none / 0)

were they just released in japan.
          •  hgd (none / 0)

No, they came out in the u.s. There were like 5 games, and only one of them that you should go out of your way to find. There were 2 gameboy games, one was a bomberman game that they renamed to try and cash off on what little noteriety Blaster Master had. One  was a gbc game which was pretty much just a remixed version of the nes version, but it moved slower so it never felt right. There were proper sequels on the genesis and ps1 but they never got the phsyics right, the tank didn't have that purposly sluggish feel it had in blaster master that made you feel like you were driving a tank. They didn't have the topdown portion, which was awesome cause it made it feel like it was 2 games in one, and the soundtracks were really dissapointing.
The game you should look out for is Fester's Quest, not a blaster master game, but it used a retooled top down portion from the first one.
Some games get really impressive sequels, Blaster Master unfortinly wasn't one of them.
  •  Thrill Kill. (none / 0)

Seeing as it had to be taken off shelves I guess you could consider this a "sleeper." I even had nightmares, which were by the way extremely cool ones about that game. That, in my opinion was, and still probably is, the best 4-player fighter.

  •  mario 64 (none / 0)

has by far the most gameplay of any game to date.  screw oblivion, it is next gen.  mario had about as much anyways.  catching all those god damn stars and beat bowser 3 different times.  that was the first game that i ever beat to completion and man did it take me a long time.  after some long games you are releived, but when i beat mario 64 i threw a f--kin party.  that was the best game.  when my little brothers friends come over i still play it on their ds just for the memories.

    •  The music for the water level at the beginning (none / 0)

the one where you cage the big eel and then go down to the underwater cave.

The music in that level practically saved me from a nervous breakdown at work.

It was summertime and I was completely spent from a VERY difficult year of teaching.  With special permission from my wife ;) , I bought the whole system, came home, turned up the air-conditioner, closed the blinds, and sat in the living room for almost two days straight playing that game.  Right at the beginning, when I got to that first water level, I just took my time soaking up the music.  I even recorded it with a microphone and played it back in crappy quality over and over again.

When I finally set the controller down, I was completely refreshed, and ready for school in September.  Amazing really!  It was an incredible therapy session.

If you still have the game, go back to that first water level (you only need one star to get in, I think).  Listen to the music.  I am sure you will know what I am talking about right away.  It was that, coupled with the double back layout flips, the butt stomp, and all his other new moves.  It was so new, and so cool!

  •  Killshot (can't remember) or Black-something (none / 0)

There was a game on the xbox that let me use cover for the first time, including blind fire.  You were some dude being semi controlled by someone else in the story. Anyways, I had a blast using cover against the enemies and the various weapons.

Can anyone remember the name of the game I'm describing.  I'm pretty sure it was on the original xbox.  It made shooting fun.

  •  X-Com (none / 0)

On the PS1.  The graphics were crappy and there was virtual no action, but it was just one of those games that was very deep and challenging.  I have not seen its like, on a console, since.

  •  I have to say it again, (none / 0)

Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shenmue 1 and 2 need to be played.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is an incrediable RPG that you fly on the backs of dragons, real time combat, which you can morph your dragon for different attatcks.  An awesome story and some really good cutscenes.

Shenmue has a great story that is told through a massive environment and I think is a sheer blast to play.

Toy Commander is a great game that needed more players and a remake!

Wizard's First Rule: People are stupid! Things perceived as real are real in their consequences.

  •  Time Crisis (none / 0)

for the dreamcast or PS1 i cant remember bit it had the coolest gun. After i got rid of my dreamcast or Ps1 for the lastest console XBOX, i cut off the cord and pretended that it was my gun. Now i was about 10 or so at the time so please do not make fun of me.

POWERSTONE 1 but mostly number 2
Where to begin. This game was the mostly badest fighting game for any system. Where you fought up to four people, and if you collected three power stones then your guy transformed into this badass guy with special armor and super strong. And it also had interactive environments. Also the single player for number 2 was very much fun, and the last boss guy was a challenge to defeat.

    Bio F.R.E.A.K.S

for the N64 was one of my favorite fighting games for that system. (Not including the MK series.)If you stepped in the wrong place then your body would be ground up or impaled. and i just loved it.

These are just a few of my favorite games of the past that no one probably ever played

  •  It's not my favorite game (none / 0)

but not many people played it.  I actually really enjoyed Kameo.  And Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time did not sell very well at all even though it might very well be in my top three games of all time.  I didn't really like the sequels though.
  •  i (none / 0)

  •  Hmm... (none / 0)

game I love that no one else seemed to. Obi-Wan! It was on the original Xbox and like the first new Star Wars movie, I loved it! (contrary to the masses)

    Did ANYONE play Obi-Wan?

    •  Yep. (none / 0)

Along with another I think it was called Jedi Academy or something, but it had like Deathmatch-style multiplayer with bots which was so much fun.

so much fun! Hm, I wonder where I put that game...I just may have to check it out again!

Speaking of that- Any GearHeads want to do a Retronaughts type of thing? Go back and play old games (not necessarily the ones that sucked) and then post a thread with our thoughts? Sounds like fun...
