Just wanted to say thanks to the Gearheads!

Mon Jun 18, 2007 at 12:06:36 PM EST

Most of you know who I am.  For those who don't I'm Master Pre and I run another gaming community called Masters Few.  I just got done doing a writeup for my site and since it involved some Gearheads that I gamed with this weekend I figured I'd post it over here.

I will admit I'm a bit biased towards my guys and my fellow Masters, but I have to admit that the likes of the "Doe" twins and Zoso Fan can leave the most well versed GoW players in a crumpled pile on the battle ground.

Anyway, Here's the writeup if you guys are curious at all.

"So here is part two of my writeup for today.

Masters Few = The Refiners Fire

What do I mean by that statement? Thanks for asking!  hahah

Ok, so I had the oppurtunity to test my game against outsiders this weekend. I know it's odd that I left our compound to visit the outside world but sometimes you have to see what the non-Masters have to offer.

It was really a pleasant surprise to have a fun gaming experience, most of my opponents (and some teammates) were from the Gearheads of War (www.gearheadsofwar.com) which made for the quality of play to be both high and enjoyable.

I was finally able to test my game against the likes of such legends of the Gearheads such as the "Doe" twins "Seriously Doe" and "Really Doe," JohnEMidnight, Zoso Fan, Blankman, and others. (*Note:  Sorry if I missed any of the other Gearheads)

I will begin by saying that the games were very competative, in that no team or player had a huge advantage in that there was no one dominant player, but some fantastic team efforts were seen on both the Cog and the Locusts.

Where my team pride came in is that the Masters really stuck together, played as a team and won a majority of the games. We played some fantastic game, and I had the distinct privelege of gaming with Zoso Fan on my team. Might I say that he is one of the funniest guys I've ever encountered on XBox Live. I think he had AP and myself in stitches as he made some of the most random statements I have ever heard for in game commentary. Bravo Zoso Fan, Bravo!

So the "Masters" represented well against a strong adversary, it was not a clean sweep but I do feel comfortable in calling it a victory for our cause, that being good, clean fun in an online gaming environment.

I owe any success I had to two distinct and equally important factors:

Factor 1: Host Advantage  (I was the host, and while I have a very solid connection, it sure doesn't hurt to be host)

Factor 2: Playing and refining my game against my fellow Masters.

I think that sometimes we forget just how good some of our fellow Masters are. I don't believe in glorifying the individual too much, but we've got some fantastic players that are both superb gentleman and gamers. This is where the "Refiners Fire" comes into play.

We have trained like an army of ninja's for months, and it has yielded possitive results in everyones game. I feel that I owe you all a big "Thank You" for not only allowing for such a fun experience, but being such good sports through it all.

We've got a great thing going here, and every Gathering of the Masters we hold, that becomes more apparent. Let's keep the good vibe's going and really enjoy this whole thing for what it is:

A bunch of guys getting together, acting as gentleman and enjoying some online gaming!

Pre"

Thanks for the great gaming experience, and while we may be from two different gaming communities, it was a lot of fun to get some great gaming in with you guys.

You Gearheads are a great bunch of guys.  Thanks for your time.

  •  Not too modest about your guys are you ; ) (none / 0)

I think that was zoso's fist game of the night as well. Also, he was papiless.... When he and papi get together, their skills grow exponentially. I was looking forward to playing against you guys (even if you do tend to pistol whip ;)), but I felt terrible and actually ended up falling asleep around 11 EST (which is strange because generally, I am up until around 3). I hope to be able to play you guys on this Friday.
  •  He just proud (none / 0)

Of the guys that he plays with.nothing wrong with that just like you guys are proud of your gearheads.
  •  No offense taken. (none / 0)

I'm not implying that you didn't read my post, but if you really read the context in how I presented the information, you would realize that while I may be biased, I did not take away any of the praise that was deserved by the Gearheads that were there.

This isn't a competition to see who is the best, and that's why I said I feel that it was a victory in ideals versus score in that we all had a great time gaming, that was the reward for that night.

As for this Friday, we have our official "Gathering of the Masters" just like you have your Fragfests every Friday, so basically every Friday is booked for our internal gaming.

But I'd be more than happy to get some friendly gaming at another time and day, I'm always looking forward to gaming with guys that have a good attitude.

I don't post here on gearheadsofwar.com often because I have my own site and community.  However I felt that it was more than appropriate to divulge this writeup because it truly was a pleasure gaming with some of the Gearheads.

As for Zoso being Papi-less that night, I think that's a very fair statement that you made! hahah  Perhaps the next time we meet Papi Blez will be able to attend.  :)  Although from what I saw, Zoso can more than carry his own weight in GoW, so I have a hard time seeing him dependant on anyone like you somewhat implied in your post.

i game with a bunch of communities, 2old2play, VGR, Gearheads and MastersFew, and you guys are really an awesome bunch. Its a not the skill thats the hallmark of your community but the attitude of the members and the standards you guys have set for yourself. anyone who has gamed with you would attest to this.

Thanks Naveeda!  That's why you're a Master my friend! :)

    •  no (none / 0)

but i am working on the montage of making sandwiches. :)

As for the game, it was A LOT of fun to get it on with your community (both meanings intended). Really Doe (though kicking ass) usually plays even better than that. And i wouldn't say it was a legit gearheads match because mostly we were split up (minus the doe's for some point). Most of our success (like everyone) lies in our teamwork. We all have our own strong traits and each person on a team has his job.

...and yes, my skills x10 usually with Papi. ;) Mostly because of the teamwork i mentioned before. Our nicknames are "Chocolate" (papi) and "Peanut Butter" (myself)

      its hot.

reading your post again pre, i would think it would be necessary to explain that last night was not really a competition. I mean this in that calling a victory over anything wouldn't make much sense. Like i said, as a whole team of gearheads we are a lot stronger of a force. Last night was for fun, while competition is fun as well, lets just say we play more agressively. (really doe takes out the whole team himself) ;)

The only reason i mention this, is because we have yet to lose against any site, and our list is honorable. ;)

    •  Sorry (none / 0)

My intent was not trying to make this sound like a gearheads versus masters game.

I know this wasn't an official match, I was just having a great time and I wanted to discern that we had both Masters Few and Gearheads represented.

I wasn't trying to say that any one group won over the other, that's why I said the victory was not in points but in having a good time with good people.

If we have an "official" game between our communities I'm sure we'll bring our "A" game from both teams. :)

And Zoso, when you make that montage video, please put it to 80's Hair Bands!  I feel that kind of music would really represent that night. hahah

I'm gonna go make a sandwhich. :) hahah
