Gearheads of War: The Musical

Sat Jun 23, 2007 at 08:25:10 PM EST

Man some funny stuff comes up on Friday nights.  As many of you know I switch out the Hammerburst for Boom shot.  I figure, why not make the maps more interesting since no one uses Hammerburst any way?

So as I was booming my way through Fuel Depot and Gridlock, we came back to the pregame lobby and I started singing "Boom boom boom let's go back to my room so we can do it all night."  SweetTea promptly replied, "Hey, we should create Gearheads: The Musical, what with that song and Really Doe's acting chops."

Any way, it was one of the light moments of the night.  As usual, Really Doe was nasty with the shotgun, taking Lancer bullet after Lancer bullet and refusing to acknowledge they were even there.    Although I did actually win one one-on-one shotty battle with Really Doe for maybe the first time in the history of FFF.  Usually if Really gets close to you, your head is going to pop off or you're going to blow apart.  That's just one of the laws of FFF.

It was a ton of fun as usual and we played until the other side of midnight when my wife got home from seeing Gwen Stefani in concert.  One of the big highlights of the evening was the final brother versus brother, Wangler vs. Wangler battle (SweetTea vs. Wangler1316) to decide the final victor on Mausoleum.  The battle was epic, prompting Zoso to quip, "This is downright Shakespearean and if SweetTea had any dignity, he'd just off himself right now rather than kill his brother."  A moment later, younger brother prevailed for the final kill of the night and sending the Zoso/Papi/Robbins/Younger Wangler to bed with the satisfaction of victory.  Although Zoso claimed he was going to go get a chocolate shake.  I think that was an homage to our brothers in arms partnership as I quickly realized it was my obligation to get a peanut butter shake today.  Heh.

Finally, since this post has a music theme, I was wondering what the perfect Gears of War soundtrack might be.  My daughter heard the song "Bodies" today by Drowning Pool and loved it.  Obviously that would be a good candidate.  I was also thinking that Shamrocks and Shenanigans (Butch Vig Mix) by House of Pain would be another good choice since it's got the "Boom-Sha-lak-lak-Boom" chorus and it's got "shenanigans" in the title.  I personally love the "I bring doom because I've got the boom" line.  Any other songs?  The Mad World song would need to be on there as well as Megadeth's Gears of War.  And a good amped up song that I also like is Sepultura's Ratamahatta.

  •  Ooooh mann... (none / 0)

I was sooo tired at work today lol. I almost fell asleep twice. But anyways, another good fragfest! I was doing well on most maps, until BulletMarsh came up, in which I got 3 headshots in a row! Man, I wish I had a capture card for that one. Going to get one sometime next month! Also, I can record the FFF and edit it so it has all the amazing outcomes in it. I must say, for some reason I always do really good with the sniper on BulletMarsh...kinda like Papi with those amazingly unbelieveably long-range boomshots on gridlock and fuel depot ;). Cant wait for next friday!

Hello all, i will be on next week (6/29), i will host around 7pm ET.  If your not on my friends list please do so.

I like the idea of a musical....  How about "Blood drops keep falling on my head, trying to avoid the gibs as i chain saw my friend...."   Thought that was catchy...

Hows that Zoso???  Miss me the past couple of weeks.... Still love me?

Papi, i really miss not playing these past two weeks, i plan on a long Friday night next week.  It is fun to hook up with you all over the week.

I have to admit i played Resident Evil 4 on wii as well as Scarface... on wii.  But i better practice for next week as you know when we played this past week i was very rusty, time to "oil up" the chainsaw....

Catch you all this week and especially Friday.

    Poland....

You will meet your maker, the "chainsaw" and POLANDSTYLE

  •  I (none / 0)

was only on a short while this friday but apparently in some alternate reality that i've created for myself, sniper bullets pass right through me with little to no effect. Must've been the booze...there is no spoon.

As far as a musical goes, I have a couple of suggestions:
       All Along The Watchtower-Hendrix
       The Trooper-Iron Maiden
       Hang 'Em High-My Chemical Romance
       Rock Rebellion-Bang Camaro
Kiss Me I'm Shitfaced-Dropkick Murphy's (for those of us who enjoy an adult beverage or two on Friday nights)
And from the "What the fuck?" category:
Superstar-The Carpenters (some of you might know this tune from the car scene in Tommy Boy)

  •  i was on (none / 0)

with bigscott, silentstrike, machete, and some others ealier in the night.  it was a blast i got more head shoots than ever before. it was a blast.  then later on in the night i was on with blankman and i cant remember who esle(sorry).  me and blankman had some serious co-op together.  it was great.

and as far as the musical, i love rock music but i also love some rap.  maybe some DMX either from his first album or "flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood"  those albums are awesome.  they get me primed to play some gears.  with the serios beats and crazy situations he raps about.  DMX is always rappin about stayin alive and things like that!

  •  Great FFF (none / 0)

last night. For the musical how about the song "Total Eclipse of the Heart". Everytime I play Raven Down I sing that song when I'm about to get a chainsaw kill. It has honestly never failed and I get a kill EVERY TIME I sing the song :). Another good one is "Down with the Sickness" by Disturbed. I was playing some co-op with rEDChief and I swear that the song was made for the game. Everytime there was an explosion, the chorus kicked in. Also, I think any and all Barry White would be great :).

soundtrack but it always gets my pumped to play gears.  "remember the name" - fort minor

whenever i play that song, i always go all extra undertaker coming in on a tag in a championship fight at wrestlemania ;)

if you understand that, you too are an og loc.

Some of the Gearheads that I was able to play with last night such as TexasTrap, Machete, Loco Doe were commenting that over forty people posted that they'd be on for FFF, but there were only two rooms set up.  What the heck?!?

    •  Thats because (none / 0)

Papi's room is the more competitive one, and includes some of the top GearHeads. Also, the people that are in his game are all the people who usually play with papi during the week when he's on. We try to get different people in, but once we have a full room, everyone stays until it's over unless they have stuff to do. Plus, isnt Poland coming back this week? If he is, then we could have at least 3 rooms going...Papi's, GearsChrisB's, and Polands..and whoever else wants to host. Dont worry Blank, I'll get you into the next FFF! Just be on a few minutes before Papi starts up a room, and you'll get an invite from him, or me if I am in the game :)

      •  I'm just saying... (none / 0)

I normally get into the FFFs with papi on a regular basis.  The post was not meant to sound negative in any way.  I was merely commenting that several of us were wondering where everyone else was last night.  After all, papi's room can only hold 8 players.  What happened to the other 30+ blog posters that stated that they'd be on last night's FFF?

Yeah I was gonna host a early match and just haven't been feeling too good lately and took a nap.    I posted that i wouldn't be on til later.  This is the first FFF that I didn't host since I've posted that I will host, sorry to all who was on early, I read that a couple of other Gearheads said that they would have a room going. Yeah Blankman there wasn't that many people on for some reason, that was kind of weird.  I did get into Papi's room and had a lot of fun.  I actually killed 2 people at once with the torque bow, now all of you that have played with me know that I never use the torque so that was pretty cool.  Papi was getting some awesome boom shot kills.  Robbins had some really good head shots.  Good times as usual.

i would just love to play in the your more competitive games but you dont start hosting till like two on the east and that is just to late for me.

  •  i dont know (none / 0)

about more competitive.  the room i hosted was very competitive and had some very good players in it.  it just seems like the same people play in papis room every week.  but its cool cause i always get to play with some good gearheads every friday so im not complaining.  but blankman is right, there where like 40 people that said they would play and then there where only 2 rooms of gearheads on.  but anyway i had a great time.  ill be on all week so if anyone wants to play let me know.

    •  I think that some of us... (none / 0)

...are a bit taken back by the mention of papi's room being more competitive.  That's very subjective because I think that everyone tries to bring their best.  Some Gearheads are more consistent than others.  There are clearly those that are just ridiculous with their skills.  Before things blow up into something that it shouldn't be, I don't think anyone should read too much into what Robbins posted.  Everyone knows he's a cool guy & I'm sure he didn't mean any malice from it.

    Green Jelly

I'm gonna go with the cliché route here and say that I think some Rob Zombie - "Dragula" or Pantera - "Cowboys From Hell," "Hollow," or Ted Nugent's or Pantera's cover of "Cat Scratch Fever." I just think Dimebag Darrel's riffs would pump up the Adrenaline and keep you on your toes' while you play, I know it does for me =)

But I know some of you don't like that type of music so I'd understand if they wouldn't be liked, but that's what I thought would be a nice "pumper-upper" for Gears.
