Peter Moore leaves MS for.... EA???

Tue Jul 17, 2007 at 05:03:42 PM EST

That's right, Peter Moore is well... no more! He has left Microsoft to become the head of EA Sports. I don't know why he would leave at this point in time, but it seems like this is legitimate and that Microsoft needs to find someone to replace him as the head of xbox360.
But why would you leave when the 360 is on such a roll? Especially for a quality questionable company like EA (and EA sports at that)! http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/805/805713p1.html

  •  wow! this is a shocker (none / 0)

what about that tattoo? expect to see Big Mac emblems in Halo 3 or 76 ads on warthogs :D
  •  Holy Crap! (none / 0)

This has got to be a joke....seriously! This is HUGE news!

I'm not sure how this will play out...if he stays true to his fans then I think we could possibly see some exclusives on 360....

Either way I'm really sad he's leaving and will miss his vision and leadership. :(!

Alright, time to research this Mattrick guy...

    •  I agree, I was shocked (none / 0)

He was an outstanding PR guy for MS.  I suppose he was missing family or location, and needed to get back to California.  It could have been other things.  Regardless, this Mattrick guy has got ENORMOUS shoes to fill.  Peter Moore truly appeared to be genuine and humble in all his dealings with the public.  That is where Mattrick is going to have his work cut out for him.

(even when the announcement of the Halo 3 360 fell flat, he later said it was because of his showmanship, and not the product, that the crowd was silent.)

      Too bad for Microsoft.

      •  Big loss... (none / 0)

I guess we'll all find out the real reason on his departure when the dust settles in the coming weeks.  His absence will definitely sting because his candidness with the fanbase/consumers created a good rapport.  Mattrick seems too stiff & he definitely does have his work cut out for him.  I absolutely loved the Dreamcast which Moore was responsible for during his time with Sega.  When Moore took over the reins of the 360, I was ecstatic.  Let's hope Mattrick can loosen up & display the bravado & showmanship that Moore exuded.  Wow, EA really beefed up their roster with the addition of Moore!  What a huge acquisition!  Will this lead to more love for the 360?  Only time will tell.

  •  maybe he's gone over to EA (none / 0)

to make sure the damn games have some quality control.
  •  Huge disappointment! (none / 0)

Moore was a staunch supporter & innovator for the 360 & XBL.  He was one of the instrumental executives that pushed for the 3-yr. extension of every 360 console.  Although the official reason that was stated was because he wanted to move back to the Bay Area to be with his family, I really don't buy that.  MS' pockets are deep.  Although it's not always about making money, something had to have gone down for him to resign.  Now that J Allard has been reassigned to the failing Zune, Ed Fries is at Sony, Robbie Bach is god knows what dept., Moore leaves.  What the heck is going on?!?  Or am I reading too much into this exodus from MS?

  •  No I think hiim (none / 0)

leaving was clean, and Microsoft had nothing to do about it. Then again he could have lost his job because of the Red Rings issue....

    but I doubt it.

I'm really anxious to know what this new guy's all about...I'm sure Major Nelson will dive into it in his show this week and of course 1UP Yours will discuss it at length.

  •  yeah (none / 0)

his family lives near the EA hq. Makes sense to me.

    •  EA is in Playa del Rey/Marina del Rey (none / 0)

My old stomping grounds!  The EA campus looks tremendous from the exterior.  Now, if there were only a way to get inside...  Then I could help them make better games.  LOL

bet his family was part of it, but mostly the red rings issue had to do with most of it. I mean they kicked J Allerd 4 less then that

  •  Well, the offer Peter was given (none / 0)

was almost something that he couldn't refuse.  I could support my family and live happily off the interest of just one of the benefits he has been given.  I mean, we are way into Pro sports star ranges here.
