New computer, seeking help.

Wed Jul 25, 2007 at 11:54:24 AM EST

Sorry for multiple posts about my xbox breaking (grrrrrrr.) but this is definately not in regards to my xbox.

I remember reading a Vista review on the site and thought I could ask some of my fellow gearheads, preferably those who know what they are talking about, to help me in the buying process.

I am looking into customizing the computer, and I was wondering if any of you know good sites that do that as well as recommended specs. I am definately looking into duel core, not sure about AMD or intel, I have had AMD before but I would like to know what you guys recommend. I am a semi pc gamer, an avid multitasker, and will use the computer for much film editing (hopefully for a FFF video to rival Grymm's once I get my xbox back. So again, any recommended specs for what I will be using this computer for will be great, and sites that can build custom computers would be great to know as well. I know that SweetTea023 and Zoso have knowledge in this area, but anyone else, feel free to comment!

The intel core 2 quad 6600-only $375 at newegg, with 2 to 4gigs ram ,mobo(asus, bfg, gigabyte are some good companies). The core 2 quad is awesome for 3d rendering, video editing and more. Since you game also the 8800gts or 8800gtx will get you by for a few years. The new Antec P190 case with dual power supplys is very nice. For now Intel is winning the cpu game now. AMDs Fusion setup is very interesting but not out till next year sometime.

I also forgot to mention my budget, which is roughly 900 dollars, however I already have an nVIDIA geFORCE 6200 256 mb graphics card, so although it's not the best, that is the graphics card I will be using. I know that the card runs using an agp slot, I think pony express might handle it. So the motherboard I'm looking for has to have an agp slot and three standard pci slots(minimum).

intel is pwning AMD in-terms of top of the line. And do you want to go dx10?

    So you're buying prebuilt?

Anyway yeah go Intel dual core, currently.

The MSRP of Intel's cheapest quad core dropped to 266 in the last few days. 375 at newegg is only because Newegg sold out so fast they re-raised the price. The price is supposed to be 266, so might want to wait a bit till it drops to that. Might want to try to get that to really future proof your PC if you can afford it.

    Bioshock's graphics are average.

those prices are so sick. After i bought my x6700 (dual core) intel announced their price drops. >:(

I mean, my CPU will be able to run anything announced maxed out, it's just quad core has a ring to it :)
