Everything on Halo 3 that isn't mentioned(Major Spoiler at end of post)

The 5th Forerunner Artifact on the main site is unlocked, so check it out when you get the chance.  I'm just loading it up now, so I'll update this when I get the chance later.

Also, if you've seen some pics of the Haloclix game that is being brought to us by Wizkids, you may have noticed some surprises.  I've seen a Cortana figure (?) and a Brute-Flood Combat Form (!) present, as well as Master Chief with Tarturas' Hammer.  Okay, so not really a big deal for the game, since we have figured out that the Brutes are no exception to the Flood's hunger, and Cortana and this particular Chief are just a surprise to the table-top game.  Look for it on store shelves on September 18th.

*Major plot spoilers pretaining to Halo 3 from the artifact on Halo3.com, as well as the Halo Uprising comic series.  You have been warned.

Back to the Forerunner Artifact on Halo3.com, it seems the Forerunners were close to humanity, studied us, and even went out of their way to protect us from the Flood.  So how did we live and the Forerunners did not?  Did the Forerunners disable the Halo that would effect Earth so that we would be saved while the rest of the galaxy was purged of sentient life?  Is that the purpose of the Key of Osanalan, which is located on Earth, to activate the last, and perhaps greatest, of the Halos?  As anti-Spartan Naval Officer Ackerson said, "Without it--the Halo will fail...Like it failed last time--."

  •  Ok, I didn't (none / 0)

read the books, but can someone sum up to me what these Forerunners are? Are they like an Alien race, but different from the Covenant?

    •  i thought they were the ancestors of the covanent (none / 0)

Forerunners are the alien race that built the halos to imprison the flood. They've set off the Halos once before which might be why they're no longer around.

I didn't read the spoiler, so if I'm just reciting what was already said sorry.

    •  Ouch. (none / 0)

Well, they're a long-dead (by a little over 100,000 years apparently) race that built the Halos.  Why are they dead?  They activated the Halos, thereby stranding the Flood and starving them of potential hosts.  The Flood went dormant.

If you want examples of Forerunner engineering, other than the Halos and Flood (the latter is just speculation), look at 343 Guilty Spark.

So, long story short they're the race that built the Halos, activated them, and haven't been answering their voicemail.  Oh, and the Covenant worship them as Gods; all of the technology the Covenant currently has has been taken and reworked from Forerunner artifacts.

On a side note, supposedly AdjutantReflex will be in the Ark in Halo 3.  It's been said that Iris (name of the ARG) will tie directly into Halo 3's storyline, and with one of the last data files (also in the video) that was released in Server 5, we get this line:

"You asked me once, what happened to those who vanished?
You asked me, why did we survive where our fathers fell?
You wished to know how we ever let it happen
A scourge that consumed the galaxy
And the cure that was worse than the cancer
You asked me once about my intent
And the spot that would not wash out
I promise you the answers lie in the Ark
Find me there in the dark
For that is where I abide
      "

Again, just speculation that it's AR talking to us (as a kind of "last contact" from the B.net posts), but cool nonetheless.  Either way, there's SOMETHING in the Ark.
