Meh... I'll wait for Halo 3.
  •  well... (none / 0)

i really doubt the multyplayer will be any better than CALL OF DUTY 4 because well, nothing new and maybe you have no idea what CALL OF DUTY 4 will have, it will have ranks, attachements, perks, and alot more! nothing your little master chief can give you, AND BETTER GRAPHICS! that dont get sacrificed in multyplayer

  •  sorry i dont understand (none / 0)

what Halo 3 has to do with COD4?
  •  we can start this gd debate again (none / 0)

only with a different game.  instead of gears we're doing cod4

ive never played cod multiplayer so i wouldnt know but the single player (cod2)did not interest me at all.

for multiplayer i think that i will stick with gears for now and then try some other game later but unless someone convinces me that cod4 is the greatest ww2 shooter ever (which in MY OPINION isnt saying much) i wont be buying it.

  •  hmm I think... (none / 0)

I'm not going to sign up for this, I'll be busy enough with Bioshock when I get back from Florida (leaving sunday woot woot! Can't wait) and then Halo 3 when that comes out. I think I'll be busy enough, that way it'll be a surprise when I pick it up on how awesome it is.
  •  I'm not that excited for COD4.. (none / 0)

For some reason it just look too much like a straight boring shooter.

Assasins Creed, Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Halo 3 are higher on the list because they do something different in each case, instead of same old same old.

For example, AC is going to involve more thinking and a free roaming world.

    Bioshock's graphics are average.

"and no halo3 is not going to be better than CALL OF DUTY 4, if you do think that, you need to know the meaning of gamer"

Those are some  pretty big statements...

The graphics do look amazing and I'm sure the gameplay will be fun if it is anything like Call of Duty 2 but come on- judging a game you've never played to be better than one of the biggest franchises of all time?! That takes guts...

Especially when Halo 3 is adding so much more to multiplayer:

    4 player co-op
    Saved Films
    Custom Games
    Forge

Quite a list when leaving out Single Player, new weapons and vehicles and of course teh fun.

There's a reason people still aren't playing COD 2...it's awesome, but still playing it 3 years later awesome?

    Time will tell...

We shall see but my money (literally) is on Halo 3. UT3, zoso ya gotta convince me man, I'm willing to listen!

    •  actually (none / 0)

tons of people are still playing COD2 in terms of overall numbers.

And even at that, amount of sales and number of people that play a game really don't determine its quality. For example, halo 2 was played by a ridiculous number of people, but in terms of gameplay and such many others are far better games.

I cannot say which game will be better this early on, but it definitely not a black and white choice. But if you ask me which game i am more excited for, COD4. Its something substantially new. Halo 3 will probably sell much more, and have more people online, but there is a reason COD4 beat halo all over the place at E3.

        the reason graphics
        •  If that was (none / 0)

the case, then why didn't Crysis win all of the awards? That game easily looks better than CoD4, but didn't get half of the awards. The reason is that CoD4's gameplay is much better. Halo 3 will be a great game I'm sure, but I honestly know that I will play CoD4 more and will like it more. I played CoD2 MUCH more than I played Halo 2 and I enjoyed it alot more. To me, Halo has been copied too much and its formula is getting old. Infinity Ward saw that happening to them too, so they decided to completely change their setting and multiplayer beliefs. They completely changed their game, while halo stayed more or less the same. That is why I will like CoD4 more than Halo 3. It is fresh and new, while Halo has been around for what seems to me, like maybe a little bit too long. I think Bungie should have taken IW's route and changed up their game a little bit more (not necessarily as drastically).
  •  You see to me, (none / 0)

a huge, huge, huge COD 2 guy it just doesn't live up to Halo. It's like that one game you play for months and then something huge is released and you move on to that. I'm still playing Halo 1. Still. Whenever I just want to relax I'll kick back and go through some levels. Maxify that when all my friends are online playing Halo when COD4 ships and it just doesn't have a chance.

Again, I'm a huge call of duty fan. COD2 is what convinced me to get Xbox Live. It's a great, great series (minus 3). But to me,COD4 is still just follow the line set out for you with beautiful graphics.

Oh and the reason COD4 beat Halo is because Halo wasn't playable. COD4 was playable for the judges and all Halo had was a quick play through of one level along with a crappy trailer. Not much to represent the game. That and the fact that CoD4 being amazing came out of no where, compared to Halo 3 which has been greatly anticipated for a long time.

Again, I love COD but to me it's just not as epic as Halo.

    •  Halo's (none / 0)

campaign is just as linear as CoD's.

      •  Now You're Just Making Stuff Up (none / 0)

        Halo 2?  Yes.

Halo 1 and Halo 3?  NO.  Both have branching paths that allow you to choose how to complete your objective.  Evidence of this in Halo 3 is found from reports of the Scarab battle that was shown.  Either board it and take down the occupants from the inside, like Halo 2, take out its legs from afar, or fire rockets into its underbelly.  And those are just the tactics we know about.

And that's just one battle that we've heard about that supports the non-linear gameplay they're shooting for. This battle has reportedly near a hundred enemies and allies (combined, I'd assume, although probably the majority are enemies!) on screen fighting.

Call of Duty is pretty much ride-the-rails.  Not as bad as Gears, but you still have no real opportunity to go around and explore; very small environments.

However, with CoD4 we've seen a small glimpse of choice in the campaign.  I'm basing this off of the live demo shown, so if there are other instances, don't bash me for being a "no0b".  In the demo shown, we saw the player come up to a window.  Through it, we could see around four enemies.  Pistol in hand, the player aimed at the nearest.  Here, his ally alongside him said "don't even think about it", in regards to the player having the nerve to shoot one of the guards.  However, I'd assume we'd actually have the choice to shoot these fellows inside, although what comes of it might not be great.

If Infinity Ward can finally break their habit of linearity with Call of Duty 4, it'll just add to the gameplay experience that much more.

Will I like it more than Halo 3?  I doubt it.  But it will likely come pretty close, as much as I loved Call of Duty 2.  If Halo 3 is more Halo 1 than Halo 2, then I think I'll be playing it for the next year or so.  Constanty.

Especially if I finally get high-speed internet, which might be happening soon.  FFF FTW!

        •  There (none / 0)

were actually many parts in CoD2 where you had several objectives and you could choose how you wanted to do them and which one to do first. Also, the scarab battle talked about is NOT open ended. I think that Bungie was just trying to make their game look less linear. Saying you can take out the scarab different ways is like saying you can take out generaly raam different ways... or any enemy at that! Also, I can't recall many open ended parts in Halo 1... Remember, I'm not bashing Halo, I'm sure it will be a great game, but saying it isn't linear is blasphemy. It's madness!!
          •  Oh yeah (none / 0)

I forgot to mention that I'm sure CoD4 will be linear as well. I just can't imagine playing a nonlinear halo or CoD.
          •  Hrm. (none / 0)

You mean three close-together objectives that make up a small map?  Yeah, real non-linear.

As for the Scarab Halo 3 battle I mentioned.. you're saying that it's not open-ended, but CoD2's "destroy the three (four?) flak emplacements" was?  I'm not too sure you know what non-linear means when you don't think the Scarab battle that's been talked about isn't a little open ended.

And as for your RAAM comparison (was it ever established why he's called that?), that is way more linear than the talked-about Scarab battle.  Although there are "tactics" you can use, they aren't actually that different from any other one tactic.  Take out the Kryll, then blast 'em.  That's it.

With the Scarab battle you have different ways of killing it.  Legs, inside, underbelly, and undoubtedly more.  Not to mention this all takes place on an immense battle field with a large human station in back (that has turrets and fellow human survivors).

            >I'm not bashing Halo, I'm sure it will be a great game, but saying it isn't linear is blasphemy. It's madness!!

I'm really curious as to what your definition of linear is.  Sorry.  Obviously neither CoD4 or Halo 3 will be totally linear throughout; you'll have choices you can make.  But saying that the Scarab battle is linear is "blasphemy"!

    •  I thought (none / 0)

you barely played CoD2... Also, CoD2 was an emotional game for many of us. There are just so many fucking hilarious memories and I know that is where many of us first met and played with each other (me, zoso, grymm, redchief, and I think even robbins). It's one of those games that you don't really like until you play it for weeks, and then you absolutely love it. I still go back and play it probably almost once a week just for the solid and consistent gameplay.

  •  I don't know (none / 0)

the thing to me is that I honestly believe that I'm going to love both games. I love the Halo story arc and am looking more forward to the completion of the story than anything else.  But I'm really excited about the CoD4 new gameplay and I can honestly say that I've never seen a more beautiful look to a game than what CoD4 looked like.

One thing is for sure, I'm just glad I'm going to have both of these.

  •  maybe the appropriate (none / 0)

word is that i am going to appreciate COD4 more.

BIOSHOCK is just as EPIC as both COD4 and Halo 3 to me. Some of the things i've read in reviews are unbelievable. I mean, guys that have reviewed PC games for 10+ years calling it one of the best games of all time. Seriously hyped. :) Cannot wait to START the fight THIS month. ;)

  •  Ya I'm waaaaaaay pumped (none / 0)

for Bioshock. Cannot wait to play it. I agree with the starting the fight analogy. I'm excited to be starting a brand new story and adventure.

But, again Halo 3 concludes a story I have been following for over almost 4 years. A story I've been playing through, thinking about, playing with friends and then re-playing through. And if Halo is as big and epic as almost every journalist and Bungie are saying, there isn't any reason I'll be playing another game for some time.

Until Mass Effect ships that is- Then I will have my two favorite developers two best games in my hands.

Halo 1 and KOTOR just may be replaced by Halo 3 and Mass Effect.

But until then I'll be bustin' Big Daddy's like crazy!

Some may argue that COD4 is alot more of the same, but its the perks that have gotten me hooked on this game...how will i set up my character will i change my gaming strategy altogether!! its these things that get me excited for cod4 and not halo3...now i am really fuckin jacked for the 4coop but MP halo3 well ill play that til september and thats if it can take me away from bioshock!!!

  •  Right, (none / 0)

Halo MP is Halo MP. The advances made in 3 won't change the DNA of how you play.
Call of Duty is the same way for me-It just seems like Call of Duty 2 meets Rainbow Six Vegas with great graphics.

I'm done dissin' Call of Duty because I love the franchise and will surely love 4. I just prefer Halo.

The biggest point here should be as papi pointed to earlier, that as 360 owners we have the ability to argue which amazing game on our system we like the best.

  •  Speaking of that- (none / 0)

  •  fsda (none / 0)

I want to know when people actually started expecting sequels to be totally different games. I didn't hear many people complain when they found out Mega Man 2 was just like Mega Man 1 only a zillion times better. In video games sequels normally just fix and improve upon things in earlier iterations, while adding new things. God of War 2 wasn't a radicle departure from part 1 yet alot of you still liked that. So I want to know, why is halo 3 being similar to halo 1 and 2 a bad thing? For all we know this could be the Mega Man 2 of the franchise.
  •  I totally see your point (none / 0)

    zoso.

While we all know Halo 3 will undoubtedly sell more than any other game this year, and will likely be a top game of the year candidate, there will be new stories to uncover, new game play to unearth and experiences to hold.

The difference is that I think few games can match Halo, while you are more open to new games. Either way, both games will be awesome, it just all comes down to preference. I just know I am happy to have the ability to throw myself into Madden and Bioshock one month, then experience all that is Halo 3 the next, followed by PGR4 the next month and then capped by Mass Effect and Assassins Creed the next.

My goodness it's good to be a 360 owner!

  •  And do some clean up (none / 0)
