RRoD

Faaaaantastic.
So I know there's been a million or so diaries with the RRoD, but now that I have it, I need to hear all that advice again.  I'm not going to attempt the blanket trick non-sense, so you can just throw that notion right out of your head.  As for what happened...was playing Gears with buds, screen suddenly went black, turned off Xbox, turned on (with controller), 3 flashing red lights.  Turned off, turned on, same thing.  I then called my friend, asked him for advice, he said remove HD, blow on it, put it back in.  Did that, screen would freeze as that ball with the "X" rolls up on screen.  No more red lights, but a frozen screen.  Then I tried starting it without my HD in my Xbox, and the same thing happened.
So, what should I do?  I'm not going to buy another Xbox, so I would really appreciate any help you could give me.  There's some kind of big games coming around the corner, and it would be quite the shame to miss the first few weeks of them...

Well sounds like you better call 1-800-4-myxbox and have them send you a box so you can get another one sent to you, that sucks because you wont have a 360 to play that little game called Halo 3.  Sorry to hear this has happened to you :(

really sorry to hear that, man.

Maybe if you take out all the cables, wait a few minutes, then put them back in?

Or take the hard drive off, let the thing run empty for 15 minutes then start it back up?

check the powercord to see if the little light on the brick is on and green when you turn on your machine.  Other than that, you may as well phone them right away and get started on the process.

The timing couldn't be worse, with this one thing being good, you will get the newest motherboard and will almost certainly have HDMI capability for the future.  Also, since it is a launch machine, you want it to happen sooner than later (before the 3 years are up).  Now, you will have another motherboard that will take you through to the end of this generation with HDMI.

Really sorry to hear that Gacky.  Get the process started.  I don't think there is anything you can do (except maybe a temporary fix which will set you off even worse than if you hadn't waited).

All that is gold does not glitter.

  •  that sucks man, (none / 0)

I've pretty much stopped playing my 360, I'm a little paranoid about the red rings.  Hopefully you can game with some friends who have capable 360s. Good luck with getting it back soon.
  •  That really blows! (none / 0)

Especially with Halo 3 right around the corner.  I would probably panic and have to buy a new one if that happened to me.  Especially right now.

Has anyone had an Elite go RRoD yet?  I'm just praying mine lasts until I at least finish the fight.

  •  I'm in the same boat (none / 0)

I had my 360 die last month and I'm still waiting on it. Most likely it won't be returned on time for Halo 3. Now I might just charge an Elite to my Best Buy card for Monday night.

buy a core 360 and then return it when your other one you got fixed comes in the mail.

    Im "Geared Up" are you?

  •  That stinks (none / 0)

I had it happen to me right before the launch of gears and I went and traded enough games to get me a core system and just attach my hard drive to that and I was back in action. But you got some solid advice in this thread.Hopefully what ever you do gets you back into gaming quickly.

While it does blow major ass, you will at least get something out of it(HDMI). I will pray for the soul of your box and put in a request for you to somehow miraculously recieve your 360 back in the next five days.

That sucks dude. Sorry. Hope you can go find a Minnetonka hottie to take your mind of the RRoD.  ;)
