Called to Duty

What is it about Call of Duty that makes nearly every match the Gearheads play a complete and total blowout?  Seriously, whenever we play Call of Duty 4, one team almost always beats the other team by 300 points or so.  I think there was only one match last night where the teams were only separated by one kill.

The rest of the night it was a blowout.  And I pretty much had the best match of my life on Showdown.  I went 25 kills and only three deaths and got two helicopters and was on the verge of being able to call in a third when the match unceremoniously ended.  For any of you who have played with me, you know that me going 25-3 on one map is pretty much a huge aberration.  I'm usually more like 10-9 or 9-10 or sometimes, depending on how unlucky I get with spawn campers (unintentionally so with Gearheads, I believe), I'll be much worse.  I should've signed off right then and there, but I played three more matches and the results weren't nearly as good.

Any way, we did switch over to Gears for a short while last night and I tried to go into the match with an open mind, but after playing a game when people die when they should, it's hard to change "gears" like that.  I was frustrated as all hell and just said, "I'm done with Gears."  The thing that really gets me is that the two weapons that I probably use the most, the boom and the shotgun are the two most inconsistent weapons in the game.  The boom works when it feels like it and my shotgun has never worked properly (I know, sounds like a private problem, but I'm not ashamed to admit it publicly!).

I had a blast even with the Gears hiccup.  I'm thinking I'm just going to need to wait for the sequel later this year.  In the meantime, I've got COD 4 to keep me company.

By the way, I noticed that almost everyone seems to use a different set of weapons and perks.  I was wondering if you could list your preferences below.

I'm currently in a three-weapon mode.

It's usually this for me:

Weapon: M-16 or AK-47 (usually the M-16)
Perks:  Double Tap and Deep Impact with three special nades

Although I did use the M4 with iron sites a bit last night and I liked that with the iron sites.  I do think that's an amazing thing about this game.  So many people use different weapons and many are successful with whatever weapon and perk they land on.  It's why I think I'm so addicted to it.  I'm kind of obsessed right now to getting up to a level where I have the P90 because no matter what weapon I use the P90 always seems to dominate me.

Oh and most annoying perk?  It used to be martydor for me but I think it's now last stand.

    M16 with 3 grenades, sleight of hand, and your favorite perk (last stand) for hardcore. I'll be perfectly honest and say that this setup is actually pretty unfair. It only takes 1 burst with the M16 and about 2 shots from my pistol to kill someone. There were times when I would get 3-4 kills in last stand. I pretty much continuously switch between about 4 classes for regular tdm, depending on my mood :).

    isnt too bad unless you get caught reloading at the same time the guy goes down, or you shoot the last couple bullets as the guy still has that little invincibility effect going on.

    my favorite setups are:

    MP5 or M16 both with red scope

    • 3 special nades (stun)
    • Slight of hand ( i like this over doubletap)
    • Deep Impact

    Speaking of COD4, i had a pretty frustrating night tonight with it. I kept on catching guys standing still and i would knife them and nothing would happen, then i would get shot. Also, the whole night consisted of long range shotgun one shots and heavy gun fire headshotting me across the map when it is just spray. Either way, i am starting to think there are some balancing issues.

    Also, go see "The Bucket List". Cool movie.

      think that as well, but then I think about it and it really feels like EVERY weapon is overpowered in certain situations. And sleight of hand is a life saver.

        used sleight of hand with my LMG's but as of late I've been seeing alot more players using it in other classes and will say when I have an LMG perk set goin and pick up an assault rifle that reload time is unreal and really allows you to kill back off reload kill back off reload with even blinking!

    I couldn't make it friday night.  My go to setup is
    M16 - red dot sight
    Claymore/3x nades
    Stopping Power
    Deep Impact/Steady Aim

    but since getting my P90 again (on 3rd prestige level now) Ive been using this setup
    P90 Silenced
    Bandolier
    UAV Jammer
    Extreme Conditioning

    I dont know what it is about this setup but I just dominate with this setup (the fact that theres a glitch with the P90 and your sprinting, I can pretty much run across an entire map with extreme conditioning and the P90.  Even if you dont have EC as a perk it still feels like it with that gun.  But we'll be losing that whenever this patch comes into effect) Oh had my best TDM or one of them with this setup on Bloc 41-8 it was pretty hilarious flanking this team of snipers and mowing down 4-5 of them every spawn.  They'd respawn Id reflank!

    my advice is for you not to use double tap, use stopping power with your m-16, and 1 shot or two shots will get someone down

    good at short range. But even if you have the ACOG Scope on it, the recoil on the gun makes it impossible to kill people from a distance.

    I use the SAW, blue cammo (why i don't know)

    Grip, i may go back to red dot.  Since it takes a perk slot up.

    Deep Impact

    Stopping Power.

    I do sometimes use shotgun with Martydom (sp on purp).  and Juggurnaught.

    It i say was way by far the best FFF we had in a while.  

    And to say my 2 almost 3 in a row chainsaw kills in gears wasn't skill, humph.... i'm hurt :-(

    Grymm thanks for the few rounds of GH3 afterwards, i only slept 3 hours that night but it's WAYYY worth it, glad to be back in it.

    Now to catch up on some other games Mass Effect, Kayne And Lynch, SOF - Payback, on and on....

    I didn't make it on Friday night, i ended up being convinced to go out by my friends.

    My two main set ups are

    M16 with red dot and digital camo
    Golden Deagle
    Bandoleer
    Double Tap
    Deep Impack

    Shotgun with grip and blue tiger camo
    Golden Deagle
    UAV jammer
    steady aim

    I am hopelessly addicted to using the shogun.  Theres something so fun about getting right in a guys face and killing him.  I am workinhg my way towards the gold shotgun because i am jealous because my friend has it.

    I hate when people use martyrdom or last stand.

    My two choices are normally the M-16 for medium/long range maps & the MP-5 for close quarters.  My normal perks choices are 3 frag grenades, stopping power, and deep impact.  Stopping power is still useful in Hardcore mode because it still bumps up the damage by a +25% modifier according to Infinity Ward.  The three round burst from the M-16 packs a punch regardless of the burst feature.  The accuracy & range of such a basic rifle makes it a solid choice to putting rounds on the target.  This week's FFF was very fun regardless of the team balancing issues.  You either got onto a team that completely dominated or got dominated.  There was no real "close" game by any means.  Perhaps we can assign teams to make it more balanced?

    Carbine  (distance matches)
    P90  (for close mowin')
    LMG  (for big team battles)
    all with red dot sights
    3 Nades
    Double Tap  
    Last Stand  (with DEagle)
    Martyrdom  (exept on hardcore)
    The only thing I can't stand are the NOOB TUBES, the nade launcher.  That's all those guys use...  You guy's as pissed about nade launchers as I am?  Oh well, it's all part of the game I guess...

  •  I just unlocked a ton of stuff this weekend (none / 0)

    so my weapon choice is in flux right now.  However, I realized that certain disabilities I have, can be compensated for with a good selection of Weapon and perks.  My biggest problem is that I can't shoot on target. My gun sight goes all over the place, so I need more time and more bullets than the average player.

    I switched from the M16 to the M4 for more bullets and I chose Juggernaut to give me more time.  It helped tremendously (though you wouldn't have known it Sunday night).

    Right now, my class is:

    M4 with grenade launcher (I am getting pretty good at launchin' them through windows from across the map - and since I respawn quite often ;) I always have two on hand ha ha ha)
    Juggernaut
    Extreme Conditioning

    Like Blankman, I don't really mind the blowouts.  If I am on the losing side one round, I am often on the winning side, the next.  Also, I used to have my favorite ace players here, but now, everyone is just amazing, so I can no longer predict which side is gonna win.

    It is just a blast playing with everyone and I am always grateful that people make me feel welcome and a part of the team.  It is a solid year now that we have been playing together, but I still count myself lucky to be part of this group - a bunch of frickin' gentlemen bodyguards here.
