All Right, Who is Making These Lists Any Way?

I'm at my brother's house right now, but I was catching up on video game news feeling a bit disconnected out here.  And I checked out Game Trailers and look at this...the top five rankings from Gears of War 1.  This is the top five multiplayer map.  Uh, any list that says that it is ranking the top Gears 1 maps and includes not only Escalation (I actually like Escalation but it isn't close to one of my faves) AND Raven Down yet neglects to mention Fuel Depot and/or Bullet Marsh is a joke.  Plain and simple.

Raven Down is possibly my least favorite map in any game ever.  It's nothing but a shottie fest every time I've ever played it.  The list also includes Tyro Station which is boring most of the time because of the dueling torques.  At least they got Gridlock on there.  And I do actually like Subway.

    trying to watch the 1up show right now on itunes and it isn't working correctly. I got through half of the video and it just started to skip and break. I do agree with that top 5 list though. The majority of those maps were garbage lol.

    Plain & simple.  Raven Down?  Tyro Station?  Escalation?  What kind of bad stuff are they smoking?!?  Absolutely no mention of Fuel Depot, Mansion, or Canals.  Wow.  After I watched that vid, I just shook my head in disbelief.

    Gears is MY Star Wars!!! Wooohhh!!!

    I can't stand, like there are in some other games.  Also, as I am discovering by even your list papi, everyone has their unique favorite list.  Bullet Marsh is my least favorite of the bunch.

    My top five would have been, in no particular order:

    Mansion
    Process
    Subway
    Fuel Depot
    Clocktower

    with the following as close runners up:
    Garden (environmental hazards for the win!)
    Gridlock
    Canals

    The rest are all still great. That is why I was excited to hear that there will be 5 old maps available right out of the box for Gears 2, and that we can probably expect more to become available in the future.

    P.S. Can we expect major spoilers in the Vid (Like stuff beyond Act 1?)  If so, though I have already downloaded it, I will refrain from viewing that part of the 1up show.

      and there aren't any spoilers. They hardly talk about the story at all actually. Just some game play elements and someone mentions about how he thought it was going to be gears 1.5 (stupid). But as far as story elements go there really isn't anything there.

        and yes, anyone who says Gears of War 2 is Gears 1.5 is stupid.  Seriously.  And we are not just talking about graphics, technology, or features (including Horde).  

        The gameplay itself, with stopping power alone, but also with the stun effect of the grenades, the environmental hazards, the gametypes, and the changed and new weapons - Gears 2 will be a very new experience.

        Now, Gears 3, whenever that comes out, will be much harder pressed to not be considered Gears 2.5.  That, I think, is going to be more difficult to defend.  But I don't care.  If they offered Gears 3 for pre-order today, I would be slappin' my plastic down.

          really grown to enjoy it.  Zos gets killed by the train regularly, and the map does have a lot of options.  It is basically the exact same map as Bullet Marsh but with added option of a staircase connecting what would be the Bullet Marsh TB area to the Bullet Marsh Boomshot - and the joy and humor of environmental hazards.  In theory, the Krill should be a factor, in practice, there domain is simply too limited to really become a factor.  I think I have only seen 1 or 2 downs/deaths by Krill.  I see at least that many killed by the train in a single match.  In fact, and I am coming full circle here, I think when Zos is in the room, he alone dies by the train that many times a match. ;)

          And the horn!  Love it!

        I'm not a big fan of Bullet Marsh either.  Don't get me wrong, it's one of the most gorgeous maps in Gears 1 and the environmental hazard (Kryll & electric generator) are a nice addition.  I'm just not crazy with the overall layout of the map.
