Gears at War

Yes, I played Gears of War last night with some of the regulars.  We got Grymm, Robbins, Jambi, Poland, ChrisB, MDK and Abe.  I probably hadn't played Gears with MDK in maybe six months, so that was fun.  And it was most definitely a blast to catch up with the rest of the folks too as my presence on FFF lately hasn't been very consistent of late.

I do think that I possibly had my best kill ever last night.  And that's nearly two years of playing Gears.  Grymm was on the other team in Gridlock and he was running straight through the middle by nades towards our spawn side stairs.  I led him perfectly and blew him to smithereens.  It was pretty.  Very pretty.

Robbins had several sick head shots on me.  Once when MDK told me that the sniper was dead so I stuck my head out like a noob.  That's a pretty dangerous game when Robbins is actually still alive and just waiting for someone to stand there like a dolt asking, "Please de-nogginize me.  Please?"  Robbins was more than happy to oblige.  Oh and ChrisB was a monster last night.  I mean I think he led our team two or three times in points.  The saw was cranking last night.  I enjoyed using the torque quite a few times as well.  I'm best with the Boom, no doubt, but my favorite to use is really the torque.  I love the sweet "thunk" sound someone hears right before they die.  I had at least five of those kills last night.  I just don't often get to pick up the TB because someone on my team is usually better than me with it.  That's going to become a goal of mine to get more skilled with the TB in Gears 2.  Hopefully the bots can help with that.

We then moved to Call of Duty: World at War and my initial impression wasn't good.  David Ellis, who joined us for the COD time, makes an outstanding point on Game Videos about the beta.  The fact is that there doesn't really seem to be a good starting weapon like the M-16A4 in COD4.  You immediately feel like a helpless noob.  I do want to play it a little bit more before I give you my real impressions.  But my initial thought is that I might be canceling my preorder on this one.

Also, I got a chance to try the Resistance 2 beta today and my impression of that isn't necessarily the greatest either.  But I plan a separate post about that one too.

What happened in your Gears FFF games?

it has been a long time since we played together, we need to do it more. It is fun to relax and just play a few with everyone.

  •  The point where (none / 0)

the entire other team was out of the map was completely ridiculous and made me glad that I didn't pre order the game. I got the chance to play the R2 beta before I traded in my PS3 and I have to agree with you that I wasn't all that impressed with it either.

I'm gonna saw me up some of that sex locust.

  •  Random note about the boomshot (none / 0)

I used it twice on friday, I actually like it now cause it works properly. The only thing i noticed though I got a perfect active but it didn't fire 2 shots. Again I'm almost 100% sure we were playing an old build, which was lame.

  •  Sounds like another awesome FFF! (none / 0)

Yes, with RoBBins as an enemy holding the Longshot, you take your life into your hands when you move around at all, anywhere on the map. ...and communication is the secret to success...or having your head popped off.  ha ha ha

    Wish I could've been there.

No surprise about CoD:WAW, not even because it is Treyarch, but just because it is not really new. With all the stuff in the pipeline, canceling that pre-order isn't going to be a decision you will come to regret, I would think.

Thanks again for hosting last night.  It had been so long since we played Gears together, I had a absolute blast last night.  Last night was one of the best FFF I think I have ever had.  I'm with you on the torque bow, I want to use it more in Gears 2 and get really good with it.  That boom kill you had on Gridlock was amazing.  My Wife asked me today if I realized when Gears 2 comes out it will be on a FFF, that is freakin awesome.  I think I'm going to take the day off so I can go to the midnight launch :)

  •  I had my notifications off last night (none / 0)

so I pretty much missed out.  Did get a good chunk of
Dead Space completed though, but still only on Ch.9.  I have to get that finished, maybe go through some of the extra content and then prep for Fallout 3 and LBP.

  •  Got on a bit later (none / 0)

  •  We had a blast on this week's FFF. (none / 0)

Except for the moment where Razor Hanzo tried to kill his own teammate.  He's done this before by trying to melee execute his own teammate.  While another teammate revived the downed partner, Razor stepped back & Boomshot both of them last week.  When he kept gunning for Infidel this week, I nearly had an aneurysm.  LOL

I couldn't get into the room with Papi because I didn't want to leave Razor & the other guys in dust, so I just continued to host a room until Razor eventually took over the hosting duties.  The guys that were in my room all had a blast!  There were plenty of laughs and kills to go around.  BluePhaze had several awesome Boomshot kills.  Average, fresh from meeting up with Boxin and Googles at the Best But in Canada, made an appearance and applied his Halo 3 skills to Gears.  He was nice enough to answer the questions that we had about Gears 2. Machete's connection was doing something wonky, but he was still quite deadly with the Torque and Longshot.  Sweetie and Grymm also joined in on the festivities and handed out some pain as well.  Zos was the leader on practically every game after rejoining the room when Papi shut his room down for the night.

Only 20 days, Gearheads!!!  I can't wait when we can fit two more Gearheads in our FFF rooms!

  •  Fragfest was fun, once again (none / 0)

Mainly, because of the company we all had to play Gears with. The games themselves were almost like a great mystery movie where you were just waiting to see whodunnit. And by whodunnit I mean who's connection would work in each round.

We had some tight- intense matches that kept everyone on the edges of their seats as well. All in all it was a pretty typical fun night of Gears with some awesome guys!

However the highlight of my night came after I had shut down my 'box and my roommate came in demanding we play some Halo. I accepted and we went on to play through matchmaking for almost 3 hours...Each match was even more intense than the last and we were largely successful.  That is until, of course, we lost a game and said "Ok, lets play until we win then we'll go to bed." That was at like 2:30...Then after countless 50-48 and 50-49 losses we let out all our anger on a team winning something like 50-30...at 3:45 AM.
Despite the losing streak I had some serious late night gaming fun!

What a night! Great gaming all around!
