About those Midnight Madness Launches for GOW2

Fri Oct 24, 2008 at 02:19:24 PM EST

I know that I have ask these before while on FFF with my sleepy and very latino accent voice, but I will like to ask again to my fellow GearHeads:

What if in my area there is no MMLE (Midnight Madness Launch Event), will I still be able to get my gold plated gun or do I have to chase it?

I mean as far as I remember someone (I think blankman) told me that the token for the golden gun will be on the box, but I'm keeping reading around that these events are to handle these codes out to the selected few going to the MMLE.

I want that code...... I know is childish, I also know that won't chnage the experience of the gameplay for the awsome game coming out on November the 7th. but I do want to express that it will be very frustating that because the BesbtBuy I chose to preorder the game is not having a MMLE I dont get the code.

I look at the dead plastic eyes of my delta squad in my cubicle and i can see on them they want me to get it (HAHAHAHAHAHA).

So please tell me how can I get one, or who can help me to get it.

Also since I'm a collector of all free swag, is there anything else been given away at this MMLEs???

Not to compare but for Halo 3 I got some shirts, baseball hats, stickers, lanyards, etc...... so even if I can get the code I will try to go or send someone to one of this MMLE to get me say swag items.

Thank you
I'm  awaiting for the last day just like everybody else............

It just very frustrating what's going to happen at this events, I find the link on bestbuy thru the MMLE link for Fallout 3. I visited gearofwar.com and there is almost no info about it only that they are going to be one

  •  LOL. I think everyone is a collector of... (none / 0)

"free" swag, that's why it called swag. :P

Anyways, here's the lowdown; if your local GameStop/EB Games has a minimum of 50 pre-orders of Gears 2, the manager has the option from corporate to participate in the midnight launch.  Those stores that do not have at least 50 pre-orders, it's a moot point to pay overtime to the employees to stay after hours.  The best thing to do is to check with whereever you pre-ordered your game from.  In the case of Best Buy, you can check this thread out to see if your local store is participating in the Midnight Launch: Best Buy Midnight Launch stores

As in regards to the codes for the Golden Lancer and Hammerburst, here's the deal:  The Golden Lancer's code is packed into every LE Gears 2 game box while the Golden Hammerburst's code (exclusive only to GameStop/EB Games) will be given to every person who picks up their pre-order at midnight.  These weapon variations are available to unlock in the actual game, but Epic has not provided any details on how to earn them yet.  I hope all of this helps. :)

    •  So if the Hammerbusrt is exclusive to GS (none / 0)

Is that the same code that BestBuy is going to give away of there is a third gun? Or they just giving away a code for the lancer? (which does not make sense if there is one on the box)

      •  the Gold Hammerburst (none / 0)

is ONLY at Gamestop. Not BestBuy. Therefore, if you pre-ordered at Best Buy, you wont get a code for the gold HB.. just the gold Lancer which comes with the LE.

      •  Ok, Obi... (none / 0)

EVERY Limited Edition Gears of War 2 game will have the d/l code for the Golden Lancer.  This is placed in the box by MS when they packaged it for sale.  In addition, evey NEW retail boxed Gears of War 2, regardless of whether it is LE or Standard edition, will include a d/l code for the Flashback Map Pack.

As far as I know, there is only one promotion at Best Buy.  That promotion is a Remote-Controlled Centaur Tank with a pre-order of the LE Gears of War 2 game.  However, the fine print states that there will only be eight (8) tanks allotted to each physical store.  If you pre-order it on-line, you will receive the RC Centaur Tank.  I hope that clears everything up. :)

still trying to secure one of those tanks for you Blank :)

        •  Yes I got you on that (none / 0)

but on BestBuy webpage it says that the event is to hand out a code for a golden gun........

I'm just wandering if it's the same one as the one in GS.

          •  They're probably talking (none / 0)

about the gold Lancer. Most people that work at Best Buy know absolutely NOTHING about Gears 2 unless they are normal xbox players. (not hardcore gamers.. a step down from that).. people at my Best Buy dont know anything about a midnight release for Gears 2, or even what company is making it (-_-)

          •  Obi, did you place a pre-order thru Best Buy? (none / 0)

Look, Gamestop is the ONLY retailer issuing out codes for ANY Golden Hammerburst.  Regardless of whatever Best Buy has advertised, it doesn't change that fact.  Best Buy isn't always up to speed when it comes to advertising their video game promotions.  They are most likely referring to the Golden Lancer code in the LE Gears 2 game.  The current Gears 2 commercial is even sponsored by GameStop & clearly states that they will issue a code for the Golden Hammerburst at the midnight launches.  I think Robbins and I made it pretty clear.

            •  Yeah I went the BestBuy way.... (none / 0)

couldn't afford the Lancer Replica thru Amazon, so I had to at least try to get the RC Centaur......

And as you say, it may be that BestBuy is posting inaccurate information and that's the reason behind my Diary, I just wanted to clarify that, because they to have that noted on their website, I knew about the code for the lancer and the maps (you told me a few weeks back), I didn't know about the GS Hammberbusrt code (I know now), and I know as well that there is a big chance that BestBuy is just releasing inaccurate info but what better place to check that in my community....

  •  Gamestop (none / 0)

At my local Gamestop they have a card board cut out of Marcus holding COG tags, but sadly some punk stole the COG tags. I went up to the guy working at the counter and asked him what they do with the cardboard thing after the game comes out and he says to me that the employees can take them home in this real arrogant voice, then he says, " I see that you don't work here, so it looks like you won't be getting one." Good thing there are two Gamestops in the mall because I'm never going back to that one again.
