Gears 2 Ranking System

I have watched alot of the Gears 2 multiplayer videos and noticed ranks to the left of the players name. Does anyone have info about anything about the rankings? (I dont know if this deserves a diary but i flipped a coin and heads said it got a diary) There are no achievements for them so i hope that they are like the Call of Duty 4 ranks. If you have any info please tell.

i really don't like COD's ranking system. Its far to easy to rank up. I hope its like halo's

  the reason i like it is because the prestiging. i didnt think about halo's, but your right halo's would fit gears alot better than CoD's

    me it just seems perfect. Its challenging to get your rank up, but at the same time it takes a lot to get your rank down.
