Finished Fable 2 - Final thoughts / Votes

Wed Oct 29, 2008 at 10:50:28 AM EST

It was not a perfect game.  Many Glitches for me (How many different ways do I need to approach something and hit "A" before it actually "clicks in"??..

I did enjoy it for what it was.  Never played a game like this.

Good Battle sequences (Used a lot of Raise Dead to distract the enemies).  And the Dog.

And the other night Blankman popped in my room.  We chatted for a while and then he game me a Ton of Gold.

SweetTea came by later (He must not have had a Mic on), so I gave him a Stinky Piece of Cheese.  He gave me a piece of Coal.  lol..

It was a nice Diversion while waiting for Nov 6th.  Surprised that I actually finished it.  It still has some nice re-playability (after the Final Quest), For example, I got enough gold that I bought the Fairfax Castle.

lol..  I was in the Castle Master Suite, getting ready to get it on with one of the ladies that followed me in.  Just before the "Magic" moment, the butler runs in and tells me that bandits are raiding my New Castle.  Next thing I know, the bandits are in my bedroom and the proceed to kill my lady friend.  Oh well...

I give it an 8 out of 10.  Good game, but too many little issues

  •  Im actually putting up a review later so (none / 0)

    I'll post my impressions!

But I have absolutely loved it so far.

  •  I'm close to finishing the game. (none / 0)

I absolutely dig Fable 2!  As Kenai has already stated, there are many bugs that still exist in the game.  Although they are minor distractions to your full enjoyment, it's not a deal breaker.  Lionhead Studios is already hard at work on releasing a patch addressing these bugs.  The sword play is very similar to that of Assassin's Creed.  In fact, I relayed this to Papi the other night since he loved AC.  Zos and I were chatting on XBL last night while I was playing Fable 2 and he was playing Fallout 3.  The both of us don't understand what some gamers' criticism of the graphical fidelity of the game.  The art style is awesome and it's just oozing with what you would typically expect from the fantasy genre.

The game is lengthy if you choose to partake in the side quests, earning money from jobs, purchasing real estate, establishing relationships with town people, etc.  Like Fable 1, Fable 2 doesn't necessarily force you to participate in these extracurricular aspects.  You essentially decide how long you want your game to be.  I'm having a blast and it was awesome to run into Kenai & drop him some coin.  Hopefully, he put it to good use by investing in a few pieces of real estate or some nice weaponry.  I'd give this game a solid 8.5/10 without any reservation.  If Lionhead does work out the bugs, I'd probably give it a even higher score.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll have it out soon.  Either way, I'm hanging onto this game to start it over again in '09 with a totally brand new character.  :)

    •  I would consider keeping it (none / 0)

IF they had more downloadable content coming.  And Bug patches..  And (most important) a better update for Xbox live Co-op.  As it is right now, Co-op is full of bugs(i'm told) and you can't even bring your character in from your world (you play as a generic henchman) when in someone else s game.

      •  As for DLC, I'm sure its coming... (none / 0)

and as for co-op, that's disappointing

      •  Hench Man reporting sir! (none / 0)

I actually like being a henchman for other gamers world... I am free to do whatever I want, collect gold, treasure, exp... and not have it affect where I am in my story line in my personal world, So I can jump into other players games, spend a few hours battling bad guys, beef up my character, and then go back to my world with my new skills and powers intact to finish tackling whatever quest I am on.

I treat other peoples games as side quests, which honestly makes it fun for me. I can explore and fight a bunch and find out things before I make mistakes in my own game.

        •  Ahhh I get it now! (none / 0)

Ok, that's fine with me! The only down-side here is cosmetic, so no big deal.

          •  Also... (none / 0)

I think this will be a blast in terms of keeping on going once you have finished the story, you can continue playing, and it would be fun to go into freinds worlds, see what they have done in the world and to go on quests with them in their world. Kinda nice. Once you complete the story, random stuff just seems to start happening, you can always go find more bad guys to kill!

    •  I'd have to slightly disagree with the combat (none / 0)

being similar to AC, aside from the obvious powers and guns, the countering doesn't really work well at all, and the blocking really should have been set to another button other than your attack button.

Also I found the game extremely easy, maybe because I had done so many side quests and my character was souped up enough to own almost anything. I had a Masters Mace (or whatever the highest one is) and all I did was flourish attack everything, and when doing that it initiated the slow-mo quite a bit and it was easy to line up the next guy and own him too.

The melee combat though, is partially overshadowed by the guns and will powers, they're just much more effective. Having a master pistol and a decent speed stat, you can 2 shot and decapitate almost every bad guy in the game. And with a level 5 spell, you can clear the screen (which usually leads to a framerate drop lol, I actually killed a banshee this way in one spell because the little guys were close to me and died first)

Also, Im not a fan of anticlimactic endings. Not to ruin anything for anyone, but it didnt do much for me. Honestly, if you look up in the dictionary "anticlimactic" It should say Fable 2. But I guess that comes from my earlier complaint of a relatively weak story. Also, the dog? I dunno, I like dogs and all (I have 2) I wasn't as attached or really cared about it as say...Alex in Half life 2. The dog just wasnt involved enough in the story for me to really give a damn. If Fable 2 had Fable 1's story and presentation, more sidequests, and maybe more spells (did anyone else feel kind of limited for a game with "freedom of choice") I think i would have enjoyed it a little more. Its a solid rent that I wouldnt mind paying late fees for.

I'd honestly give it a 7.5/10 maybe an 8 just because theres man whores and potential for lesbian sex. And STD's. lol
