Interesting theory about Myrahh, the Locust Queen

Fri Oct 03, 2008 at 12:23:37 PM EST

While persuing through the official Epic Gears forums, I came across an interesting theory by one of the posters, UGotTorqued.  Here's what the poster wrote: "I searched and couldn't find anyone else bringing up this theory. Could the Locust Queen be one of those children that was stolen by the Locusts?  Could that be why the female voice represented for her sounds more human than locust.  Could it be that she now leads the locust in the takeover of Sera out of her scorn and spite for the humans never attempting to find her or save her???  What does everyone think?  This link between the Enemies vidoc of children stolen and the first Gears comic must come into play in the game some way, right?  Why not the Locust Queen?"

This is an interesting theory because the last two Developer's Diary Vids place an emphasis of the "Boogeyman" urban legend as it pertains to Sera.  In fact, there are several times that Epic has included the "Are you afraid of the dark?" and "Boogeyman" references in Gears 1's trailer and game.  As the forum poster has already mentioned, the upcoming Gears comic series by Joshua Ortega and Liam Sharp actually opens with the scene of the Locust stealing children at night.  In addition, the voice of the Locust Queen is very "human" instead of the guttural utterances that we have heard from numerous Locust types.  Could the Locust Queen actually be a human?  It's definitely possible.  I'm very curious to hear what you guys and gals think about this.

  •  Wow, very creative theory! (none / 0)

I like it. This certainly could fit...What if there was a Moses complex? I don't think this fits because the Locust queen could care less about humans, but what if the child grew up in royalty, rose to the top and now could, if she wanted save humanity? Just like Moses, there may be an Exodus...Gears 3: Exodus. =P

    Cool stuff!

but why would this child be chosen over any of the others instead of being made slaves or whatever they decide to do with children down there.
  •  That's right! (none / 0)

The first Trailer for Gears 1 there's that little kid, I think it was a girl, that said "Are you afraid..." and then Marcus with his cleanly shaved face says, "... of the dark?" So I'm guessing it's safe to assume that it may be a human girl as the Locust Queen. Maybe she helped them with their involving of using Immulsion in different ways, such as the Torque Bow being Immulsion-Tipped and the Wretches that are Explosive when exposed to it. And maybe she helped them with some tactics and battle strategies that some of the Humans used.

This all of course ties in with what you said Blank, replying to Boxin's post.

  •  VERY interesting theory. (none / 0)

The only thing I can think of that speaks directly against it is the fact that Cliff made it very clear that the Locust just want to kill humans.  He was asked about the Stranded, and he said, no, the Locust wouldn't want to use them in any way, just destroy them.  Now, that was about "adults". Maybe it is different for the little children!  And yes, I was wondering about this emphasis in the recent viddocs about the "boogyman".

Awesome idea!  Bring UGotTorqued over here!

Maybe she is going to ultimately help the COG?

    Maybe she has Maria?

  •  Or she could be an ultra intelligent locust (none / 0)

who controls the rest of the locusts with tendrils of thoughts. They are just extensions of her body, like the buggers in Ender's Game and Xenocide
  •  I remember reading two theories about this... (none / 0)

In short of what I read...

    1. Maria could be the locust leader Myrah...the names sound very similar...and you know shes alive but shes always moving around.

    2. Myrah could be Marcus' mom...Marcus' dad was a scientist with maps of all the tunnels. He seems to have a close link to the locust as in the game you head back to his house. Could he have been looking for his wife??

My opinion...Myrah sounds british so not too sure about Maria being her.

A lot of people think she was the female scientist who discovered Imulsion.
  •  makes sense (none / 0)
