First off, credit goes to MDK for finding this GEM of an article. Not often that I really, REALLY get a kick out of the "creative" writing in games "journalism", but this is top drawer stuff. Awesome find, MDK! I have dedicated an entire diary to it because I know that you can't publish one yourself. It deserves its own diary, even if no one wants to comment on it.

All of it is true, every last word of the article.

I say this because i believe i witnessed all of them.

Especially the one about the mortar, when someone pulled the trigger and fired from underneath the overhang on Day One and killed himself instantly. Someone doesn't know how a mortar works, thing goes up and then falls down, not the other way around.

This game is going to give me a lot of trouble in deciding which mode to play. Most likely campaign, then whatever we plan to do do on FFF GOW2 Premiere. I know Horde will be exclusively between friends. I can imagine the whining from the masses.

Okay... I think this is important..

In Gears 1, we never really specified where our orientation was... Meaning, that we didn't know North, South, East and West. So when someone would say "Look on your right!!" we didn't know what they were talking about most of the time.

So what if in Gears 2,, we pick a key location on each map and designate that to be North. Then on Pavilion for example, we would pick the... Oh I don't remember the map, but let's say that it is the Fountain. "The fountain is North" If we remembered that, over time we would know on each map what the North feature is, so then when we say during Hoard or Submission... "Coming from the South!", we would know compared to the designated "North feature", when South would be. Does this make sense?!

We could even have Airiel screen shots of each map with the North feature notated. Eventually, over time... We would have much better communication (I think..) because "left or right" wouldn't be an issue, we would know East.. And immediately, we would all know where to start laying down some Fire!

What do you think? Can we add this to our strategic planning... ;0

  I was amazed, even as recent as a few weeks ago to hear someone say on Canals "On the left". Yeah, that kind of communication is maybe not better than none, because it tells the gamers nothing but distracts the entire team. I think it was amato or Machete who taught me the terms "high side" and "low side" for Canals. To that point, I had used "Tree Side" and "Open Side", but there is absolutely no ambiguity with "high". It is also only one syllable. blah blah blah.
  
  I found the article I wrote a long time ago for Masters Few. It was a printed copy, but I have scanned and OCRed it. I am just updating it, but would love to publish it on Gearheads, just before Gears 2 hits they shelves. Kenny and I actually published a similar article a while back, but there were some points I had forgotten and we kind of rushed it. In any case, this kind of stuff needs repeating. It is so easy to get tired/lazy and say nothing as soon as the round starts.
  
  Finally, as Boxin mentioned, with the screenshot feature, it is going to be a cinch to label the maps and discuss choke points and strategies. Regardless of who is officially in charge of this, I will be digging into this stuff, right up to my elbows. It is something I can do easily even when away from the 360 or computer. Yes! Hey, I want to publish a whole series of diaries on maps/labels/communication and strats.
  
  Hey Sweetie! Consider this something I would like to take on! If anyone else wants in, just let me know. Of course, the diaries themselves would be set up so that we could evolve the maps and labels, and the initial post will be for the sole purpose of generating input and feedback.

    I remember that we didn't get quite the response that we were hoping for when we released that Communication diary. Perhaps now that the Horde mode has been announced, people will be more receptive to working as a cohesive team. Communication is one of the fundamentals of tactical success.

    is myself, often times I'll get into an intense battle with someone or two, and end up trailing off and not being able to talk 'cause Im concentrating so hard, thats why I like having people like blankman on my team, who call things out even when I can't.

    I would love to get a 'Bird's Eye' view of the map and make a key of chokepoints and hotspots, and then make strategies from it. Count me in.
