I bid you adieu.

Fri Nov 21, 2008 at 01:05:54 AM EST

Of course it was bound to happen again, my Xbox bit the dust, no big deal.

I thought that anyway. Tomorrow marks the 3 year anniversary of Microsoft's ridiculously faulty video game console and also the expiration of the warranty. Gears 2 is a great game, I love it, but honestly I just don't care as much for video games as I used to. Not only is it my senior year in high school and I have a lot more freedom now that I have a car and a flow of cash. I'd hate to say it, but I may have grown out of video games. Ever since I was 4 I've played video games. Hell, the first game my dad bought me was Doom for the Sega Genesis. Games just aren't appealing to me as they were before and now that my Xbox is trash, I don't feel the desire to replace it anymore. I'm sick of it.

So with that, I plan on leaving behind my 360. It has caused way too many problems and the amount of discs it has broken isn't worth it now. I won't be quitting games for good though. I'll still try to get on occasionally (my brother has an Xbox) and I'll still try to participate in Gearhead shenaniganry, but no longer will I play Xbox like I used to.

It's time to close this dryer. The t-shirts are done.

Sincerely, Joey Leen

  •  See you back in like a few months (none / 0)

    Great ending though! lol

Your sense of "freedom" will be gone in a year or two anyway. Where the only thing you can afford is sitting on your ass at home playing videogames.

Or walking/breathing which is a fun alternative but gets old.

So like i said, see you soon.

You haven't matured out of games, you are just in that awkward stage between gamer stances.

    Much love.

It's all cyclical. I did the same thing. But like a heroin addict, you keep coming back.

I've known a few people who've died from Heroin.

People have died in society from everything including sex, drinking, driving, slipping etc.

As much as it can be a touchy subject for you, you cannot blame other people for mentioning it.

Like walking on eggshells with sometimes. You think you're the only person who's lost someone? Sorry man, no offense intended. But the way you act sometimes, it's like you have a chip on your shoulder looking for a fight. Sorry, but relax. Totally taken out of context.

          •  Dude, (none / 0)

of course I have a chip on my shoulder. Obviously you don't know this, but our High School's referred to as Heroin High. Now with that AND the fact of losing several to that, I just thought that you didn't need to say what you said. It was inappropriate. Obviously I'm not the only one who needs to chill. I just said that you shouldn't have said that, in a calm way. I didn't curse at all or anything. Jesus.

            •  That kind of attitude... (none / 0)

is exactly what's wrong here. Honestly, words are beyond me because I'm so flabbergasted. Seriously? You're calling me out because I offended you on something so trivial? You've said a thing or two in the past that's offended me. But you know what? I let it slide.

              Grow up.

Just because I said not to say that (which I'm shocked that you are making a big deal about cracking jokes about death about drugs) again IN a calm way you're gonna tell me to grow up? I'm sorry. I'm sorry I'm not like you tyrus. You know what? Next time someone starts cracking jokes about ODing I'll just sit there and say nothing for your sake. Seriously. I really can't believe this. All I said was "Don't say that again." and "I'd prefer if that wasn't mentioned again." and you guys are gonna tell me to calm down. Great job there!

Like Zos said, "As much as it can be a touchy subject for you, you cannot blame other people for mentioning it."

I can understand if I were being racist or something more mainstream. But how was I supposed to know?

As I stated, there's been things you've said that have offended me. So have statements made by other members. But like anything in life, you need to COMPROMISE and at times, let things slide. If you go through life telling people what to do, you're going to be a very lonely man.

That whole bit about letting things slide pertains to personal relationships and being a member of this community. I won't deliberately say such a thing again. Like I said, I was SORRY. But what pisses me off more than anything is that I'm the one acting like the bigger man here when you were clearly in the wrong. Your statement set the tone for our whole "colorful" conversation. How else did you expect me to reply?

I hope this ends the flame-war because I'd rather devote my energies to things more important, like curing world hunger or killing more locust scum.

                  •  Dude, I'm 16 years old (none / 0)

and you want me to be a like full-grown adult. As much as I would like to be as mature as I can, there's not much I can do. I'm still a teenager. And so much for your 'letting things slide' because I was more than fine at leaving this as it is after Zos, posted the chill pill, but I guess you couldn't resist, huh? And I don't need to worry about being alone in my life. Ever. So that's not even in my mind. And don't even put this whole arguement on me. That's just ridiculous on your part. Obviously I'm gonna react like I did because it is a touchy subject. And I even put enough trust to explain my situation, but yet, you apologize, and then turn to 'attack' me in a way. You coulda just left it at, "Sorry man I didn't know all that." AND JUST LEFT IT AT THAT. And I would've been MORE than happy to accept your apology. But no, you had to go on and give me a lecture on how I shouldn't act. So it wasn't just all me there, buddy.

You'll be back again.  Life sometimes gets in the way and other things take precedence.  Even for years at a time.  There was a long time between my playstation 1 and the time I finally picked up gaming again with the dreamcast.

Regardless, take care of yourself and have fun doing what you wacky teens do in those great years.

    •  Same here papi (none / 0)

Yeah, i went through the same thing when i was in Senior Year of High School in 97, I just didnt have time for games, i was working, getting ready for college, i had the ps1 and N64 (goldeneye really).

Second year of college i just slowed down with the games, school was more important, i always did the occasional quake 1, return to castle wolfenstein, starcraft but not like before with games. Then i think what got me back was the God of War games, right before 2 was going to come out i got the PS2 slimline one. i only played a few games here and there but i came back slowly, i think i play more now than i did those past 8 years or so that i was on hiatus.

Point being, take your time, the games will always be there for you. The nostalgia will kick in and then you will come back. I give till the xbox 4 comes out, well see.

  •  Gaming will always be in your blood. (none / 0)

Like many of the guys that have written so far, I trust that you'll be back.  Gaming is part of our DNA, you can't simply switch it off.  I appreciate the fact that you're getting out their and socializing with friends and enjoying your senior year of high school.  You only get that once in a lifetime, so by all means- create some memories!  It's great to hear that you have the transportation and financial means, Joey.  More power to you, bro!  However, I think that your recent declaration of leaving is also being influenced by your frustration at the console hardware.  I can speak from experience that you're going through a stage where gaming is placed on a backburner.  Whether it's months or years from now, we really hope to grab some games with you again.  Life is too short, enjoy life! :)

  •  Good luck (none / 0)

in the future, if you make it back you'll have even more accepting you with open arms.  From what I've seen over the years is, now that gaming is being recognized mainstream people arent so hesitant to show their love  and play what is only for the "kids".  Either way goodluck and if we see you we see you, if we dont well we'll be here popping heads! But growing out of video games doesnt happen, you'll realize that soon! ;)

    •  Yup... (none / 0)

It's like crack.  You'll start to crave it.  It'll be subtle at first.  Then the voices get stronger.  Soon it over powers your every thought.  Then, you start to walk around public places, and get that urge to pull out your gattling gun, or rocket launcher, if only to see what kind of achievements you'll earn.  Such as how many cars you can blow up in any given time frame.  Or, an achievement for picking up that hot blonde working at the McDonalds across the street.  Then it starts to take over your dreams.  No longer do you dream about that threesome with those sexy twins in Chem class.  Now you dream about your house falling into a sink hole.  All that you have is your trusty Lancer.  And you run around cutting monsters from crotch to shoulder, while still in your underwear.  Then performing a motivational speech in front of the world, stating that these monsters must DIE and humanity must SURVIVE, only to realize that you are completely NAKED in front of millions of peering eyes...  Dude...  Dude...  You'll be back, OH YES!!!  You WILL be back....

  •  Funny thing... (none / 0)

Fallout 3 works like a dream on my Xbox. I've devoted a good amount of my free time to playing it.

Gears 2 and CoD:WaW are completely fucked though. I don't think my Xbox will be able to online games. I'm gonna try to see if I can get around this by....

-Purchasing one of those Nyko Fans

-Downloading the online games onto my HD (I heard it brings down the noise in the Xbox a bunch too)

-If all else fails, throw a bag of ice onto it.

If those don't work then I don't know what I'll do. Probably wait for the next gen before I get back into console gaming. Thanks for the comments, I didn't expect so many and I'm sorry this sparked a touchy subject. Maine is the state with the highest prescription drug abuse apparently, although I don't really hear to much about it in my school.
