Frag Fest Weekend: Gears 2 Curbstomps L4D (FFF re-cap)

Zoso and Infidel creeping up on the Beastless Rider

I got on rather late and had to leave early, so I don't have a lot to remember or recap for Friday.  Let me just say this though.

I think it is HILARIOUS that when I jumped into the almost full room, Infidel was hosting.  This is the same Infidel with the same connection that everyone was screaming about (including me) for Gears 1. It is a testament to how much Epic improved the netcoding.  Of course, I was freaking out, because for me (Japan), it was so bad, I was having a flashback to N64 Goldeneye days.  Literally, it appeared as superbad framerate issues.  Since I have only spent a couple of hours with multiplayer, I didn't know if that is the way it always is, or if it was just me lack of skillz and somehow diminished perception.  I couldn't believe my ears when everyone calmly told me that Infidel was hosting.

Anyway, after him, Kenai hosted, and then eventually Blankman.  All good stuff, guys!  Thanks!

Saturday was filled with Dirty, dirty horde.  I came on and the fellas were on level 28 Avalanche.  We were grinded to a halt there.  We switched to Blood Drive and would have carried that sucker all the way home, had it not been for the disconnects and RRoDs.  As it was, we got to L47.  Thanks to Grymm and Kenai for listening in on our very heated, but somewhat entertaining (if I do say so myself) live broadcast.  Cheers!

So, what are your stories of weekend game frolicking?

The Beastless Rider

One Man Army but only one shell left.

After the one shell was spent.  Most hilarious shottie liquidation of any Locust.  Ever.

  •  the shotty kill was the funniest kill i have ever (none / 0)

    gotten.

You guys have to realize, i was sitting there shitting my pants while everyone spectated for a pretty long time.

I had one bullet of shotty left, and a single shot from them would kill me. And on 40+ insane horde, they DON'T miss.

I finally just screamed, scooted over real quick crouched, popped up and blindfired a single shot gibbing the deadliest locust. LOL

ROFL, LMAO, LOLZ were all had for a good amount of time.

    But it gets better.

After the highest point in my gears of war gaming experience, i went to pick up the freshly dead locusts ammo to kill the other two remaining and EVEN THOUGH THE AMMO ICON WAS SHOWING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN i kicked the shield down and the both charged in.

In only seconds, it was over.

From the highest highs, to the lowest lows. This is the best game ever made, and Horde is my favorite addition to the gears universe.

I went to a Gears lock in and played from 9-5 only pausing a couple of times. My friend and I made it to wave 37 in horde all by ourselves.

  •  I am so glad that I was part of that... (none / 0)

experience!  Definitely gut busting laughter!!!  When you completely demolished that Cyclops Locust, the room went hysterical.  Man, we would have carried the torch all the way home it it hadn't been for the lack of ammo.  The setup on the shields was absolutely perfect.  Oh well, we can take it home during the long Thanksgiving weekend.  We're about to bring down another map, Gearheads!

  •  short but sweet nite for me (none / 0)

i had the best kill (personally) on subway
i was at nades and zoso was coming up spawn stairs and positioned behind the vehicle, his foot was visible under  the car, i torqued it and got  the kill, swwwweeeeetttttt.

really would like a map of sera so i can visualize the landscape like i can with tolkein's middle earth or brook's shannara
im half way through aspho fields and realized there is no map in the book!??!!

aspho is great so far, you really get a lot backstory  and fill in. travis carrys two stories lines through the book and thusfar i am enjoying it.
plenty of character development and important history
ex: hoffman's not the asshole i thought he was and has regrets

epic can go in so many directions with sera (through print and game) if they so choose and i hope they do.

IT SHOULD BE COMPULSORY READING FOR ALL GEARHEADS.

...and then it came to pass and rock and roll was born

    •  Exact sentiments of Traviss' book. (none / 0)

I read that in three days.  There's so much back story and character development that you get to know the characters right before you play Gears 2.  Even if you're not a Gears fan, the science fiction is awesome in its own right.  My wife has read the Halo novels after I finished them and has just picked up Aspho Fields.  I like the fact that she gets to know what interest me.  Man, they broke the mold on her. :)
