The Anticipation Rises-What are your plans?

Thu Nov 06, 2008 at 12:28:54 PM EST

Ladies and Gentlegears, the day is here!

In just HOURS we will be standing in line, waiting for Gear of War 2. Heck, some GearHeads are playing it RIGHT NOW! Like all of you, I am giddy in anticipation and can't wait to get my hands on the game tonight.

As these hours will seem like days as we wait for the game to launch, use this story to chat with fellow GearHeads about what you'll be doing tonight. Going to a big event? Participating in a tournament? Let us know!

Also, for those of you who can post on GearHeads via your phone or your laptop while in line, let's use this to chat it up as we wait!

I'll be sending updates to my Twitter as well if you all want something interesting to read while you wait. =)

http://twitter.com/SweetTea023

Also, AOL is premeiring the Gears 2 soundtrack to listen to online! Haven't tried it yet but if it works, we can listen to the Gears 2 soundtrack while we wait, online!

Just hours now, GearHeads! HOUUUUUUURSSS!

  •  Gears (none / 0)

Last night I played Horde and David, Texastrap, Grymm and Machete.

    What fun!

We were dominating on Horde (normal difficulty).  We stopped after level 11 to play MP with Zoso.

Texas left and then five of us played as a team in Ranked.  Wow!  We had too much fun.  First we dominated.  Second, we dominated so much that Grymm, Zoso and Machete were all arguing about who got the final chainsaw kill (because all three were simulataneously chainsawing the same guy).

I was just Lost most of the time.  These maps seem much bigger.  Maybe its because I've only played them once....

Can't play tonight (Taking my wife out for her birthday).  But, FFF is so close!

Freaking accordions and the whole bit! You should hear him when he starts yodeling to get the crowd going. ;)

          •  Yes, I do indeed spin polka (none / 0)

In Austin, on 6th street... There's nothing the U.T. crowd likes more than the chicken dance song.
Waddle, waddle, waddle, waddle, flap, flap, flap, flap!!!

The bar I work at has a back room where everyone goes to hook up during the last hour and half so I have to play like top 40 and hip hopish ghetto stuff, cause girls in austin only know the butt to male pelvis move, which I can't complain about.

I usually throw in some mash-up/remixes, some old school hip hop and some top 40 motown/funk to keep sane. At house parties and such I usually mix house music of french persuasion and hip hop... and polka.

            •  Sounds like some (none / 0)

fun shit.  Im a big house junky, a lil trance and if the mood is right you can throw in some subtle DnB.  I would love to get into spinning but I dont have the money or patience.  One day maybe

              •  It's actually (none / 0)

realllllllly easy. I wouldn't start out with turn tables, they're kinda like a vanity thing. There are alot of austin djs who use them but don't know the first thing about beat or key matching.

Turn tables are fun, it's a more interactive way to dj, but you should just start out with a computer program like Traktor or Virtual DJ, learn it, then add an external mixer, then add headphones. If you still like it and want to drop the money it's going to cost to get some turntables, a program like Serato and a new mixer. They're also a complete pain in the ass to lug around if the club your playing at doesn't already have the equipment. The hard part is actually getting a job at a bar.

  •  A little peice of info (none / 0)

Played in a game with people from mexico, france, and europe in general.

NO bullet lag, no lag at all actually!

And the games that i have experienced lag... no bullet lag. Its the same lag seen in every other game.

Thats right, as of now GOW2 is completely fixed.

That hopefully won't change when 3000 people online changes to hundreds of thousands.

I will check out your twitter.

BTW. OMG campaign is AMAZING. I think you will love it especially sweety. The scale and story are awesome :)

    •  Question. (none / 0)

Were you the host?  Can you tell who is the host?  Do they have any indicators?

Also, about that "30% improvement" that Cliff mentioned.  I think he was talking in very concrete terms, that there is actually a 30% decrease in data being exchanged, and even that may be completely without considering the offloading of the voice data.  A thirty percent decrease in data hit detection/object tracking data, along with voice being taken care of by a different host, makes for huge networking differences.  (Far better than just a 30% percent more smooth experience.)

These are the guys that made UT, for crying out loud.  They know their stuff.  Maybe we are just getting to see it now in Gears 2.

Regardless of all the details, that is excellent news, Zoso!

Sounds like our prayers have been answered!

I appreciate the info, zos. Definitely glad to hear you think I'll enjoy the campaign. Perhaps we hit up co-op from the beginning tomorrow on insane or something?

      ONLY A FEW MORE HOURS!

      •  Sweety, (none / 0)

don't underestimate the difficulty. Insane is NOTHING like Gears1. Hell, Hardcore isn't even like Hardcore in Gears1, I'd say it's more like Insane.

With a couple of you guys and unfortunately my voice chat does not work in Gears 2.. well not until the 17th at least... sucks but just don't take it personal if I don't respond to you in game. I am talking, you just can't hear me.

  •  I'll (none / 0)

be waiting in line at my local GameStop.  I think they are doing a tourney but the guy working there wasn't sure last week when I was in there to pay my LE off.  I will have my BlackBerry and will be posting on twitter.  Maybe even send some pics to my facebook of the line and whatnot.  Can't wait to get on and play the SP then try some MP with you guys.  I'm so excited, I told my Wife it feels like Christmas morning for me LOL :)

  •  dude i feel ya (none / 0)

  •  this is retarded... (none / 0)

so the EB near my house is so dumb, they were doing a midnight release, and then switched to a early morning release because they didnt get enough pre-orders, then i get a call today saying they ARE having a midnight release now, and i can't get a code, I tried telling the guy I took a shift at work cause there was no midnight release, and he says theres only like 10 codes so I probably wont get one. I hate the EB here.

Lol if anyone somehow gets an extra code or figures out how to get the golden guns, lemme know I want them :P

  •  My plans and new member (none / 0)

What's up guys? 6 HOURS AWAY!!! Im gonna take a nap, pick up some booze for tonight and some redbull for tomorrow at work, picking up at around 12:30, and playing the junk out of this game til i fall into a coma. I probably wouldn't bother normally but I'm heading out of town tomorrow so I won't get to play all weekend.

In other news, a very good friend of mine for 10+ years is joining the ranks of the Gearheads. His SN on here is achase4u and his GT is Mister Chase. He's a good shit and a blast to game with so I suggest that everyone add him who has room. In fact, I'll be taking on the locusts with him tonight. He would have posted himself but he just signed up on the site today and it won't let him for some reason.

Anywho, looking forward to playing with you crazy dick knuckles.

  •  It's (none / 0)

6:30PM eastern here in Ohio and my niece was by the GameStop I'm picking my copy of Gears 2 at and she told me there is already 4 people waiting outside sitting in lawn chairs.  I was planning on getting there around 10, I don't want to wait THAT long LOL.

    •  Star Wars started that trend. (none / 0)

People like waiting in line.  Like they are paying service, homage, to their favorite thing.  It is kind of funny, and cool, and stupid all at the same time.

    •  Funny story regarding that actually- (none / 0)

When the Xbox 360 launched, I stood in line for like 6 hours. Right at 11:59 this guy in a nice leather Bulls jacket pulled up in a nice car and gave the guy ahead of me $100 JUST FOR HIS SPOT IN LINE. In cash. He then paid for the 360 in cash as well. The wad of cash took him two hands to hold!

All the while his wife was yelling at him from outside for leaving the house and spending the money.(The wal mart people wouldn't let anyone else in)

It was obvious he was a drug dealer ;)

      Great memory!

  •  So I'm just waiting to leave here in ROTC... (none / 0)
