Wow! Just wow! I got to play with a couple gearheads here and there yesterday but not that much due to everytime someone sent me an invite their party was full before I could get in. But the most amazing thing happened! My wife said those magic words... I want to try!
Now my wife is no stranger to shooters... some of you might be amazed to learn that my wife and I were big Quake 3 Arena players back in the day. She has also had good time rolling with me in G.R.A.W. and G.R.A.W. 2 and kicks substantial ass!
But she had never played gears and admitted to me that it was the chainsaw that kinda creeped her out about the game. So when she showed interest I figured the best way to get her used to the controls was to do a couple wingman bot matches against 1 team of bots on casual.
She was very frustrated at first with the movement.. that part will come with time. But she had a blast and once she got used to cover and the flow of Gears she was having fun. So after about 4 bot matches she said she wanted to do some online play. So we jumped into a few warzone and execution public matches. She was a bit hesitant at first since she was new and didn't want to be laughed at. But after a few rounds she actually started leading out team in score! We won, and she was the top score for the game during one of the matches! Awesome. Then our son woke up so she stopped playing to take care of him for a bit. So I switched to the some online public Horde. I played about 4 games and she watched. I will admit that I am rusty with Gears in general but last night prior to jumping into Horde I was SUCKTASTIC! I was consistantly the lowest scorer on my team in many matches even though I was the highest ranked.
But after doing about four games of Horde, I went back to wingman and warzone/execution and FREAKING OWNED! There were multiple times where I was the last man and Ran through the entire opposing team by myself! A good couple games of Horde really gets you in the zone, makes handling just 5 players seem easy!
But back to my main point! Watching me play Horde and Carry my team, and then the improvement it made in my playing when I went back to other game types made my wife say some more magic words! She said, "Wow, I want to play horde mode! I think every night before we play the other matches, we should warm up with a couple games of Horde!"
OMG! Did you catch the key words there "EVERY NIGHT and WE PLAY"! I love this woman more every day! So sorry if I didn't get to play with many of you last night... i was busy watching my wife make the opposing team her bitches!
