No More FFF for Me (at least in the near future)

Tue Dec 09, 2008 at 08:19:52 PM EST

Well, my 360 has died.  It froze about 10 times in a row and then red ringed.  I'm hopefully going to be sending it off today if I get the mailing label via email before I have to go pick up my daughter.

I hadn't played the thing in probably five days or so and I turned it on to finally start Fallout 3 and BOOM, there it goes.

I have an Elite version of the console as well.  Yeah, not so Elite experience. If anyone has a PS3, that will be my gaming location for the next few weeks.  PSN tag is papiblez.  Say what you will about Sony, but I haven't had a single issue with my PS3 so far. It's been fantastically reliable.

MS really screwed up with the 360.  I think all of us have dealt with 360's dying on us, some of us MULTIPLE ones.  Sorry to hear that Papi, we will miss you man.  I wish I still had my PS3 :(  I never had one problem with my PS3 either.  I guess that's what happens when you try to rush to be the first ones out of the gate..  Red rings galore!!

My bud from Georgia is coming up to visit and we're gonna hit up the town (so to speak). And then Saturday I'm going to my school's State Championship football game. Go Hawks! Sunday I might hang out with my buddy again, but I'm not sure. We'll see.

  •  Sorry to hear (none / 0)

I've had my issues too. MS has some great services but have the unreliable hardware. I wish I had a PS3 but I think I'll be getting a Wii before that. Hey at least you have some good games to keep you busy on the PS3.

  •  Never had a problem with mine (none / 0)

guess I'm just lucky. Only problems I've really ever had is when Live goes down. That happens to everyone though. I have a Halo 3 elite that is kept on my glass entertainment center.

I'm gonna saw me up some of that sex locust.

  •  Sorry to hear that, papi. (none / 0)

Glad you at least have a machine (of another kind) that works and is fun.  (Great tags, btw.)

Oh, and don't forget to vote even though you can't play for a while.

    •  I voted already (none / 0)

I would've typically freaked out about this.  But there are two things that bum me out about this right now.

I was finally carving out the time to play Fallout 3.  I've had several people give me ringing endorsements of the game and I was excited in hoping that I would finally find an RPG that could suck me in.

Second, I'm going to really miss interacting with the Gearheads on Friday nights.  It's really a bummer for me.  I didn't get to play with you last week and I was looking forward to playing with you on Friday.  Not only that, but I've been planning on hopefully going to a LAN party next weekend and well, that's gone now because my 360 is on its way to Texas.

  •  God bless you man... (none / 0)

    we all know Microsoft won't...

Oh well~Just more time for Little Big Planet ;)

You'd think for 300-500 bucks they could make a reliable console.

  •  If you're looking for something to play, (none / 0)

Try Combat Arms.  It's a totally free multiplayer FPS for pc.  Almost any pc can run it, and the graphics and gameplay are great for a free game.

    •  Thanks, man (none / 0)

But I have a PS3 so I'll be playing LittleBigPlanet, the new Motorstorm and Resistance 2.  Someone also got me Saint's Row on PS3 so I'll be playing that as well.  The thing is, I might start buying more titles on PS3 that are single player games that are multi-platform, especially in 2009 just because my PS3 is more reliable and they're going to have trophies mandatory next year.  Wow, this really sucks.  Why, oh why can't the 360 be more reliable?

Unplug your HDD and run your XBOX without a HDD for 20-30 minutes. Then unplug everything, plug it back in, and try loading it.

Worked for my elite and it lasted for a LONG time afterword

    •  I tried that (none / 0)

They recommended it when I called and it still didn't work.  I have the warranty through 2010, so I might as well get it fixed.  It just bums me out because I was hoping I'd have a little more time to play over the holidays than I've had lately.  Instead it's looking like that time will be spent on my PS3.

Zos, do you still have your PS3?  Have you tried LBP yet?

  •  Random (none / 0)

Just watched a video preview/demo of killzone 2. And the gameplay looks much more promising.

On top of that, the game is fuck-me gorgeous.

When does that ish come out, i need another PS3 game to play/

    •  Killzone 2 is the end of February 09 (none / 0)

it does look fucking amazing. The animations of reloading look incredible.  Everything looks so gorgeous.

      •  Im very happy to see a quick framerate as well! (none / 0)

A lot of time in development goes a long way! But it really shows what we can expect from consoles as they wind down in the next few years.

360 has install the hard drive feature, so i think this should be a pretty even showcase in the long run. Is Microsoft willing to have a first party title be in development for a long time though?

In terms of cell, i think that the consoles will bottleneck at their GPUs anyway.

I mean, if you look at Crysis PC benchmarks, dual core CPUs got the same exact performance as quad-core with the same GPU put in.

I think the 360 has a SLIGHTLY better GPU than the PS3, so it should even out if there is really any noticeable visual quality increase with the cell CPU.

        •  It seems like they're aiming for a Halo or Gears (none / 0)

every two years or so right now, so I doubt they're going to let something sit around for a long, extended period of time like Sony did with Killzone.  I've heard that Resistance 2 could've used more time in the cooker, so there's something to be said for giving a developer ample time to do something.

David Ellis has been raving about how much he likes the Killzone 2 single player on the 1up Show and 1up Yours.  And quite frankly, the game play vids I've seen look GORGEOUS.  I just hope it plays well.  A game isn't much use if the gameplay is clunky.

  •  MS Blew it with this box (none / 0)

    I've gone through 4 XBOX's.

First one died with red rings of death - I did the Best Buy warranty and got it replaced immediately.

The second one had issues with the disk drive and I again did the Best Buy thing.

The third one died with the red rings of death (last December) - sent that back to MS.

Three to four weeks ago, the replacement died with the red rings of death again.

Luckily, this time, I was able to borrow an XBOX from a friend that does not use his that much and I was able to play GOW2.

This whole experience has soured my trust in MS.  I was considering buying a Zune Player to replace my Creative .. but after this; I will not buy another piece of hardware from MS.

pain.  I just hooked my up at my buddies house last night.  It froze once and then bam.  Red Ring O Death.

  •  What a freaking Debbie Downer! :( (none / 0)

Sorry to hear about your 360 woes, Papi. It seems like the RRoD has affected nearly all of us. In fact, Razor Hanzo had his launch 360 RRoD on him the night before our Dec. 6th LAN-party. His machine was the only one that I've known to last that long and he abuses that like a drunk drinks Wild Turkey/Ripple. ;) It really sucks to go through replacing your console, but at least MS is covering it. Did they send you out the coffin & shipping documents, or did they just pay for shipping?

    •  MS would cover it no matter what (none / 0)

I was one of the saps who paid the extra $59 for the extended warranty on it since it had such a high failure rate.

They sent me a label, I provide the box and sent it out this morning.  Hopefully I'll have it back around Xmas.

  •  Sorry (none / 0)

We've all felt your pain.  But this pain sucks the most because we've all be waiting for Gears 2.  Its Here!  We get to play like one or twice together and now...  Shit canned!

Sorry Papi,  I was looking forward to more Horde together over the Holidays.  And now I see that SlimShotty is down for the count too!

tomorrow! JohnE, Razor Hanzo, and I will meet up with him to grab some adult beverages and dinner. Too bad slmshawty (Steve) came a week late, it would have rocked if he was able to join in on the LAN-party. :(

  •  At least it didn't feel any pain... (none / 0)

I just went through the same thing.  My coffin came in today, but I'll probably not get my machine back till' after X-mas.  As luck will have it, JohnEMidnight had an extra system and lent it to me while mine is in the shop. (I'll have to kick him over a few Cubans)

This would have been disasterous as I'm going to off on vacation between 12/19 - 1/12.  I also plan to play Chrono Trigger on my DS as I was never able to play the original.

  •  Sorry to hear Papi (none / 0)

Hey Papi i feel for ya, since i have gone on 6 already.

And i'm playing this weekend, well we will need to play when you get your xbox back.

You will meet your maker, the "chainsaw" and POLANDSTYLE
