Your best memory with a Gearhead

Sat Apr 12, 2008 at 05:24:45 PM EST

I am starting this thread because one of the threads in another diary brought back some great "bonding" memories of playing with you guys. What are your stories?

So, here is the thing, tell as many stories as you want, but everyone know that just because someone told this story and not that story, doesn't mean we don't all love everyone.  ha ha ha ha  HA HA HA HA

I will start:  ;)

Shortly after Gears was released, and probably only the second or third time I played with Gearheads. I played with Gacky for the first time.  There was no one else on, and somehow, Gacky and I got in a room.  He had a nasty cold and ear infection, too, and he was all stuffed up and could hardly talk.   And I am all like "Who the fk is this "Gackywacky" guy - why would anyone in their right mind, choose that gamertag? Give me a real Gearhead!"  And then the match on Gridlock started and I got taken down immediately, and then Gacky went and cleaned them all up with their own chunks and blood, and then he comes into the lobby and says, "Sorry I wasn't there to help you better" or something like that.  And I am just like, "Holy sh!t, well, I will be remembering YOUR gamertag."  And I have had a man crush on him ever since.  ha ha ha

It was just like those big guys in Junior High school (Ah!...I can still remember their names!  Mark and Alfred!) that used to protect me.  I let them copy my homework, and they walked on either side of me down the halls.  And for a 8 months (we moved again) I was SAFE, and the only people gettin' fist-to-thighs charlie horses were those other than me (but not at my command).

I can't believe you remember that I had a cold and ear infection!  I totally remember that also, the very first level I played with you on was Clocktower, how much of a loser am I!?  Haha

I just remember that after you left, I thought to myself, "I didn't know there were people that nice and gentleman-like in the world."  I wasn't even just thinking in terms of XBL, but the whole world.  Everything was just so positive and genuine that came out of his mouth, a definite man-crush as well!  Haha

That is probably my best gearhead memory as well, followed by any sniper battle between Robbins and me.  I'll get you yet, Robbins!!!

O and constantly owning Really Doe.   ;)

I'm feeling California and looking Minnesota.

  •  My fondest (none / 0)

memory that I have is of Really Doe headshotting papi with the shotty on feul depot from about 50 feet away while papi was in mid roll. Best headshot ever.
  •  I have to say.. (none / 0)

The creation of the BAB was the single most memorable moment in my gaming career. Hands down.
    •  Well, share it Boxin, don't just reference it! ;) (none / 0)

I wasn't there for that, nor the other famous, oft-referenced Nesquik, so I need to hear those stories. :)

        •  I think I'll take this one, Boxin... (none / 0)

It all started one FFF when we were without our fearless leader, Papi.  Zoso, Grymm, Boxin, and me wound up on the same team.  The guys were wiping out the competition so fast that I barely had a chance to see any of the enemy.  I made a remark that they were my "main moneymakers" & taking care of business so I wouldn't have to get my hands dirty.  I was running with it so I added that they didn't want to see my backhand if they stepped out of line.  Hilarity ensued and each of us started adding lines like "Bringing da heat", "Bacon with two sausages", and the moment that will forever be etched in the annals of Gearheads lore was uttered by the team- "Bitches and Blank."  I think it was Grymm that quipped "BAB."  LOL.  After finishing up that FFF, practically everyone on BAB changed their Gearheads' signature to reflect their BAB slogan.  Hahaha!  Damn, those were good times!

  •  Gears holds the most memories (none / 0)

although many of our Halo 3 games have been as memorable....Forge and the gametypes have been unbelievably funny!

We'll talk about this on the podcast and I'll share in more detail....Great post!

  •  One of my favorites was going through (none / 0)

the Gears co-op campaign with SweetTea.  It was really the first time he and I had a chance to really talk and bond.  We talked about everything from religion to politics during those marathon sessions while just enjoying one of the best gaming experiences ever.

I'll also forever remember those early times in Gears where I hadn't really developed any skills to stand on my own two feet and I would essentially follow Zoso around and act as the spotter to point enemies out to him.  We would work as a really coordinated two person team and that's when we started calling each other chocolate and peanut butter.  I'm not really attached to his hip in the game like I used to be because I can handle my own now, but those were really good times.

Yeah, that Really Doe headshot still rings in my ears.

As for the Nesquik story, it's pretty simple.  I think Grymm kept talking about Nesquik one FFF and I probably had a few too many beers, we were having a good time and I was feeling a bit goofy so I basically suddenly spurted out, "I like to dip my balls in Nesquik."  People were laughing for like 10 minutes after that and it didn't stop. Thus, the image of me teabagging a glass of Nesquik is forever emblazoned in people's minds.  Heh.

    •  I was actually going to talk about the (none / 0)

first and last memories you just mentioned, but decided to save it for the podcast...

Can I count on you for Gears 2 co-op papi? =)

    •  Yea, (none / 0)

a joke one of my friends and I have, which I think is in one of Dane Cook's skits, but anyway, we would say while playing online, "Hey, distract them with some 'Quik!" (which was short for NesQuik). And I was saying that to the people on my team for that FFF (Papi, Sweety, and I forget who else... it may have been Chris, can't remember) and then Papi said that he likes to dip his nuts in NesQuik, and then some other obscenities were talked about with NesQuik, but I can't remember. And that's how that happened.

    •  Thanks, papi (none / 0)

That is exactly what I was trying to get from people with this diary.  The interactions between us with the gameplay being secondary.

I remember the first time I "met" SweetTea.  I came into a very excited and rambunctious room, still not very familiar with the Gearheads, and as soon as there was a brief silence, SweetTea calmly welcomes me into the room and starts an interesting conversation, asking me personal, but not prying or uncomfortable questions.  I was really impressed and immediately I was looking forward to visiting more with him in the future.

  •  Awesome diary, Suns! (none / 0)

I honestly cant choose a specific time with a single Gearhead that wasnt fun, so I will say that the very first FFF that I got into with everyone was THE best time not only with some Gearheads, but on XBL. Everyone was so kind and accepting that I knew I wouldnt find a better group of guys online.
  •  I honestly think that the best time (none / 0)

with a Gearhead was the first time I ever played Gears and it was with Zoso, rEDChief, and Machete. I was over at Grymm's (Josh's) house, and I didn't know what I was doing, so I just used the chainsaw. I would hide behind something and Machete would come and I'd pop out and chainsaw him. This happened maybe 20 times, and finally he lost it. He said quote unquote "Alright Grymm, can you tell your retarded friend to stop f*cking chainsawing? It's getting really damn annoying."

    Hahaha funniest thing ever.
