Upgrading the Site

Gearheads, I'm in the process of investigating upgrading our humble community here. I'm not 100 percent sure how much it's going to cost and frankly, I can't foot the money out of my own pocket. I know many of you have agreed to make a contribution to the site, but I need to know realistically if I can raise about $1,000. That would be about what it would cost to get the site upgraded and only because I know a bunch of guys who do this kind of stuff.

I don't like to ask this publicly, but it's coming down to time to get this organized and moving and I need to have some idea as to whether it's possible to come close to raising $1,000 for the site upgrades.

Can you tell me how much you might be willing to contribute for the upgrade? Please don't feel pressure to say you can if you can't. There's no hard feelings...if we can't get enough money together we can just stick with the status quo and be happy with it as is.

I just need to figure out if the upgrade is realistic or not. Again, please don't feel pressured to contribute if you can't. I know that economic times are tough right now. Thanks in advance for just being a part of this community, which is the best gaming community on the Web, bar none.

Budget's a little tight bein in high school without a job at the moment, but I'm happy to help the site.

I mean, the podcasts alone are worth the money, and maybe now is not the time to ask but maybe getting them on itunes, not sure if its free, either way, i download them from whereever you post them, and the web was meant to be free, so if thats what it takes, i still come here at least 1-2 times a day.

What are you wanting out of an upgrade? We happen to have a couple of products that can do everything we have here and more that are free. I can also lend a hand on the upgrade side. I can't really do much on the money front however as I am in the middle of trying to buy a house.

  There are a few options available. I can help with converting this to a SharePoint site which would really give you a lot of options. Everything from blogs to Wikis to being able to do themes etc...
  On the other hand, if you want something more home grown, we can always go the ASP.NET route as well. Which will give you pretty much all the same options, just a bit more work involved.

    But the site is actually built on scoop, which is an open source platform and I want to keep it there because it scales really well. I also have a few people I know who are experts in it and can make the changes with minimal disruption to what we currently do.

20 to 30 probably. Is there a fund raising campaign we can start, like selling something etc? I'm just thinking out of the people who pledge some may run into trouble and 1000 is a big number. Bluephaze might have a good alternative?

This gives me an idea that we can do what I'm looking to accomplish. I'll probably do paypal for the payments since it seems like the most can send money along that way. It looks like we're at about $700 or so.

  Never expected a community like this when I first bought my 360.
  I have friends from my hometown, but this is so much more consistent than trying to rally the "Home" troops to play some games on specific night.
