Microsoft Gamer's Day Recap

What's in a day?  Well a good one consists of an excellent trailer or two, new Gears of War 2 info and Cliffy taking shots at the press.  (More on that later) But with those parameters, Microsoft's Gamers Day turned out to be a success.

While quiet on the subject of "LIPS" and a Dashboard update Microsoft did go nuts in terms of releasing game information.  Rare opened the floodgates on both Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts revealing more game info than you could shake a 360 waggle peripheral at; Which was something else that was a no show at the event.

One source you knew would be talking was Peter Molyneux.  Now, I'm as skeptical as the next guy regarding Fable 2 but Microsoft's Gamers Day sold me on what may be his "9th Symphony".  Not only did he unveil that every house in Fable 2's world can be purchased but also that there is less than five minutes worth of non-interactive cut-scenes in the entire game. On an extremely cool side note, little kids will act out the entire story of Fable 1, having mock battles and plays. And, if you become famous enough they'll even act out your heroics thus far in Fable 2.  Stage Mothers and Fathers pushing their kids to act for you CONFIRMED.

That crazy Silicon Knights developer that you all know and...hate had plenty to say about his game too.  Dennis Dyack revealed that just two humans can play Too Human in the co-op mode, two less than previously promised.  While it seemed this would just be crap for haters to throw at Dennis, our good friends Garnett and Shane at 1UP eased frustrations saying perhaps it was better that way due to levels that were "not cramped, but let's call them compact."  Overall Too Human seemed to impress 1UP.

But most important to us here at GearHeads, was the overload of information regarding Gears 2.  5 on 5 player multiplayer, the ability to crawl away while down but not out, and hints at a Halo-style lobby system all made their way to our front page news.  Oh and the 'little clip that could' showing Marcus beating the crap out of a locust UFC style. Sweeeeet. Cliffy also pleased fans by trying something similar on Shane Bettenhausen rephrasing one of his questions as "When is Gears 2 coming out for the PS3?" Haha...oh Clifford.

But missing from all the fancy features and unveils was the more humble news that really matters.

Check and Mate

Or not.

So there's your short but sweet Microsoft Gamers Day wrap up; For more in depth information on the Gamer's Day be sure and check out our front page story.

Didn't know about that bundle

but it really looks like a warehouse clearance effort.  Come on, a wired controller and headset...IF you buy one of three pre-selected games?  ha ha ha  Great for those who don't have a 360 and want one for NG2.  Otherwise, that pot needs more sugar.

Gears is my porn.

!haha nice

'that pot needs more sugar..' lol

I agree with that warehouse comment, MS could have done more. I guess because of the Japanese market being sluggish to pick up, they get the leftovers.

Japanese market is one for quirkiness. They should include a stress ball with EVERY 360 console for those times we have to call customer service!

Oh, and another thing - I can't believe Microsoft can be 'interested' in bringing a virtual CLONE of the Wii-mote into the 360 world... it should kick up some patent wars surely, and with the way money for replacement 360's are dwindling, can they afford potential law suits?

L xxxx

Papi gets Boom. PERIOD. A little monster foreplay never hurt anybody..

ha ha Thanks! Two years ago,

I wrote that Microsoft would be following suit (with a motion sensitive controller), if not making it for this generation, for sure for the next.  At that time, I was thinking it was desirable.

Boy was I wrong.  I have really become disappointed with my Wii.  I was so excited about the potential of a new control mechanism, and was expecting Wii Sports 2 and Wii Sports 3 and a bunch of other games that would just be SO cool.  I assumed that the only reason Wii Sports was so bare bones, was  because they just didn't have time to do more than that.  Now it seems to me like they couldn't give a flying f..eather duster.  NONE of the software for that machine, including SSBB and MKWii holds our interest for more than a couple of weeks.  Then, back to collecting dust.

They have just come out with a white Gamecube controller with a longer cord because people want to use those controllers for their Wii games, which is to say, the gestures have no relationship to the game mechanics, and are bothersome to perform!  Even Star Wars:TFU is only utilizing motion sensitivity as a switch, not a movement emulation.  So forget about being the Star Wars Kid in your basement!

GearsChris traded his in, and used the cash to get another 360.  That is the way to go.  Totally disappointed in the Wii - just another N64/Gamecube!  I can't believe it.  Nintendo did it to me again!

In contrast, there is just no end in sight for the 360.  Way, WAY too many AAA games to buy and play them all.  Oh, the irony!  The shittiest piece of hardware ever created, has the hottest software lineup ever to grace any system, ever.  It is getting to the point where the 5-7 year term for the 360 (I can't use "lifespan" because all that machine does is die) may very well have as many great games as all the years of the PC until this point.  Is that hyperbole?  Seriously, I don't even know if that is an exaggeration.  The games that have already come out for the 360, and the games that are to come...it is just unbelievable.

Gears is my porn.

3Suns

that is for sure the main problem with the 360, we all know how they just break.  My PS3 is also collecting dust as well.  I'm eagerly waiting for MGS4.  The kids just weren't playing the Wii very much anymore, and always were playing my 360.  As I am typing this Dylan is playing Viva Pinata on my 360 and my Daughter is playing Viva Pinata on the other 360 LOL, so I'm still left out in the cold LOL :) I'll have my time later for FFF.  The 360 game lineup is truly amazing, and even if it's multi-platform I will always buy it for the 360 over my PS3.
