Valve Defends PC Gaming

I just read a great article on IGN where Valve explains how the platform isn't dead at all. In fact, they argue that it is thriving now better than ever. They really put things into perspective with some of their numbers and they described the direction that they see PC gaming going in the future. It is a great read for any of you who think PC gaming may be a dieing market (SweetTea ;)).

Well, first of all I don't think PC Gaming is (none / 0)

dying...I've just said its a pricey country club with a complicated entry process and loads of benefits for those who know what their doing. Valve IS PC Gaming...apart from Steam PC gaming is a disaster to try and figure out...I've tried. I think PC gaming will continue to be the testing ground for new technology that will serve its nice well. Then in time the tech will move on to more affordable venues. With computing becoming more and more portable (IPhone, Windows Mobile etc.) I really think desktop's will become the home of the hardcore.

  specifically remember you saying that PC gaming was on it's last legs :/. Also, Warcraft is not linked to Steam at all and that is one of the largest communities of any game ever. Just for a comparison, Halo 3 made $300 million in it's first week. WarCraft has been making $125 million EVERY MONTH for years.

    in the U.S. market. That's what I meant. On another note I think WoW is the exception to the rule as the Wii is for console gaming. Doesn't need an impressive system and is selling like hotcakes. As I said, I think as computing moves to more portable venues PC gaming will become more and more niche in the mainstream market.

      Halo 3 has made far more money than any wii game out there. The wii may have tons of users like WoW, but my point was that it has made more MONEY than any other game out there.
