To melee, or not to melee... That is the question

This diary is made to once and for all end the debate of limited melee or no melee. I think everyone knows my position on the topic as well as the opposition's. If the majority votes for limited melee, then I will suck it up and play with limited melee (although I will still refuse to ever do it). If the majority votes for no melee, then I think everyone else should respect that. As demonstrated in another diary, polls clearly do not show clear evidence, so I am going to use a bit of a different technique. Please put your vote as the subject of your entry. Your choices are as follows:
Option 1: NO MELEE
Option 2: LIMITED MELEE

Update [2008-6-16 13:42:53 by MacheteMan7]: I really want this arguing to end, as my love for SweetTea is being ignored in this topic ;). I think this is really the most decisive way to settle the topic. In the end, it really is up to papi, but this may sway his decision.

Although ultimately this is papi's decision...He made the original rule of limited melee and so he's the authority on what we do- especially when it is semi-split.

  I don't agree that this is totally left up to him. There's a difference in how we've approached & allowed ourselves to be flexible that sets us apart from other communities. Even though Papi started this site, every member of this community has an equal say on how we conduct ourselves & whatever stipulations we may set. We're equal shareholders in this process. I truly believe that Papi's "leadership" is what defines the greatness of this community. He respects us just as we respect him. Papi is not the ultimate authority nor does he treat his position as such. By leaving the decision solely on his shoulders would negate any future discussions, opinions, etc. that we would have from this point on. Am I wrong? Look, we all love this game. Our beloved game is broken in numerous aspects such as the netcoding, weapon balancing, and other gameplay features. However, let's let the community dictate the fashion of how we play.

This site isn't a dictatorship. It's all about the community.
That being said, my vote is definitely limited melee in the context that it always has been since we implemented house rules.
If it ain't broke and it's working, why stress so much about it? Unless someone can point to specific instances where people have been blatantly ignoring the rules.

I think if we just do away with it, we wont have to worry about the "gray area", but even when we play "limited melee" barely anyone does, so its not that big of a problem.

On a serious note, I'm very happy to hear that you have your priorities in check. However, you will need some R & R to get you through those stressful college times.       It's very encouraging to know that our friends are heading off to college. I know that 3Suns & I, being teachers, relish the idea that young men & women choose to pursue higher education. I only mentioned gacky in the last post because he actually stated that he wasn't intending to bring his box with him. Remember, gaming in moderation is stress-relieving as long as your priorities are in check. :D

    most people consider the very rare use of melee basically "no melee". Thats what i would always say in a room. "No melee, unless..." etc.

I don't think that the gray area is really fair. Here is why:
Player with the power weapon has the advantage, player without the power weapon gets up close, without dying yet. Then Power Weapon melee's the other player, furthering his advantage against the other player.
I just don't think its fair that the person on top of the advantage board use another advantage, as it's been said in another post that Melee is "Just too Good".

      Also, Boxin changed his mind to Limited and Degrees ended up saying "or limited whatever..." stating a apathetic view.
      So it's still 9-10 Limited.
      And quite frankly I can't see us changing the rules that have been in place and working based on such a close count.

I think that the long "Noooooo Melee" means he's firmly in option 1's camp. ;) Boxin said that he changed his vote after his exchange of posts with Kenai, leading me to wonder where his actual preference is because Kenai remains "No Melees." As in regards to rED & Grymm's need to actually vote in this diary, it's really a moot point because I think the community can all agree that this topic has gone on for far too long. I believe that they've made their point abundantly clear & to discount their stances because they failed to vote here is ridiculous. This original topic by Suns was just something to promote discussion & suggestions for options to make everyone happy; now it's drawn out & beaten to death. This really is a dead horse now.
