Looking for some... DECISION MADE! Virtual pic inside

THANK YOU for all your thoughts and advice...I will be getting a 32" Samsung LCD HDTV as well as a wireless surround sound headset....Which leads me to my next question...Which one should I get?! I have absolutely no knowledge in the audio area and would love any advice you could offer =) Thanks again everyone! ----------------------------------------------- Ok, so that special time in every man's life is almost upon me.  I'm going to buy an HDTV.  I've narrowed it down to two choices, both Samsung's.

I'll either be getting a 26" or a 32", but this is where it gets tricky. I can afford to either get a 26" and the new Zune (I still have the original and am in serious need of an upgrade) OR I can buy the 32" and a wireless surround sound headset. (living in an apartment with other guys next year, so I'll probably use them a lot)

What's a man to do? You're advice is greatly appreacited. And machete I've played with the new Zune's and I really like them ;)

Resolution?

What resolutions are the HDTV's because at that size there is absolutely NO reason to get anything more than 720p. 42" is the bare minimum for 1080p tv's.

great point david

unless it is smaller like 24" an under.

True

At those sizes, it's pretty much a waste to get an HDTV. I'd save up a little longer and get something that'll last past college dorm life.

yeah 24 is more of a monitor

The co-functionality is nice though. A pretty cheap way to get HD if you don't mind gaming on a monitor like in PC games.

Thats what I use for my 360.

Its quite an upgrade compared to a CRT tv. And definately a cheap way.

So your saying if it isn't 1080p, to wait?

That's not really an option, but something I could look into...

Resolution for both is 720p

720p is perfectly fine. It'll serve you well.

In the next three years, you'll eventually upgrade to a larger set with better resolution.

Go for the 32" HDTV & headset.

It'll be more practical when you have roommates.  You already have a Zune that gets the job done.  Hold off on that upgrade for later.  Who knows, Nate might win the lottery?  Wait a minute, is he even old enough to buy a lottery ticket? ;)

LOL

When me and my Wife both read the beginning of your diary we thought you were getting married :)  I'd go for the TV and headset for sure, my 32 inch Phillips has 1080i and I got it for around $800.

Glad you're going Samsung

I've tried a lot of different brands and honestly, Samsung seems like it has the best quality colors to me.  I've got a 46 inch 1080p and a 26 inch 720 p in my bedroom.  They're just awesome.

But definitely go with the 32 inch.

by papi blez on Wed Jun 04, 2008 at 01:18:42 AM EST

yeah

I have a Sony Bravia, but the Samsung's have the better colors.

Same here

Zoso. I've got a 32" 720p Sony. I liked it more than the Samsung when I picked it up compairing side by side it looked pretty good. Now I kick myself not getting higher resolution but I had to get something right away my big screen took a dump.

Why are the Bravias so much more?

I've never understood that.

they are supposed to have

the best resolution. imo its nothing crazy. I would say my Bravia has a more natural look, but i want vibrance baby!

by Zoso Fan on Wed Jun 04, 2008 at 11:15:02 AM EST

The vibrance just isn't there in the

Bravia sets I've seen.  The resolution is so minute that it's tough to tell which one is better and the colors are clearly better with Samsungs.

Much like their console, Sony TVs are overrated and overpriced.

Yeah they are

more for some reason and if you get the XBR then it's more than regular Bravia. I was thinking it was the main chip that Sony "branded" so you just get to pay more for it. Zoso you know anymore about them?

i have a 46" dlp

its very cool,
although the lcd and plasmas look so much better
but cost was a factor so i went dlp and i have zero complaints

my only beef is that i cant get my 360 to 1080p
any ideas?

Couple things

You need the HD cables or HDMI

And you can change your system settings on the dashboard (480,720, 1080I, 1080P).

It the last "blade" in the dashboard.  You can also change your sound output (5.1 digital, etc...)

"I do not tell lies, but I am a savage".

I have a 1080p TV

and honestly, 720p with the 360 looks better because they're just upscaling and it doesn't really do a good job.  I find the motion a lot more blurry in 1080p.

by papi blez on Wed Jun 04, 2008 at 11:12:28 AM EST
[ Parent ]

Thats really HDTV to HDTV though

Maybe that is the difference in Bravia vs Samsungs HDTVs. 360 in 1080p looks steller on the tv. I play on my 24" monitor when i play with you all though :) 1080p resolution (but imo it looks more clear than that) with very vibrant colors. The 24" monitor has an hdmi input, but its worthless. Looks like shit.

I would say Samsung for a flat panel

There are a lot of deals out there but don't look at price too much. look for the best long term choice. Everyone I know has a different flat panel big screen and majority of them have had to have the bulbs replaced not to long after they bought the tv...I have a 65" Hitachi hdtv...its not the flat panel so I shouldn't have to worry about the bulb issue.. so far its been a great tv..and its like a mural on the wall in my small apartment...i probably just jinxed myself on my tv ..lol
