The PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player you can buy on the market. There is absolutely not reason to get a stand-alone player over the Playstation 3.

And if you do, get Uncharted.  One of the best games of last year and probably the ONLY game right now worth picking up on the PS3.  Everything else that's good is available on other platforms.  Heavenly Sword isn't bad, it just isn't the Goddess of War game I thought it was going to be. Resistance is also OK but they have a lot of improvements to make in Resistance 2 to make it a Triple-A franchise.  Sony can't will it to be so.

The Blu Ray disk drive in it is VERY good.  I would say that the HDDVD player that came with the 360 looks a little better, but the Blu Ray in the PS3 is definitely very, very good especially if you have a TV that can do 1080p.  So yes, get the PS3.  And I'll go ahead and say it, I think Killzone 2 is going to be better than most people think.  I'm more excited for Killzone 2 than I am for Resistance 2.

to get MGS4 if that's your kind of game.

The PS3 is the only BR that is available on the market that can d/l firmware updates.  Older BR-players can't do the added functionality & features like the picture-in-window & other things that the current players can.  Although I don't have a PS3 yet, I do plan on picking one up closer to wintertime.  I've also read on several game site sources that the BR-player in the PS3 is a pretty good player.

preferably on the PS3 (you know, the PS3 is a BBQ joke).  

I have about 80 DVD movies.  I think that unless the Blu Ray stuff becomes very, VERY affordable, I will be skipping this next format altogether: jumping straight into digital streaming/downloading.

*An advantage of the PS3 as a BluRay player is that its one of the few that can receive firmware updates.

recommend everyone on the fence about ps3 to wait until July 1st. Walmart is going to be doing a promotion where you get a $100 gift card when you buy one and I know some stores will be matching that price (including Best Buy).
