"Who Are Your Heroes?"

Mon Jun 09, 2008 at 04:52:16 AM EST

I was going to name this diary, "I Sh!t You Not", but then I realized that this one just had to go on the front page.  Swears don't look so nice in the titles of posts, so I went for the more family-friendly title, "Who Are Your Heroes?".

So, I got home from work and we all sat down for a dinner of Sloppy Joes, and what is the first question my boys ask me?

"Daddy, who do you think is better, rEDChief, or Grymm?"  After I gave my answer, which basically ended with "but I love them both", they went on, naming one Gearhead after another (I sh!t you not), talking about their various specialities, and debating who could take who.

I just sat in silence munching on my Sloppy Joe, grinning with such force that the food threatened to fall out of my mouth.

I love it.  The heroes in my house aren't the Manning brothers, Mr. Kobe Bryant, or even Henrik Zetterberg.  They are the Gearheads.

That is just fine by me.

Wow, I need to pop Gears in the tray more often and play with all of you. Maybe then I'll end up in Japanese dinner discussions, like a true pro gamer. Anyway, that's awesome.
  •  Suns. This made me smile at work. (none / 0)

  •  That is awesome to hear (none / 0)

  •  Great piece of writing! (none / 0)

I want to be your kid's heroes!!!

Hmmm, who are my heroes...Well Suns for the great guy he is (and witness), my dad for the great leader he is, gotta come back to Micheal Jordan for the outstanding athlete he was, J Allard for creating a vision for the 360, but most importantly this Jesus guy for being a perfect example to live buy.

Oh and then there's Homer Simpson, Steve Carell and Zoso for making me laugh constantly. ;)

  •  Pretty sure I did not make the heroe list...... (none / 0)

But it will be interesting to know your opinion about all the Gearheads, you know we can always improve from someone else point of view. Sometimes we might not notice our specialties or our deficiencies.

So Suns go for it, if you have time, let us know what you know about our gameplay.

Sorry, blankman I only have a digital watch!!!!!

  •  My hero isn't an athlete, celebrity, musician,... (none / 0)

nor religious figure.  My hero was my fifth grade teacher, Audrey McKiver.  She embodied everything that an exceptional teacher could have.  I visited her every single year until she eventually retired.  Mrs. McKiver made learning absolutely wonderful and influenced me to teach others for a living.  It was amazing to run into her at my graduate school- Pepperdine University.  She was getting her Masters in Education a year after I was scheduled to finish mine.  I still remember attending her graduation at the Malibu campus & cheering her on.  Great post, Suns!

  •  Dylan (none / 0)

loves playing so much with your boys online.  I just wish that one day they could all meet wouldn't that be really cool.  He seems to be starting a budding friendship with them and it's so nice for him to have somebody around his own age for him to game with and not have to mute them for there foul mouth.  He's still having a rough time understanding the time zone difference, I just wish that you could see his face when they tell him that they have to go to bed his face just looks so sad and then I'll ask him whats wrong bubba and he'll say they have to go to bed but I just got up why do the sleep in the daytime.  Kids are so good to have and some of the things we have to teach them is so awsome.  I feel really greatfull to you and your family ESuns for all the help that you have been giving Chris and for allowing your boys to game with Dylan you can never know how much all this has help with everyting that I'm going thru and for what I have put my family thru.  Thank you so much.  To me Chris and ESuns are my hero's thanks so much for that.  Jenn

Love you too Jennifer :)  I'm just glad your getting better everyday, and yes 3Suns is such an awesome guy, what more could you want in a hero than him :)
    •  Johann and Tim feel the same way. (none / 0)

They are SO disappointed when their session ends!  It is very cool having a whole family of friends who game and are such awesome people. Thank you!
(I can't say more, or Blankman will rip up my Man Card.  He already took it away from me a while back, and I am on probation.  Another violation though, and I am out!  He'll return the card, all shredded in an envelope....  and you can't replace those!) ha ha ha

  •  OK (none / 0)

I have many heros, and I'll start with my Dad.  He is just a awesome person, I try to be more like him everyday.  My Wife is also my Hero, she is what keeps my family running, without her I'm totally lost.  God is a hero to me as well :)  OK now for some Gearhead hero's, not in any order either :)

Papi Blez- You are a hero to me because you made this awesome site that I have met so many wonderful people, and for being there for me through our e-mails.  Thanks man

3Suns- Come on now who doesn't like 3Suns?  He's such a gentleman and all around nice guy. How could a guy like this not be a Hero to us all.  You have also been there for me through e-mails for prayers and support and I truly thank you for that, and your Wife :)

Blankman- Blankman is a hero to me because he is such a bad a$$, he's a excellent guy to game with and the room just isn't the same if he's not in there :)  It's awesome to hear your screams while we are playing Gears :)

Sweet Tea-  You are such a great community leader and you do a awesome job hosting the podcasts, and also Grymm for coming up with the podcast idea and getting it going, great job guys :)

Poland- What more can I say, he is my Jedi Master.   Where I got my chainsaw skills :)

Robbins- I just wish I could Snipe like you, so you are also a hero to me :)

ZosoFan-  Your torque bow skills are just amazing, so you are also a hero to me :)

  •  As i have said before (none / 0)

We are more than a community over on-line.   We are a "Family" and as a family we all stick together, the thick the thin, etc.  (now not a married couple.... ;-)

But i think we have all "spilled our beans", been sick, had a spouse that has been sick, had a new family member born, etc.  These are events I think we wouldn't have shared with any other forum.  We keep that as one, and we stay tight nit which is why i only post to this forum.

    The "Gearheads" family.

  •  Nice post, Suns (none / 0)

My real life hero is really my wife.  Anyone who has kids and has watched their wife give birth, then hell, they should be immortalized for that.  If men had to go through the birthing process then the human race would die off.  That and my wife understands and lets me pursue my passions, even when times sometimes appear tough.  Nothing is better than a loving support system.

As for Gearheads, Blank is my hero because he's able to continually be loud as hell during FFF and not have his wife divorce him.  That and he's one of the people I just love having in my room because he's so much fun to talk to (even if we get our asses handed to us).

Sweetie is my hero for his enduring dedication to this site.  He's always writing to me proposing new ideas and ways to get the site to grow.  It's remarkable.

Suns is my hero for being the Zenmaster.  He's astounding how he finds a Zen place about the Gears shenanigans.  Every week I tell myself that I'm going to be like Suns and find my Zen place and every week, I wind up whining like a bitch about the boom.

I admire aamato's ability to be good with nearly any weapon he picks up.  He's one of the few Gearheads who doesn't seem to have a specialty but is outstanding with everything.

Robbins is my hero because I don't have fear for anyone else's sniping abilities like his.  I pretty much assume that I'm dead if I'm in the open anywhere on the map and there is a sniper rifle there. Robbins is that good.

Zoso is my personal Gearheads hero because I've seen him execute more amazing moves and kills in the game than anyone ever.  He does something almost weekly that I've never seen in Gears before.  That and he's the peanut butter to my chocolate.

Really Doe is my bullet proof hero.  No matter what you, he refuses to do.

Boxin is my Canadian hero.  No one puts up with more grief for being Canadian and is good spirited about it.  Oh and Boxin has obviously been practicing because I got in a game with him last week and he's gotten really good with the power weapons.

And then the guys that are just fun to play with who are my heroes.  The Kenais, GearsChrisBs and tyrus' of the world.

On a personal note, I know GearsChris has done an amazing job of being a rock and pillar for his family during some tough times.  He's handled it with class, dignity and continued to be a great, great person.  Kudos, man.  It takes a hero to go head on into every storm while maintaining a smile.

    •  Thanks (none / 0)

Papi :)  That means a lot coming from you.  On a side note I got a call from my boss today and was basically told that If I could find another job to do so, he said he's not sure when work is coming.  So the hits just keep coming, but I'm hanging in there.  The job search begins again :)  Thanks again, and as I stated on my post your e mails have meant so much to me, as 3Suns,SweetTea, and Kenai's has as well.  It's great to know that you guys are here for me and my family through these trying times :)
      •  Good men aren't so easy to find (none / 0)

There are plenty, but you have to search them out.

You should know by now where you rank on our list!

Someday, I'll finish that other e-mail that I started writing to you.

        Peace bro.

good man, thanks a lot :)  I know things have to turn for the better eventually.  I'm trying not to go crazy worrying about everything that has been going on, it's tough to say the least.  That's why it's good to have great friends like I do here on
Gearheads :)  You guys all mean so much to me, I'll shut up now or Blankman will revoke my man card :)
