1UP Breaks Bungie News!/MS to publish new game!

As many of you know, Bungie has been running a countdown to Wednesday morning when they were suppose to be making an announcement. Earlier tonight, however...the countdown transformed into this message from a very frustrated Bungie president, Harold Ryan:

From 1UP's story...

"For the last several months, we've been building toward a reveal of something exciting that Bungie is working on. We were looking forward to sharing that with our fan community during the week of E3. However, those plans were just changed by our publisher."

Who is the Publisher? What was the announcement? Why on earth was it canceled? While any chance of any of this info getting leaked is unlikely, and old friend of 1UP Yours is already scheduled to appear on 1UP Yours tomorrow...CANCELED~Because of the issues with Microsoft, that "old friend" is no longer coming on 1UP Yours

Also, Bungie's Community Manager, Luke Smith just revealed on video game super forum NeoGaf that Microsoft is indeed the publisher...So long Sony rumors!

I was VERY excited for the announcement. But on the positive side, it must be a VERY awesome project if they were afraid of outshining GOW2. (believing that rumor)

      i could see it ending up like the star wars MMO, but i doubt it would be free, and if they did what type of gameplay would they implant? i am a fucking nerd for MMo's i mean i still play runescape and now that they made it look even better with their new graphics engine, but a very well done HALO MMO could be great, it has a great universe

It just doesn't make sense (none / 0)

for Microsoft to pull the carpet out from under Bungie's feet. They still have the exclusive publishing contract going for them, so why would Microsoft just not only screw Bungie and the fans, but also themselves. Its bad ju ju, I tell you. Hopefully we see something soon.

I figure that if you have a bad showing (which honestly I think our showing at E3 has rocked, especially compared to the others) that you would want to have something big to bring it back up for you. This is of course completely conjecture and opinion on my part as i don't work with that group. Then again, I am biased...

    nintendo had the worst conference IMO. At least Sony came out and said the games they are gonna release in the next couple of years. Reggie said there will be less casual games at E3. Then at E3 they show nothing. Wii music LOL who would rather air drum then play the drums at rock band. Its sad when when there two games they made the biggest deal about is wii resort and wii music.

      I think I have experienced a perception change. I no longer think of the Wii as a console competing in this generation. It is an insanely popular toy that uses the TV. That is all. For me, there are only three platforms left. PC, 360, and PS3. So, I don't even judge Nintendo by the standards that I judge the other platforms.
      Wii Sports Resort!? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Whatever. Nintendo makes toys and gadgets. They are no longer in the game console industry, as far as I am concerned.

    you said you didn't even watch the Nintendo presentation, I watch all three and Nintendo was by far the WORST. When they were up on stage with that Wii music crap they looked like complete idiots, I have lost ALL respect for Nintendo. on Bungie's page in response to the cancellation. Sounds like they are pissed can't blame them lots of hours spent on a show like this.
"By now, you've likely seen the front page message from Bungie President Harold Ryan, but in case you just returned from an exhaustive trip living in the wilderness. As upset and frustrated as we know folks are, we hope it's at least a small comfort that our fans know we share their disappointment. A metric ton of man hours went into getting something ready to show and it's disappointing to not be able to share it. But, the upside is that it's all stuff you'll still see further down the road.
As much as fans wanted to believe otherwise, this is in fact, the truth and not a cruel hoax or prank. E3 is winding down and there are no plans to make a surprise announcement later this week.
Top Questions we've received on this matter:
1. OMG! The announce was posted at 7! This is all part of the plan.
The news was broken to us shortly before 7 p.m. and we decided to keep with tradition to make a clean break.
2. Why leave the splash page up if it's not happening?
We left the splash page up for the folks who didn't see the message or were planning on tuning in the following morning before the news vanished into Bungie.net's ether.
3. But Harold Ryan is only a TESTER this has to be fake!
Harold was a tester, but assumed the position of President a while ago. Crazy Wiki's and their misinformation. A couple of far lower priority side effects of us not making our announcement are that the Podcast we recorded and the E3: Livin' the Dream mockumentary Sketch and I were filming have hit some snags. The Podcast will be filed away in the "archives" and will be anachronistically released at a later date. The video experience, E3: Livin' the Dream, cannot be salvaged at this time. "
