Friday Night FragFest: July 18, 2008 - Happy Birthday to Mami Blez Edition

Hey Gearheads, today is my lovely wife's birthday. We'll be celebrating on Saturday night.

Happy Birthday, Honey! Thanks for putting up with all my "special" quirks for 11 plus years.

Any way, go ahead and sign up below for the evening of fragging below. I'm not sure when I'll be on yet. Probably around 9 p.m. or so. I'm hoping to one day soon play a game with Zoso again.

Oh and one final note, for those of you who've been watching G4's coverage of E3 this week, I just want to give my brother major props for being one of the only people who did a hands-on demo of the Gears SP campaign with Adam Sessler WHILE talking about the game. In other words, he was playing the game while selling it. Most of the other gaming folks brought up a flunky to play the game while they talked about it. Props, Cliff, for showing your passion for the game you're creating by actually playing it while selling it. And BOOOOOOO to the rest of you who didn't. I think Todd Howard of Bethesda was one of the only other ones who did that with Fallout 3. Also, Fallout 3 made a much better impression on me on the G4 demo than it did during the MS press conference. I now think it might very well be my great white hope of RPGs once again.

I won't be on until the 29th of August, or even later if our 360 craps out and the 60GB versions aren't out here yet. We'll see.
Anyway, have a good one! Wish I could be there. I have already loaned my gear to my colleague so that he can play through all those games while I am gone (if the hardware holds up). Unlike me, he loves single player gaming and I loaned him Orange Box, BioShock, Call of Duty4, Gears of War, Halo 3 and one or two others. That is some AAA gaming right there, baby!

Conference demo!
From Eurogamer:

For those who missed it, the demo began and Marcus advanced towards a smoke-drowned Jacinto skyline before the video feed stopped and reloaded, giving the impression we were actually watching a recording.
"We went to ghost cam," Bleszinski says. "What happened was that everything was working fine at rehearsal, and then when I went on stage and did my presentation and went to use my controller it timed out, and then I'm like 'Mother f***er!' So they went to the backup feed where they were playing in the back, and I had to act like I was playing it, even though I wasn't. I'm not going to lie."
For that one reason, I friggin' hate (and love) technology. Even if you rehearse your kung fu, it can still stick a knife in your back.
Another juicy tidbit from that article:

"We switch up the gameplay," he acknowledges, adding that the level we saw him play through (or not play through) was set three-quarters of the way through the campaign.
This means we won't be riding the Brumak until 3/4 of the way through the game!! Remember this, people! I was thinking this was a level from near the beginning of the game.

  to the post office and started to fill out the address I realized wait does he actually have a real name?! So I thought rEDchief was good enough I was even pondering puttin the 55 on there as well. Glad to see that you got it alright, I did notice that there is a small crack on the inside of the disc so I tested it out and made sure it worked and it seemed to so hopefully it will hold up til nov7.
