Gears Novel prep work.... Karen Traviss

I thought since Karen Traviss wrote the upcoming Gears novel I would see what her writing style is like and especially how she writes her character interactions. I picked up Republic Commando Hard Contact (the first in the series). I have not been disappointed so far she has a great style. I was watching her part in the Gears panel and seeing a older lady talk about "grubs" and chainsawing enemies was funny as hell. Great stuff I think this novel will rate up there with the Halo novels which says a lot because Nylund is a great writer. I know it was mentioned a few have read this series, what did you think? If you haven't read it then do yourself a favor and read it in the next few months

  •  Thanks for the thoughts, Window! (none / 0)

I have high hopes for her book.  I remember WAY back when Gabe raved her Star Wars stuff in the Penny Arcade blog.  I wasn't at all surprised then, when I saw/heard her mention that she is friends with Gabe and Tycho.  Also, she showed tremendous passion about the material, and I think that gamers and Sci Fi readers alike are in for a big treat!  I can't wait.

  •  What all did she write for Republic Commando? (none / 0)

I love me some Star Wars books. They've gotten really shitty from what they were though. The Thrawn Trilogy should be adapted for film.

a triology of books about a Commando Clone squad. It picks up after the Geonosis battle in Episode 2 and goes with the story of the war. I have not read a lot of Star Wars books. I will take a look at the Thrawn Triology sounds good.
