Music Game Changer

Most everyone here knows that I think the band Tool is the greatest band of all time; rock messiahs walking amongst many, many peasants if you will.

So to me, someone who has NEVER been able to get into the music band genre much because I kind of suck at the games, the news that Tool is going to be featured with three songs in the new Guitar Hero: World Tour game has completely changed my perspective. I'm now going to pluck down $190 for the new game and I'm also going to be getting rid of Rock Band. That's how much that band and its music means to me. To get a chance to play instruments like Adam Jones, Danny Carey, Justin Chancellor and sing like Maynard is too good to pass up. I honestly never thought my favorite band (I've seen them in concert three times and they're the best live band I've ever seen when you combine the quality of the music and the visual art show) would never come to one of these music games. It was one of the reasons I was so excited about Lips because I thought that game might make it so I could sing any Tool song through my iPod. See Tool has always been extremely artsy in shying away from any publicity for themselves. Hell their music videos have never featured the actual band members except their very first one from their EP Opiate. Well, if you want a taste of what they're like, here are a few of their videos:

Those are visual masterpieces if you ask me. Sure, they're freaky, but hell, it was something that drew me into the band. They were so different from anything else out there.

Judging from some of the comments in that IGN article, I think others probably feel very similarly. I'm telling you that I was so very bored about the thought of another Guitar Hero game, but an announcement like this made this game shoot to the top of my list of most wanted games. I would WANT to learn to play the drums in a Tool song and that's always been the missing thing for me from these games. There are songs I like but nothing that I LOVE. That changes with Tool coming to Guitar Hero World Tour.

We had a late offer for someone to babysit and my wife desperately wanted to get out of the house after being trapped there all week with the broken ankle. We went and saw Pineapple Express which was pretty funny. James Franco actually made the movie for me.

Their videos are amazing and well just look at the cd for 10 000 days. If everyone made their cd artwork like that I would never download cds.

  nothing but Tool stuff in it. I had no idea that Maynard had been molested as a child and that the 10,000 days title referred to the number of days that Maynard's mom suffered from stroke-related paralysis before passing away. It's a great publication with an interview with Alex Gray, the guy they've used for a bunch of their art.

  I was checking out the track list and it's pretty damn good. As a matter of fact, it has a No Doubt song in it and my wife loves No Doubt, so I could see her totally getting into it.
  The addition of Tool just made me look at the game whereas I wasn't even considering it before because I tended to not play these games. Feeling like I'm playing a Tool song puts me over the edge.
  Like I said, I didn't give two ounces of crap about this game until I heard that Tool would be in it. Then I looked at the track list and it looks awesome. Sold.

    spending that kind of money to play your favorite songs.
    However, won't those also eventually be featured on Rock Band's DLC lists as well? I cannot imagine that any band would go all NFL and give rights to their songs to one music game publisher exclusively.
    Also, glad to hear you got to see a show last night. I didn't get on till so late, that I would have probably missed you anyway. Pineapple Express is a hoot, and I would LOVE to hear SlmShawty's impressions of it. ha ha ha (So Slm, if you are lurking, pipe up! ...so to speak)

      and Rock Band could announce that Tool is also coming to their platform and if that's the case, then it's a winner for me. But as of right now, it seems like it's only coming to GHWT.

  Never really got into them, but I'm definitely coming around. Their music videos are very similar to floyd and you have to remember that in the 70s, floyd had a pretty heavy sound compared to what was out.

and I agree Papi it's worth a buy now for it. I haven't bought into one of these games ever. But I'm going to give it a go, not just for Tool but just think. If Tool signed up, who could be next? Disturbed?

  Yep STILL waiting for a Nightwish song. But one thing can you imagine if a Dimmu Bogir song got in. Not so for the guitar but the drums lol.
  ONT: Tool aren't my cup of coffee but they are creative in there music. It's nice too see more of the not-so mainstream artists get in.

twice in concert. Probably one of the best shows I have ever seen. For the guys thats never put two and two together. They are where I got my name from.

I'm a big Tool and APC fan. I have seen both at least 2 or 3 times. Maynard is one of the best band frontmen in a while.

The included Tool tracks are, universally, missed opportunities. But I've been waiting to sing Interpol's Obstacle 1 literally from day one. I understand that pricing on DLC is ever controversial and I don't want to give motherfuckers any ideas. Here, though, is truth: Obstacle 1 is a case where I would spend sixty dollars for a single song.
