Blank's take: This week's FFF started out a bit short-handed with seven players. RoBBins, Suns (replaced his son, Johann), and myself decided to make up the team of three going up against Razor, Degrees, Cracker Mattt, and HellFire. We made it a point on our short-handed team to communicate absolutely everything that we were doing, as in terms of our position, weapons grabbed, what we were covering, and enemy location. Our victories on Rooftops & Tyro Station were absolutely awesome because the feeling of great teamwork was especially sweet since we were flowing in unison. RoBBins was on his game with the Longshot and Torque Bow throughout the night. He got a game high of 17 kills with mostly the Torque with Suns & I on the team. Some of the most ridiculous sniper kills that I've ever seen from RoBBins were hip shots that had to be seen to be appreciated. Razor graciously hosted until 3:30 A.M. My shottie and I were in the zone which led me to keep stating, "Breaking Bs off!" The "Bs" was substituted for "Bitches" since Suns' boy, Johann, was in the room earlier during FFF. We wouldn't want to corrupt his young, impressionable mind now, would we? ;) The young buck was dishing out the pain and everyone let him know it. He even managed to pop off a few heads with the Longshot!
On Saturday night (Saturday Festival of Death), we don't know what Machete was on, but the guy was definitely in the zone. There was one particular round on Mausoleum where he had three straight Torque Bows in a row which capped out his 4-kill round. That led me to state to my teammates that when guys like Zos, Machete, rED, amato, and RoBBins get these power weapons in their hands, they can change the entire tide of the battle.
On another note: look guys and gals, we all know that Gears as it is, is broken. Frustration should NOT take away our enjoyment of the company in the room. When shenanigans like bugs and lag start pissing you off, step back for a second and think about the people in the room. The laughs, teasing, and stories relayed in the room should be the priority. I, too, am guilty of getting pissed off when things don't go as they should, but remember- it's just a game. Take a breath, shrug it off, and enjoy the camaraderie. We're not saving the world here. :)
Suns' take: There was some room juggling at my house, and my new setup has the computer on the same monitor as the 360. I was hoping someone else would toss something up but since they haven't yet, and since I can't sleep, I will drop a few lines.
Before I start however, let me just say that ANYONE is welcome to write the re-cap, because really, it is just a place for everyone else to write down their stories. Never feel you need to wait for someone else to write it up.
So, without further ado:
The 15 kill awards went to RoBBins and Machete who earned them several times each on Friday Night and Saturday night respectively. You guys really put on a show, and carried your team on several occasions. It reminds me of the scene in Speed Racer where the mom tells her son that she loves to watch him race, because watching him drive is like watching an artist paint.
Both nights, we had at least one full room going and, in addition to those mentioned above, I got to play with Hellfire, DEGREES, CiRCuiTz, JohnE, PureRage, Hypnos, RyDawgy (drunk as a skunk - sure glad I didn't have to wake up with his head - but still able to hold his own with a shottie), Kenai, Zoso, Grymm for a couple of games, JRBLEEZIE, and a bunch of others to whom I apologize in advance to for not being able to remember. It was great gaming with you guys! As always, shenanigans abounded, but even more so did the gibs and the laughter!
Saturday night started and ended on high notes for me, with a mini Super Slump in the middle that was the stuff of legend. Though I only got one friendly-fire kill in the Old Bones match, I think I really have to give myself the Hillary Award. I am afraid to weigh myself on the scale tomorrow because I had a whole BOX of doughnuts with sprinkles, all to myself. Mmmm...Tasty! Still, the night ended well for me as I started contributing again, and then even got top on my team on Fuel Depot last match of the night - and playing with Gearheads against Gearheads, that is sayin' something.
I just want to say a special thanks to all those who toss in the compliments and the encouragement. My personal experience is that, just as in sports, confidence plays a HUGE role in performance, and hearing people praise me and others helps me to loosen up and play better.
UPDATE: How could I forget! A special thanks to Al (Razor Hanzo) for the awesome hosting!
P.S. At one point in the FFF, The Blankman and I said simultaneously,"Broke-ass game". Frickin' hilarious!
