COGs might be the "bad guys" according to Gears 2 storyline

Sun Sep 07, 2008 at 05:08:55 PM EST

This is a very interesting read by GamesRadar.com.  It's an editiorial piece based on the "Beneath the Surface" mini-art book included in the Limited Edition version of Gears 2.  The press & gaming journalist were each given the art book as swag at E3.  Most of us know that GamesRadar has a lot of humor on their site, but give it a read because the author makes several interesting & valid arguments.  Could the COGs actually be the "bad guys" of Sera?  Cliff has always stated that the history of Sera does not take place on Earth and that everything is not what it appears to be.  Now that humanity on Sera is pushed to the brink of extinction, its totalitarian government & actions might place a lot of credence to this hypothesis.  Check it out: COGs are the bad guys?

  •  well IMO (none / 0)

if humans have the technology to travel to and colonize another planet, I'd think they'd at least have better technology in regards to weapons armour and vehicles. They wouldn't be losing the war. And the resonator would have worked the first time.

Still, cool idea though and he might be right?

it was a very entertaining take on the story.

Actually, I think I commented on the description that Mike Capps (I think it was) gave of the Stranded as the Meatflag.  I love how they would rather fight both the COG and the Locust than join forces with the COG!  WOO HOO!

This is just the final push I needed to start really enjoying playing as the Locust!

I wonder if in Gears 3, we will be able to play as one of the ever-respawning Locusts in HORDE!  Ha ha ha.

  •  My thoughts (none / 0)

I had this distinct feeling ever since i heard the queen talking at the end, why the hell did the locusts come out after so long, what does imlusion mean for them, why the hell was marcus in prison for to begin with, why will the locust not stop, will not stop as stated by the queen.

All these points always made me wonder why the hell am i fighting, and for what purpose.

Besides that the gameplay is awesome, whats the underlying theme here. Why is there so much destruction, why are we still on sera, why are we on sera to begin with.

Good article and great post from before, that diary hits it right on the head with the fascism

we're the bad guys, it doesn't mean we should neglect our nature. Our backs are against the wall, negotiations don't work.
