Fable 3 Announced - Let the revolution begin!

Wed Aug 19, 2009 at 09:38:02 AM EST

Few games have attempted to tackle leadership.  You having control of a massive group of people.  Fable 3 looks to do that as you will play the King of Albion.  Here are some of the details courtesy of 1UP:

"You'll take up the role of either the son or daughter of the Hero from Fable 2. The first half of the game will center around gaining support and starting a revolution against the current king. "Ultimately you overthrow that terrible tyrant who rules Albion, but to do that you have to make some promises," said Molyneux. But it's up to you to keep those promises about help the poor, lower taxes, and so on. An example of the decisions you'll have to make is your ability to do away with poverty by spending all of the money in your treasure room -- or you can just save it for yourself, but either way, there will be consequences."

More details here.

Upon gaining control of the kingdom players will, in typical Fable fashion, be able to influence the world around them.  This time, your sphere of influence is much, much larger.  As large as working to develop the entirety of your kingdom or let areas sink into poverty. Your money is yours to spend and how you do so effects your kingdom.

But you won't just be making large scale decisions.  Individual lives of some citizens will be in your hands.  The choice of what punishment a citizen receives will be up to you and if you are graceful enough, you can pardon them completely.

All of these choices will effect the world of Albion, which has already changed quite a bit from Fable 2:

"You'll see new marvels of the industrial age, devices that the people of Albion are amazed by," enthuses art lead John McCormack. "Half of Bowerstone will be turned into this mass of pistons and steam and clockwork - everything's moving."

I'm just scared to death for the citizens of Albion.  God help them if Boxin, Robbins or Grymm ever gain control of the kingdom...

I really, really enjoyed Fable 2.  Was very surprised by my reaction.  I played it from beginning to end.  Letting my son do bits and pieces along the way.

Really hope they develop the MP/Co-op version better.  As poor as it was in Fable 2, It was Very cool to connect with Blankman and SweetTea one time.  Blank even gave me a Ton of Gold!   "Party at Kenai's pad tonight ladies!!!"

Haven't read anything about Fable 3 yet...  Will do that now and comment later.

    •  Yes, me too (none / 0)

I LOVED Fable 2- Was a great game and nearly everything Peter said it would be.

The online opportunities were small but very cool -  I too hope they develop this more...

...Like maybe when you visit my game it's as if a king of a nearby region has arrived? Then my people either throw a parade in your honor or all stay in their homes in fear....very awesome possibilities...

Maybe when I come visit your game it is because the villagers are starting to rebel and revolt in your Kingdom.

AND...  They are now in fear because you hired a BadAss mercenary to come and kick some peasant ars...

"Sir Kenai is in da house!!"   Whack!!

That would be awesome.  Players could share resources with each other?!

For instance, imagine I made some crappy decisions regarding my economy and so you gave me a loan.  Then a few years later you need help defending against some foreign enemy and so I send my millitary to help you...

          More ideas more ideas!

  •  Actually in Fable 2 (none / 0)

I was a good guy until I played with Grymm, he brought me into the dark side of killing and plundering entire cities. I never finished with the good ending cause of him lol.

  •  Awesome, Sweetie. (none / 0)

Zos was talking about this last night and it made me interested to hear more.  (Never played the other Fables)

Maybe by #3 Molyneaux will have all pistons firing with Nitros to boot!

  •  Sounds really lame. (none / 0)

And this is coming from one who played the hell out of 1 and 2. It seems like they're moving to an RTS-stle game rather than an Action/Adventure like they were originally.

  •  The thing (none / 0)

I was most looking foreword to about Fable 2 was co-op. And IMO Lionhead completely messed that up. I love fable's art and the way it tells stories but the combat also seem way to simplistic for my taste. Hopefully they can make the co-op a little better then I would be more interested

  •  Can't wait for the third game. (none / 0)

I loved both 1 & 2. The DLC (which I didn't pick up) didn't get very favorable reviews based on what MS was charging. It's a shame that I never got the chance to co-op with a few Gearheads.
