Do NOT go to the Official Forums.

Fri Oct 10, 2008 at 07:05:51 PM EST

Hey guys, I know some of you are thinking this doesn't deserve a Diary, but I wanted to make sure you guys know about this. I haven't been on the official Gears forums in awhile, so I thought, "Hell, I'll check up and see what's on there." since there's been some nice new details posted over there. Well, when I arrive I click on Gears of War 2, and what sits before my eyes are Thread after Thread of spoilers. I tried just skipping over them, but these spoiler threads are everywhere. They even put some in the freaking title of the thread to. So I'm here just trying to warn you guys who don't want to spoil anything (haven't and WILL NOT watch any videos posted after the Enemy VidDoc) to go to the official forums. For you own safety...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!! I CAN POST DIARIES!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyways...

Hey guys, I was talking to rEDChief yesterday and he was saying how he wanted to be up to date with all we know about Gears 2 so far (I know, what a lazy-ass, right?) Anyways, since he couldn't post diaries and has been busy as of late, he wanted me to post one for him and whenever he gets the time, he'll check so he's not completely out of the loopdie-doop.

Thanks,
Grymm / rEDChief

New Horde Gameplay.

Sat Jul 19, 2008 at 04:27:01 PM EST

Here's a quick little 1min 20sec video of Horde Gameplay on the new Gridlock. Only thing is, it's an off-screen video, but if you hit "watch in high quality" makes up for that.

Go, download it now.

"It's friggin' freezing in here, Mr. Bigglesworth..."

Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 09:15:27 PM EST

That it is Dr. Evil... That. It. Is...

On a more serious note though, the point of this Diary is to present you guys an offer you can't refuse. Well, unless if you don't have Haylow 3 anymore. Whaddya get for it $20, $30??? Anyways, on Buhngee Day (Monday, July 7th) a BRAND SPANKIN' NUE map named Cold Storage is being released completely free of charge. Yes, a new map, free. I might dust the old copy off and give this new map a whirl. I believe it's supposed to be a remake of an old map, but I'll be honest, I didn't care enough to pay attention or find out, but hell, it's a free map. I'll take that with no hesitation. Also, Buhngee is deciding to drop the price of the Legendary Map Pack from 800MSP to 600MSP. Not a drastic change, but it's still Microsoft.

Blank, update that list.

Sat May 24, 2008 at 12:39:33 PM EST

Some of those rumors that were said to be in the next X360 UK magazine are indeed true. Here's a list of them, and the link to find them all:

-Ten person, 5v5 online multiplayer.

-Yes, Gears of War 2 will have a Halo-style matchmaking system.

-There will be respawning multiplayer modes, but the focus is still towards traditional non-respawn gaming.

Multiplayer game modes:

  • "Guardian" game mode: A remade version of Gears' Assassination game mode where the objective is still to kill the other team's leader, but players keep respawning as long as their leader is alive. Opponents' leader will be marked on the HUD to keep the game moving along.
  • "Wingman" game mode: You and a buddy team up, sharing a single character model in this five teams of two game mode.
  • "Meatflag" game mode: A CTF-style mode where the "flag" is actually an AI-controlled player who'll wander the map and attempt to kill anyone who gets near. To "capture" him, you'll have to first down, then escort him as a meatshield all the way back to your base, all while your opponents are trying to kill you and shoot at the "flag". Because, if shot at enough, your meatshield flag will break free, go berserk and deal out the pain. Respawning will be featured in this game mode as well as stats for the amount of kills the AI-controlled flag dished out

Multiplayer maps:
  • Around a dozen maps will be included on disc.
  • "Gridlock": A remake of the Gridlock we've all come to know and love, but taken over by vegetation, old age and now featuring a beautiful sun-setting glow.
  • "River": Symmetrical map featuring a house and a sniper tower separated by (you guessed it) a river.
  • "Security": A long, thin map with "verandas" on each side that are sealed off by red laser bars. In the center of the map is a button to deactivate all the security for roughly 20 seconds.

Fishing moves when an enemy is downed:
  • "X" button: Traditional curb-stomp.
  • "B" button: Melee attack that will be weapon specific. (Longshot sniper rifle will be used as a golf club of death.)
  • "Y" button: Flips your opponent over and let's you punch in their face ... UFC style.
  • "A" button: Use your enemy as a "meatshield" that limits your weapon choice to a pistol. And, yes, your meatshield can and will disintegrate in your arms after taking on enemy fire. If they don't get ripped apart, you can always dispense of your meatshield with a good old snap of the neck.

-Random weapon location respawns will be used, but only for certain weapons not including power weapons, pistols or grenades.

-All weapons have a variable amount of "stopping power" that'll slow down an opponent's running or diving abilities.

Weapons:

  • Players will have the option of spawning with the chainsaw-equipped Lancer or the newly modified Locust Hammerburst.
  • "Scorcher" weapon: A flamethrower that we're promised will produce some uber-realistic fire.
  • "Medusa" weapon: A new Locust pistol that is said to be extremely powerful, pumping out five to six rounds per shot downing enemies in a few shots. Said to be the perfect compliment to a meatshielder.
  • "Hammerburst" weapon: Changed a bit, now requiring players to pump the trigger as fast as possible (think Halo 3's Carbine). Though, recoil will increase the faster it's fired.

Grenades:
  • Can be stuck to people, walls, the floor and any other surface to be used as a makeshift proximity mine.
  • As before, players will spawn with one smoke grenade.
  • Smoke grenade: Now carries a "stun" effect that "ragdolls any player within their blast radius".
  • Poison gas grenade: Spews poison that will kill anyone who lingers in its poisonous cloud.

Chainsaw Duels:
  • Whoever does the quickest amount of "B" button tapping will be victorious.
  • Your teammates can help give you an edge in the duel by shooting the opponent which will give you the upper hand on the "B" button mini-game.
  • No duel will occur if a player is chainsawed from behind. Instead, the sexy "butt to head" chainsaw animation will kick in giving the attacker and instant kill.

-The cover system has been subtly reworked, where players' gun and body sit tighter to cover making it harder for your enemies to get an attacking angle.

-Bullet shields described as "metal bucklers" that can be carried as indestructible cover. The trade-off being that only a pistol can be wielded and movement is slowed dramatically. One benefit of the bullet shield is that it can be planted into the ground for mobile cover, though we're told enemies can kick it over if they get close enough.

-Once killed in a non-respawn game, players will enter a "dynamic battle-cam" that floats above the action.

-Also available (when dead) will be a Ghost Cam where players can view the action from the battlefield and take screenshots that can be uploaded online similar to Halo 3.

-Hammerhead Grunt Locust revealed and named as such because of his shark looking helmet.

-The GoW2 Collector's Edition may include a weathered looking Polaroid of Dom's wife, the same one seen at the beginning of the game.

-Development on Gears 2 is roughly at 65% complete.

-Don't count on Call of Duty 4 style XP or perks, Cliff says they will not be adding these types of character building elements to the Gears universe.

Gearheads Grifball Team??? Part Deux

Sun Apr 06, 2008 at 12:24:41 PM EST

Ok guys. Since there was a recent attraction to Grifball via Silva and after playing some last night with RoBBins and the oh so terrible Abe, it was brought up that we should actually follow through with joining the League. Well, after that was all talked through, I went to Grifball.com and if we are going to sign a Team up this is some of the info we need:

Preferred Match Day: Monday - Friday
Time Zone: Eastern - Central - Mountain - Pacific

Just fill in your respective response to each of the questions below and maybe we can get this GearHeads of War Grifball team rolling!
EDIT: Here's the link for the team as well: Gearheads of War.

And also, here's the new logo I just concocted.

WHAT?!?!?!?! BBQ...

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 03:21:00 PM EST

Ok, well I was just on X360Fanboy.com and I was watching a clip of a comparison of the Purchase-able weapons against the free weapons and I noticed something a bit odd in the video... Just watch from 3:30 - 3:40

And, also this gives more detail to the Weapons than what I was saying in the Podcast to those that listened.

"I Claim Shenanigans!" (Gearheads Podcast)

Sun Mar 23, 2008 at 01:28:01 PM EST

So, after chatting it up a bit yesterday in the early mornings with Papi, Sweety, and Circuitz, we've decided to aptly name our Podcast series "I Claim Shenanigans!" And another thing I wanted to say was I'm hoping we can get our first Episode done later today. Now, I'll be busy from 2pm-unknown, but in the Evening I KNOW I'll be available. Machete, Robbins, Sweety, post below and let me know if you can make it, and any other Gearheads that would like to join us.

Oh, and HAPPY EASTER GEARHEADS!

Gearheads Podcast Dream Finally a Reality???

Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 02:05:44 AM EST

Chello fellow Gearheads. I was just surfin' the webburnet and I've stumbled upon a site called TalkShoe. Now, I don't know much about it now, but it seems to be something similar to Skype. Now, if you don't know what Skype is, it's essentially a Voice Chat messenger-type thing. And whilst lurking this TalkShoe site, I found out that you can make your own 'Conference Call.' And there's the ability to Record you call as well. Again, I don't know much about this site just yet, but it seems that if a group of Gearheads get together in a 'Conference' we could probably Record everyone, even including the person that set up the whole get-together. Now, if you guys would want to test this out so we could finally get this dead Horse to arise, follow the link below, make a Profile, and post your Info below. The only thing I think that is required would be a USB Mic, and possibly Skype, which can be found below as well. And you can actually choose to do a "Live Call" which is like a Live Stream-sorta thing, so if we actually DO this then we could probably do a Live Podcast.

http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/main.jsp?pushNav=1&cmd=home

http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/

Requirements:
-USB Mic (easiest/least hassle)
-An Account to be able to Voice Chat (text works with or without an account)
-TalkShoe PRO Software (free download at site) or TalkShoe Internet Browser Chat open.
-Find the Podcast
And that's it!

Con2 MP Pre-Review.

Wed Mar 19, 2008 at 07:51:13 PM EST

Now, I wouldn't call this my actual 'Review,' but I'm just gonna fill everyone in on the Basics of MP and just the game in General. On to MP first:

Game Modes
-Deathmatch: Obviously Every-Man-For-Themself. You can get a game of a max of 8 players and each player is allowed to change their in-game Model in the Pre-Game lobby, that's it. You would be able to select your weapon, however, you go find them in whichever map you play at. As plain and simple as that.

-Team Deathmatch: Same exact thing as above, just with an SUV [SCU] Team and an Influenced Team.

-Bum Rush: Ugh, my least fayvorit... But the concept of this Gametype is 2 SUV's against 6 Influenced (or Bums as I call 'em). That's only the case however whenever you make it a full game. It can also range from 2-SUV against 2-Influenced, and also 2-SUV vs 4-Influenced, but no matter what, whenever the game's full, you can only have 1 or 2 SUV's at once. Anyway, onto the Gametype. The point of this game is another simple one; the SUV's need to survive whatever the Time Limit is set for. How do they do that? Well, at first, the SUV's have guns, while the Bums have either a Brick, Pipe, and some others that can't come to mind now. As for the SUV's the only guns I've seen them use is an Assault Rifle. And after that ammo is used up, SUV's have to run around and scavenge for Weapons to fight the Bum Horde back for the remaining time. Now here is my pet-peave with this gametype - the SUV's are SUPER strong. While the Bums are... you know... normal. And all I've really experienced with that gametype was the SUV's camping in a corner, one-shotting each and every one of the 6 Bums and then grabbing a Shovel and one-hitting each and every one of us. I still have yet to be on the SUV's team for a Bum Rush game, but I'm sure once I am, I'll give back some of the frustrations that I've had to go through. The SUV's only have one life while the Bums have an infinite number of lives.

-Crime Scene: And now for my most fayv gametype that what MAKES MP for this game. Ok, the concept for this game is theirs two teams [SUV / Influ]. The SUV's are on the 'Attacking' side while the Influ are on 'Defense.' Now the point of this is the SUV's need to use their Spectrometer to find the Location of two 'coolers.' What's inside the coolers? Heads. "Human" Heads. And if you get a decent amount through the SP, you'll recognize the Heads ;) Anyways, while the SUV's are trying to use their Spectrometers to 'SCAN' the Evidence in the Coolers, the Influ need to place the Coolers wherever they can and Defend them with their life. Oh yea, forgot to mention this, everyone has one life. So once you're Dead, you done for the Round. Now, in this gametype, in the Pre-Game Lobby the SUV's can choose between a Pistol, with 18 Rounds, or a Shotgun, with 8 Shells (but you only have 4 Shells in the gun at one time so you get one reload out of it), while the Influ can choose between a Drive Shaft, Brick, Molotov Cocktail, Sledgehammer, or an Emitter. If you don't know what the Emitter used for, you can stick it to a wall to Jam the SUV's Spectrometers, and the only way it stops is when the SUV's find it and destroy it by whacking it or throwing something at it. The great thing about this gametype is that it's a blast no matter which team you're on. I prefer the Influ only because you literally can scare the Bajeebus out of people by staying in the shadows near your Cooler. For example, on the map Underground, I was on the Influ and we had one Cooler in the corner of this big room. Thing is though, the room only had light in the center while it was pitch black on all the corners. So my teammates and myself waited in the corners and there was a Single SUV that came into the room. Next thing you know, three Influ, one was a Pig, another a Clown, and a guy in a Skull Mask, all Sprint at the guy at once and simultaneously smack him with their respective weapons. It was THEE funniest thing I've seen in that game yet. And what makes it better, we did it to two other SUV's in the same Round. Thing is though, if you don't have an organized team, you'll fall almost instantly. This gametype is about teamwork, not Ramboism.

-MP Models:
--SUV's

  1. SWAT member with just the Face Cover that covers everything but the eyes.
  2. A Jason (Friday the 13th) rip-off with a Metal Ski Mask.
  3. Gas Mask (my fayve)
  4. Standard SWAT member (helmet, Goggles, and face cover)
--Influenced
  1. "Mr. Goggler" A character with black spiked hair with Goggles and a 'ninja-like' covering over the mouth and nose.
  2. "Little Miss Piggy" A simple Pig Mask, but the best to see Sprint at you from the Darkness... Robbins ;)
  3. Skull Mask
  4. Clown Mask

For whoever actually READS all of that, I thank you and hope that this Epic Novel actually helps people who don't have the game out on what they want to know about Con2's MP.
