Thumb receives 51 months...but...
Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 10:07:44 AM EST
Hello everyone. As most of you know I have been going through a rough time in my life and have to pay my dues for some things I have done. My sentencing was yesterday and I received a 51 month prison sentence to be served in the lowest security possible facility. But I will get to that in a second.
Originally the sentence is 51 months, that is just over 4 years. However, I only have to serve 85% of it. That brings in down to 42 months. On top of that I will be released on supervised release for the last 12 of the 42 months. That brings it down to 30 months. Now here is the kicker. My sister worked in the BOP(Bureau of Prisons) for 6 years and knows the warden where I will serve my sentence. She talked to her and got me a deal that if I agree to teach two classes(Accounting and Data Processing) at the camp that I will be going to that they will knock off another 12 months of my sentence. That brings it down to 18 months.
Not bad considering the circumstances. The camp I will go to is actually pretty nice. I was impressed. If it werent for public outcry about 3 years ago it would still have a bowling alley and movie theater for the inmates. I almost shit myself when I read about that. But anyway I already payed for a TV to be put in my room and they allow you to have a NES or SEGA master system(with only nonviolent games of course). But still...that is pretty good. It cost $200 though and I dont get to keep it or get my money back when I am done. But well worth it for some nestalgic side scrolling platform gameplay while under lock and key. I still have more research to do on it and what to expect but as I said before. This is not nearly as bad I thought it was going to be. I just know I am going to miss putting my daughter to bed every night.
Thanks for all the support Gearheads.
I am out now on voluntary surrender until September as of now so hopefully I can get my box fixed and frag away with some of you before I go.
Peace!
Update on my situation
Thu Apr 24, 2008 at 04:59:14 PM EST
First of all I would like to thank you all for your thoughts. And when I say all, I mean ALL. Good and the bad. I understand there would be some animosity towards my actions. I dont expect everyone to understand why I did what I did. To be honest, I am not quite sure how I did what I did. I have been recently diagnosed as Bipolar. Apparently I have a chemical imbalance that can sometimes take place at times of high stress. I am in the early stages of the diagnoses right now so I dont know where this is all going. I have pleaded guilty and will know in about a month or more what to expect for a sentence. I am pretty sure it will be between 1 and 3 years. Possibly less. I am attending Gamblers Anonymous due to a huge gambling problem and it is working thank God. I havent had an urge to gamble ever since I have started to attend meetings. My addiction started with small 2-10 limit hold em games and progressed upwards of 100-300 games. So that coupled with severe financial troubles fuels a fire I wish upon no one. My wife suffered a stroke when she was 20. A $200,000.00 dollar doctor bill isnt an easy fix. Nor is a $40,000.00 high risk pregnancy. With all of these things and more there is simply no excuse for these actions. I am not looking for sympathy and am trying to find honesty. I have done quite a bit of soul searching throughout this whole thing and have been trying to find good in this. I am starting to see that things happen for a reason and this is no exception. My wife was finally able to get her RN degree with being home with our daughter. This will enable her to provide for her while I am gone. We plan to stay together through this ordeal and I believe her. She has never given me a reason not to. She and my daughter will stay with my parents while I am away. This will enable her to save a lot of money. So as I said things happen for a reason. I will let everyone know what the sentence is when I find out. Until then take care of the ones you love and let them know it every chance you get.
One thing to Degree of Freedom or what ever your name was. I understand your comment you made in the previous thread. But please understand I am not looking for your sympathy, nor your support. I am searching myself for honesty and guilt. Telling the truth and knowing I was wrong for scaring two innocent people regardless of weather I was unarmed or not is something I need to repent for. But it is something myself and God will deal with. Not you. I dont expect anyone on this site who has never gamed with me to even come close to feel bad for me and thats not what I want. So know that I thank you for your comment but it holds no wieght with me. I am done with negativity and am trying to repent and find positives to feed off of through these hard times.
Thank you all,
Jake "Thumb"
Keep running a great site Papi and kiss you little girl tonight and tell her you love her.
thumb goes to prison
Fri Apr 11, 2008 at 06:25:38 PM EST
Hey guys long time. Well there is no easy way to say this. I am going to prison. I don't yet know for how's long but it will most likely be for about two years or so. Give or take. My real name is Jacob Edwards. I live in Minnesota and robbed two banks in the twin cities. I am not proud of what I have done and will pay for it accordingly. Many things lead up to these horrible events. I have been making amends with lots of people and have found that I have hurt many people. I write this diary to let you all know that no matter how bad things get they can always be worse. Take care of each other and await the return of the thumb in due time. Until then; god speed to you all. Yours very truly. Thumb. Learn from others mistakes and lead by example.

I was just noticing that a lot of people have been using the mygamercard.net feature for their sigs.
It would be a Really(Doe) Sweet(Tea) feature on the meet the gearheads page. You could see your fellow Gearhead's gamerscore and what every one is playing.
Just a thought. I know it would take a little time but it would be incredibly easy to do.
Thanks for your time.
Gearheads say, "BANHAMMER TIME"
Thu Oct 25, 2007 at 12:12:37 PM EST
Two words...Swag Pack...or is it Fyro?
Either way, I am going to abandon the "give him a chance" crowd and move over to the "somebody shut this kid up" crowd.
So he changed his name...so he toned his posts/replies down...yeah, for about two frickin days.
This site is supposed to support diversity and bring gamers together in a friendly community. Instead it is being used as an antagonistic tool that is used against the very community that it has brought together.
I dont mind fanboism(I am a huge supporter of MS) and I for some reason have a deep annoyance with Sony. But I dont bash/insult someone that owns a PS3 or doesnt think the 360 has better games, ect.
Did I make fun of Papi when he bought his PS3? No. I simply told him to have fun with his JRPG machine and gave him the big ";)" to let him know I was kidding around.
I personally love Halo 3 and think it is one of the best games I have played. But when someone comes along and says that they dont like it that much I let them say it and dont bash them because it is their opinion and I have no right belittling someone for speaking their mind.
As for CoD4, I now dislike Swag/Fyro so much that I will probably never let this game into the welcoming dvd tray of my 360 as long as it lives.
Why? Because, everytime it touches the engineering marvel that is my Xbox 360 I will feel as though I am tainting a system worthy of much more.
I am here to call for the Banhammer. Make him go away. I do not want to see another Gearhead insulted. Another opinion mad fun of. We are here to game together, not irritate each other.
Papi/Sweet/Zos
I urge you to do what you need to do to purge this peril from our clandestine home that is Gearheads of War.
Where the Gearheads work
Wed Oct 24, 2007 at 09:31:43 AM EST
So due to Texas' latest post
http://www.gearheadsofwar.com/story/2007/10/23/20445/860 involving the team of Surgeons fragging away on Halo 3, it got me wondering what all the Gearheads do.
So, you can post a quick "Forum Name" - "Job Title" if you want to.
I think it would be interesting to know what everyone does for a living.
You can post a short description if you'd like as well.
I look forward to seeing my fellow Gearhead's places of work.
I'll go first...
Lone Wolves
Mon Oct 15, 2007 at 12:03:36 PM EST
So I've played quite a bit of Lone Wolves lately as that is the only way to get a bunch of the achievements in the game. And, I have noticed that it is significantly easier to level up in this playlist than it was in Halo 2.
Playing Lone Wolves last night, I went from a level 20 to a level 30 in about 45 minutes to an hour.
Does anyone else think that this FFA playlist is much easier than Rumble Pit was on Halo 2? Or is it just me?
I have seen more level 40+'s in Halo 3 than I EVER did in Halo 2.
I also have an issue with boosting for achievements in this playlist. I dont really care too much as it will weed itself out the higher your level goes but hearing it every match is getting old.
"Hey wanna do an achievement match?" I am finally to the point now that when I hear that, I just say, "Sure. Everyone meet in the middle!" I wait for averyone to gather and then I throw a couple grenades and spray them down with AR fire. They are all SO pissed after the match...LOL...good humor.
Anyone's thoughts?
Halo 3 DLC
Fri Oct 12, 2007 at 01:59:58 PM EST
So I have read all over the net that armor and maps will undoubtingly be available via DLC. But, what I havent heard is a price tag.
Do you think this DLC will be available free or will we have to pay(MS Points) to obtain that which we desire?
History shows us that MS is in love with XBLMarketplace. Multiple developers(Epic, Midway, ect.) have wanted their DLC to be free for all users and in almost every case MS has put their foot down and said, "NO WAY". So, I think we can most likely expect to pay for what we want.
With that said, what is a fair price for maps and armor? Are they going to cost us 800-1600 MS Points? Will they keep it cheap and go for under 800?
I'm curious as to what you Gearheads think is fair or of any other DLC that might be sweet to see. I could totally see some sweet updates(Free) to the forge mode. New objects, weapons, vehicles...the thought of all of this just gets me excited to see what Bungie can bring us via DLC.
Halo online armor viewer

From Hushed Casket
"Would you like to play with combinations of armor and colors even when not on your Xbox 360? Thanks to someone's clever programming that references the armor preview feature at Bungie.net, now you can. Select any type of armor and any set of colors and it will give you a preview image of what the combination will look like. Two even cooler features are the ability to look up any XBL gamertag and see his armor combination in use right now, and the program's ability to tell you what you must do to unlock each piece of armor selected. The above picture is a Spartan decked out in the mysterious "Recon" armor."

Pretty cool feature I thought.
Halo Books
Tue Oct 09, 2007 at 10:27:50 AM EST
Hey guys just a quick question. does anyone know where I can go to read the Halo books online for free or at least a good break down of them? I am interested in reading them but I really dont want to pay for them. I know there are tons of legal resources to read free ebooks but I havent been able to find one with any Halo books.
I read the wiki's on all of them but was hoping to find something more in depth somewhere for free.
Thanks for any help you can give guys.
Halo 3 in CHURCHES everywhere!
Mon Oct 08, 2007 at 04:37:26 PM EST
Okay I heard about this on the radio and did a little digging. It is %100 legit. I cant say much that isnt in this article but I think it is sweet.
Here is the article
http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/printedition/2007/10/07/halo1007.html
But with Halo's biblical feel this is so ironic that it is almost not even funny. Halo is touching more than the millions of gamers who've bought it...its touching the faith of thousands more.
Some quotes...
"First the percussive sounds of sniper fire and the thrill of the kill. Then the gospel of peace."
"leaders at churches and youth centers across Protestant denominations, including evangelical churches that have cautioned against violent entertainment, from holding heavily attended "Halo" nights and stocking their centers with multiple game consoles so dozens of teenagers can flock around big-screen televisions and shoot it out."
"Church leaders who support "Halo" --- despite its "thou shalt kill" credo --- say it has become crucial to evangelistic efforts to reach their most elusive audience, boys and young men, on their home turf."
"Baptist denomination takes a more cautious approach. The organization recently sent e-mail messages to 50,000 young people about how to share their faith using "Halo 3." Among the tips: Use the game's themes as the basis for a discussion about good and evil."
Now, I'm not even religous but this is brilliant from a religon standpoint.
Your thoughts?
