Guitar Hero IV Setlist: Fake or Fo Real?

Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 01:40:56 AM EST

So the same guy who leaked the correct info on the GH3 setlist before it came out has come up with something interesting...

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=944201&topic=44444231

That's what he claims is the GHIV setlist.  I'm calling bullshit, though.  It's WAY too good to be true.  It's perfect, really.  There's too many A+ songs on there to name.  If it's true, I'm definitely taking it over Rock Band 2, but it just can't be.  Take a gander, but it'll probably just get your hopes up before we find out the real setlist.  A girl can dream, though, right?

A Bit of a Scare

Fri Jun 13, 2008 at 03:58:00 AM EST

So I had my grad/b-day party the other day, and I had Rock Band set up for people who wanted to play.  After a few hours of mingling with friends, parents, and people I'd never seen before, I went downstairs to discover 3 red flashing rings around my Xbox.  A bit surprised, but not really that mad, I went over and turned off my Xbox.  I proceeded to turn it on after a few minutes, and...it worked.  It's been fine since then (Wednesday).

I've had the 3 rings once before, and I'm positive it was 3 rings this time also (not 4 or 2 or 7 or anything), so I was pretty confused by this.  Has this happened to anyone else, getting the 3 rings only to be fixed by simply turning off your Xbox?  (I won't be able to respond to anyone's answers, or make it to FFF, until Saturday though because I'm going camping with some friends, but I'll maybe be online Saturday night if anyone's interested).

Rock Band Drum Set Help

Sat Feb 09, 2008 at 09:53:06 PM EST

So I've got one song left to beat on Expert drums for Rock Band.  It's Run to the Hills, and after miserably failing my first couple of tries, I go into practice mode.  I notice that I'm missing a lot of my bass drum notes, so I try just focusing on that.  Still I seem to be having difficulty with it, so I go to pick it up and do it with my hands to make sure it's alright.  Well, when I picked it up, I noticed something...the pedal was completely broken off of its stand.

I've heard this happening to a lot of people, so I was just wondering if any of you guys could help me with this question: what do I have to do to replace my drums?  I also have a fairly faulty red pad, so I definitely need a new kit.  If anyone knows how I go about obtaining a new set, please let me know, your help is greatly appreciated.

Goldeneye for XBLA Almost Came....Almost

Sat Jan 12, 2008 at 12:41:43 PM EST

So I guess Goldeneye for XBLA was going to be a reality in a few months, but Rare cancelled it I guess because of money issues.  It would have had fewer characters than the N64 version of the game, but everything else would have been the same, plus it would have had XBL multiplayer.  Too bad.

My box is back!

Mon Oct 22, 2007 at 09:31:26 PM EST

So I just received my Xbox today courtesy of UPS, and I was just thinking that it was pretty done reasonably quickly/painlessly.  I sent it in on (I think) September 24th (Monday), and it is now October 22nd (Monday).  So it took around 4 weeks.  I'm pretty happy about that.  Also, customer service was really helpful and easy to talk to, so this whole experience went pretty smoothly.  Unfortunately I played a lot of Half-Life on my neighbor's Xbox, so now those saved games won't transfer over.  I haven't used it, and I haven't checked to see if it's the same one or a new Premium one with HDMI, but I'll tell you when I find out.  Very busy this week, though, so I meant not be on for a few more days.

I give Microsoft a 10 out of 10 for their helpful and painless service.  :)

Soldier of Fortune: Payback

Tue Oct 09, 2007 at 08:24:29 PM EST

Booya.  Coming out on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, this game makes Gears of War look like Viva Pinata.  I'm pretty excited about this.  They just recently came out and announced the game, and it's coming out in November!  They kept it well-hidden from the press.  Anyone else going to be picking this one up?  O, and check out the Gamevideos 'Teaser' trailer, it's awesome.

Jericho demo this Thursday!!!

Tue Sep 25, 2007 at 04:48:49 PM EST

WOOOHOOOO!  I can't wait for this.  Granted I don't even have an Xbox, but I'll get my neighbor to download it, and I'm sure we'll spend a good amount of time on that.  I know you guys all love Halo 3, but any of you guys at all interested by this?

RRoD

Wed Sep 19, 2007 at 11:06:53 PM EST

Faaaaantastic.
So I know there's been a million or so diaries with the RRoD, but now that I have it, I need to hear all that advice again.  I'm not going to attempt the blanket trick non-sense, so you can just throw that notion right out of your head.  As for what happened...was playing Gears with buds, screen suddenly went black, turned off Xbox, turned on (with controller), 3 flashing red lights.  Turned off, turned on, same thing.  I then called my friend, asked him for advice, he said remove HD, blow on it, put it back in.  Did that, screen would freeze as that ball with the "X" rolls up on screen.  No more red lights, but a frozen screen.  Then I tried starting it without my HD in my Xbox, and the same thing happened.
So, what should I do?  I'm not going to buy another Xbox, so I would really appreciate any help you could give me.  There's some kind of big games coming around the corner, and it would be quite the shame to miss the first few weeks of them...

Worst Online Experience Ever

Mon Sep 03, 2007 at 06:43:19 PM EST

Call of Duty 4 has provided me with the worst online experience I could have ever imagined.  Who in the fuck set this beta up?  They must be the absolute dumbest people on the planet.  I know some of it has to do with people getting it illegally, but would they not think that would happen?  It's a really obvious way around it, how could they not have prepared for that?  I started my beta up today at 11:30 in the morning.  I was fed up at 5:30.  In that SIX HOUR PERIOD, I played FIVE GAMES.  I don't remember what the time limit is on games, but it can't be more than 20 minutes (though they lasted usually about 10 minutes).  I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they all took 20 minutes to complete.  In SIX HOURS, I should be able to play 18 games, not 5.  I'll say the time between games takes a litte time off, so maybe around 15.  BUT NOT 5.  I would sit in lobbies for 30 minutes just to have 2 or 3 people join and then leave.  I tried joining games of people on my friend's list and recent player's list, but it worked only twice for people on my friend's list (Texas and Captain), and twice for people on my recent player's list.  I got the message "This server is full" or "The host is not responding" at least 50 times, and that's not an exaggeration.  I think  based on the fact that this was the worst experience I've ever had on Live or on the internet, I'm probably not going to buy Call of Duty 4.  If they put me through that much fucking waiting and waiting and waiting, they don't deserve my money (I know my $60 means nothing to them, but still).  Is it running buttery smooth for other people?  From lots of other people I came across it sounds like it's shitty for them, too.

Timeshift Demo

Thu Aug 30, 2007 at 11:43:33 PM EST

So I just got home, looked online, and found out that a Timeshift demo is up.  Anybody play it yet?  From a few comments I've read, it sounds like it's unexpectedly pretty sweet.  So what are your impressions of it?

Medal of Honor: Airborne

Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 12:11:32 AM EST

Wow.  I just played the demo, and I was blown away.  First off, the graphics are stunning.  Not much else to say about that.  Second, the whole Airborne element adds soooo much to the game, I couldn't believe it.  The demo makes you take out 3 AA guns, and you choose in which order.  The playing field is relatively large, and it makes for a fairly non-linear experience.  Because you're parachuting in, you choose where to land.  Green smoke is where your teammates are going to land, as it marks a safe LZ.  Touch down there, and you've got teammates and time on your side.

But of course, you're not going to just take the most obvious route.  If you so desire, you can land right next to one of the AA guns.  You'll be in a hot spot, and you'll probably die (the game is pretty tough even at normal), but the option is there if you want to go balls-to-the-wall.  And then there's the sniper route.  You can choose to land on an otherwise inaccessible rooftop to pick off the enemies below.  Basically, you can choose where to go based on your style of play, which is also helped by your ability to choose your loadout before the mission.  In the demo, the options are fairly limited (the choice 1 primary gun in a selection of 3 and 1 secondary in a selection of 3 with a Colt .45 as your sidearm), but it gets the job done.

Then there's the arcadey elements.  While at times you feel really absorbed and into the war (the guns feel, sound, and look phenomenal), there are elements in the game that make it fresh and fun.  You can upgrade your weapons by getting enough kills with each one.  Kill enough enemies with your Thompson, it doesn't kick like a mule any more.  Kill enough with your M1 Garand, you're that much more accurate with it.  I haven't played another MoH game, so these could be something they put in every time, but I know that in this game they were pretty cool and fun.

The feel of the game is awesome.  The controls are different from most other games, and they definitely take some time to get used to, but in the end, they work.  Also, the lean ability is used in this game better than any other game I've played that allows you to lean.  It feels great.

So those are my impressions of the Medal of Honor: Airborne demo.  I know lots of you guys are sick of WWII shooters, but I personally can not get enough.  I say there are too few (I think the only WWII shooter I've actually played is CoD2 and 3, so that may be why I'm not sick of them yet).  I highly recommend that you download the demo.  Great graphics, fresh gameplay (even if it is WWII), and a realistic yet fun feel make this a pretty solid demo.  The full game comes out September 4th, and I know there's lots of shit going on around that time (Stranglehold and soon to be that record-breaking game), but I might have to try and make room for MoH:A.  Give it a try.
